There was a scene I got distracted during in Tabor. maybe someone could fill me in
Clive is looking at a tapestry in Jote's hideout and asking about it. It started playing a weird fucked up version of the FF1 world map theme, so I was too busy paying attention to that and not the dialogue. But it seemed to say that Ultima created the Eikons? What was said in that scene?

I like Cid a lot too, I just don't see a DLC dedicated to him. FFXVI's combat is built around the Eikon abilities. Switching between them, doing different combos, and going for the highest damage possible during Stagger phases. Playing as a character who only has Ramuh's abilities for an entire DLC doesn't seem like it would fit that mold. If we're talking DLC potential, Leviathan the Lost brings the most to the table. Also I do feel like there are ways to bring us more Cid without us having to play as him.
I don't know if you ever played FF XV's DLC, but if you did, think about how they went in a different direction with the rest of the gang. There's nothing stopping them from doing something similar in a DLC featuring Cid, for instance.

If they have more than 1 DLC planned, then maybe. But if they only plan on 1 DLC, I just don't see them doing a one off adventure with Cid instead of a DLC with Leviathan. Just my take.

A prequel dlc with 50-50 split between Cid and Joshua leading up to the beginning of the main story would be awesome. Cid was an amazing character. Would be nice to see more of that girl Jote(?). She’s so devoted and it seems like he really has to rely on her. Game would probably have to be extremely successful to warrant something like that.

Ok, Platinum is mine.
Regarding the ending:

Right after Jill kinda smiles when she sees the sun rise and before the credits, when it fades to black, you can hear Clive saying: "And thus... did our journey end".
If he was dead, how did he say it? Or maybe I am just overthinking it.

Do we know when DLC will arrive? This game takes up 90 gb, so I would delete it for now.

You're not overthinking it.

Clive narrates the beginning and end of the game -> Clive gets the quill from Harpocretes to chronicle his journey -> Titles the book the words he used to deliver the death blow to Ultima -> Uses the Outlaw Symbol on the book -> Platinum Trophy is called The Chronicler and uses the narrator's (Clive's) closing words as it's subtext "And thus did our Journey End" -> Circle back to point 1.

Oh, about the ending...
I think plenty of people is overthinking it. There's enough info to conclude that Clive did die, we know the curse advances, Torgal's reaction is bad, Jill's reaction is bad, and the music also sets the tone in that same direction. Some people argue that Cid wasn't fully petrified, but there was a secondary mission right after Northreach where we actually saw a female bearer that was fully petrified simply because she had been forced to use magic too often.

The ending is definitely open to interpretation. Personally I take it at face value, because I feel it makes the most sense. Clive was WILLING to give his life up, ever from the start he was tormenting himself about losing Joshua, and if the book was written by Joshua, Clive finally managed to save him (rather than seeing him die twice). And although his story ended, Clive changed the world.

But, as I said, the ending is vague enough to reach pretty much any conclusion, and, as long as the devs don't clarify it, you can make arguments in either direction. There's no way to get a definite answer with the info we're presented in the ending, so we're free to draw our own conclusions.

Oh, as for DLC, nothing is official yet, so it'll likely be months before it arrives, assuming they actually develop something

Well the director of this game is the director of The Last Remnant, which is a game I hated. So no surprise there. There’s MMO + The Last Remnant stink all over this game

finished it and i see this may be why the story transitions consisted of too much jank, plot convenience/armor. the kind of writing you see in poor movies.

until the garuda eikon fight = great
until the 2nd time skip = over bearing and too flat
after the 2nd time skip = still over bearing, disappointed the world doesn't open up likr previous FF
last 25% = pretty good wrap up quests

i do like how your companion stories are handled via side quests spread over the plot developing

Bruh, the sidequest where you go to deliver some plant seeds to Sir Wade on Eastpool...

Martha shows up to give a rally speech...and the npc besides her hands over a frying pan to her to emphasize the moment. Not even a fucking sword.

