Isn't this the same guy who is hosting an xbox podcast? Lol you can read spencer's twitter with the same success

I think you are talking about Mattyp Mattyp . I think Karak was on that podcast a few times. Doesn't matter. Karak does a great job reviewing games.

And even Mattyp Mattyp was being honest in his impressions video. He said he is liking the game, but not "loving" it after 70 hours. These guys can be Xbox fans and still be real about the games they are playing.

Thanks for the Gold Mattyp Mattyp !

This is a criticism by IGN, and it’s purely POV, but this is exactly what I want from a game focusing on exploration. I don’t want to follow map markers and way points on a map screen. Following in game signs and directions from speaking to NPCs is exactly how I want to go about finding areas of interest. That’s what I consider immersive.
Exactly, Does anyone remember any of the cities in Skyrim? It's not like the map told you exactly what each building was. Who really wants that anyway?

Am I going to like this game? Probably not.

Am I going to upgrade the Game Pass version to play it tonight anyway? Probably.

Maybe it'll be the first Bethesda game I can actually get into, because it's Space related, but I doubt it. Willing to give it a fair chance though.

No, I think that was a general "he scored it high ? obviously he's biased" post. There's a few of those in the last couple of pages here.
I can't keep up.

My gold expired and have tried a dozen times to renew but site here keeps giving me "an unexpected error"

Not sure I even want gold atm for this thread :)

Two great exclusives keeping each other warm.

Not really a fan of Fallout (I wanted Space Skyrim), but might check this out near the end of the year.

I enjoyed SM as well but its funny how so many PS guys are like "Oh 88 thats trash wait for SM2"

Meanwhile..

Yet Spider-Man never had to carry GOTG or GOTY tags, and consistently gets positioned as a good not great game in forums like this one.

Horizon FW sits at 88 and people act like it was a bust. Mind you I thought it was disappointing.

Yet Starfield is supposed to sit at the GOTG table?

Can someone who might have played it already chime in and say how much the game will bother you with the settlement/crafting bullshit? It's one of my major gripes of Fallout 4.

Watching now
Spider-Man was made in 4 years compared to Starfields 8, 25-50% of Starfields Budget, and was made with a much smaller development team. Insomniac net worth 270 million vs Bethesda's 7.5 billion

Starfield is getting criticized because they had everything going for it to be an all time great game and it failed to live up to that. This was supposed to be Microsoft's best studio and it's a bit of an egg given all its resources for Starfield

Just goes to show that fanboys will go to extreme lengths to pretend that <big exclusive game> is not that good and has obvious issues or is a copy/paste from the last game in the series.

To be frank. People are idiots. Whoever claims that Spiderman, Horizon and - based on reviews so far - Starfield aren't amazing games probably doesn't own the console they are released on.

It's 88 on opencritic. That's the same score as Spider-Man, Horizon: Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Final Fantasy XVI. It's also higher then games like Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, and Death Stranding.

How on earth are people trying to spin this as a bad game?

Sure it's not the 90+ that many were hoping for, but it's by most accounts a great game that you will sink a massive amount of time into. Three years plus from now this game will be have that special Bethesda touch of being even better due to the massive modding community.
I don't think anyone is trying to spin it as a bad game. At least no one with brains when the public can't even play it yet. But despite that OC score, there ARE reviewers who are let down and giving 7s and such. Tempering expectations isn't a bad thing. Especially when Horizon FW is on that list and it kinda sucks. FF16 meh too but thats prob more controversial to say

Nobody is saying its a bad game but you can't deny it failed to meet expectations. The overall design is nothing