Fucking hell. I’m just so fucking bored with this game. I know a ton of cool shit is going to happen, but man, having to slog through the shit just to get there is becoming too much. I might not be able to finish this.
Yeah, I haven't played for a few days. Hopefully I can get back into it this weekend. I really don't want this to be one of those games I just drift away from, I'd like to see how it all ends up.

I think I’m gonna return it to GameFly and buy a used deep price cut down the road. Or wait and see if it hits the PS+ catalog.

Finally beat it. All side quests and hunts done.

What a masterpiece. Absolutely loved the cast, story, music, combat and how the world felt so incredibly rich. Has some warts, but doesn’t take away from all the greatness this title achieves. Best final fantasy since the PS1 era.

Loved spending the last 60+ hours coming back to this game slowly over the course of a month. Will certainly miss that cozy feel and gameplay loop. Current GOTY and will be hard to top.

Thank you, based Yoshi-P

I also finished it last night, after 50 something hours. All side quests and hunts completed.

It had its ups and downs, but I’ll always look back fondly on my time with this game. The shitty mid game side quests and filler are overshadowed by what are truly some of the greatest gaming moments I have experienced in years.

The OST absolutely fucking slaps, the cast of characters is outstanding, and the combat felt awesome, especially when I unlocked all the abilities. Those 3 things are most important to me in a game, and can overcome other flaws.

Also my current GOTY. Coming from someone who was never really into Final Fantasy.

I mailed my GameFly copy back this morning, and will get Remnant 2 as its replacement.

I’m glad most of you like it. I guess I was just hoping it would still become an RPG at some point. I’ll pick it back up once it’s in PS+ in a year or two.

You can do it. It's...kind of worth it?

Oh man, the TITAN fight is ridiculously good. I mean it's fucking jaw dropping. What a spectacle it was, the music pumped me up like an adrenaline rush. The gameplay, the scale of the battle. It's something not to be missed because it's something that has never been done in games.
Devs were not kidding about the true power of PS5. It really gives you the feeling of next gen which we craved about.
Done it so well that you actually feel like you're an Eikon, not playing one.

Yoshi-P and the whole team should take a bow.

lol That's good you enjoyed it so much. Didn't care for the second phase song or the fact that it dragged to a third phase.
The bahamut fight was the only one where the spectacle, the music, and the gameplay all came together.

I just finished this game (with all quests, chronoliths, notorious marks, etc, done) at 120 hours (I took my sweet time). Straight up, this is my 2nd most favourite Final Fantasy game (after IX and not counting XIV) ever.

The combat is superb and very diverse. Accessible, yet deep enough to never become boring (I would practice and try stuff in the hall of virtue for hours).

The story is very engaging and so well told. I remember the names of all the characters, because they all had weight in the world. They all mattered and did something important to the plot. And oh, the twists. Those twists. I'm glad I avoided leaks and let's plays of this game.

The music... The music... I was struck by it since the trailers. But in game, they hit so hard. So well timed. I will play the OST on repeat once it's out in Spotify.

The sidequests, although simple and superficial in the beginning, they build upon the sequels and grow in complexity and consequences to the world. Even sidequests about some apples or some bread comeback to hit you in the feels later in the game.

I will stop before I write a bigger wall of text. I just want to say, if this is the new direction of the Final Fantasy franchise from now on, I would be a very happy FF fan. I recommend everyone to play it, to take their time with it and savour every moment.

Also: DLC, please.

japanese tv short documentary with Naoki Yoshida

apparently he is really dissapointed with FF16 negative abusive comment that not related with game content online.

"I liked the game a lot, but I don't like this aspect of the game because reasons". - He's completely fine and actually welcomes such criticism.
But if your comment to any of his games are nothing but
"Fuck you you piece of shit for creating such a shitty game that wastes my time, don't make FF anymore, quit and get out of my sight" - ypes of comment, then it's no wonder YoshiP is disheartened.

previously he addressed of abusive remark toward developers issue with FF14:

"After 11 years of journey with players up to this point it does make me feel that the language used ended up a little overboard there,"

"I mean, I can take it, even though it doesn't make it less bad, but staff members will feel really down after getting those words when they gave their absolute best into trying to create something where everyone can enjoy, and this may end up making them no longer create things that are fun from there on.

"So I have only one request to [all] players out there - please imagine that you're speaking face to face with a developer whom you may not know his name nor face and imagine how they'd feel before sending your feedback over, and I'll be happy if people can do so politely."

"This will completely drain away their motivation and worse, they'll end up quitting because of it, which is why I hope that everyone can understand that,"

"Mistakes are mistakes of course and they should be notified, but I'll appreciate it if everyone can give careful thought in their thoughts and feedback before sending them over." - Naoki Yoshida

from other perspective, this is a prove that they read and aware of players critism. however my concern is sometimes they paid more attention toward japanese fans than the rest of the world, like how it is happened with FF14.

Loving the game. When I first started playing I wasn't too impressed with it Visually, not that it would ever had stopped me playing, but once you start to notice all the little details and the way the lighting is its really good looking game.

This shit is too good

Yup. I've got the 200+ soundtrack and been listening to it the past few days. So good.

Benedikta's theme makes her segment very memorable.

I love this track
Typhon boss fight 2nd phase
and the choir version that plays towards the end.

So I've been playing this franchise since 1987 and have seen the ups and downs and constant changes that it provides to the players in terms of its scope, gameplay, writing, etc. Favs include 4, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15 and now this one.

I think 16 is one of the most impressive and coolest audio visual entertainment pieces of any medium Ive ever experienced. Im not hot on the down time side missions in between the big story beat chapters, but there's some occasional good ones in there. Not Witcher 3 tier, but they'll border on it at random. For me, the combat, writing, and soundtrack and god damn the story. The story guys. Thats what carries me through this amazing experience so far.

There's a lot of FF4 in here. ALOT. So much so that it makes me wonder if they're at all connected in some weird way. For anyone that doesnt think this is a "real" FF game, you either havent played them all or are just being purposefully ignorant about the franchises history. Nearly every single entry is different from the last and this is no different.

And Im no weeb, but if I had to.....fuckin Benedikta dude. She could be the hottest game chick Ive ever seen. Good god damn.

Following up to my post from a couple weeks ago.

I feel bad that I’ve fallen off so hard. The story has been fucking phenomenal and the boss fights are some of the coolest and memorable I’ve seen in ages, but the fucking sidequests man 😒

They just halt everything and take Clive & Co. straight to Dullsville. And I realize they’re optional and I can just carry on with the plot, but I also know that important gear is tied to them. On top of that, I’m a completionist so it’s an extra bitch and a real big stain on an otherwise outstanding Final Fantasy game.

I will absolutely finish it, especially for end of the year stuff. I mean, it’s not like we really have anything major coming out for the rest of the Summer anyway right?

Forcing myself to complete it, I hate the story hate the story telling, hate the way the story is presented, i feel sorry for Clive’s voice actor he is doing a phenomenal job.

But what i hate most is the Eikon and dominant relation, how does it work in this world

Are the dominants immortals or if they die the power of the Eikon transfer to someone else ?

I am near the end and still they didnt explain this !

If Ifirit is taken the powet of the other Eikons how come Garuta get summoned even after losing her power ?

They speak about Odin and his enormous power as if it is something just came out of nowhere so before Barnabas no dominant of Odin was in the world ?

I am so disappointed about this team and their approach in the story telling!

The game answers all of these "questions". The team can't force you to pay attention.

I finished today.

Pretty good overall. Not sure about the complaints about the side quests. Usually only a. Few pop up at a time and they're pretty quick. Only point where it was kind of overwhelming was right before the end, when like 15 quests pop up. But those are all pretty decent quality.

So I guess I don't get the complaints on pacing.

Story wasn't bad. Liked the characters. Game is better when it's more focused for sure, because the open areas are kind of generic.

Solid middle of the pack entry. Better than 13 and 15, which is all you can hope for.

Economy is kinda fucked. Nothing really worth buying except potions. You get a ton of crafting supplies but there isn't really anything worth crafting either.
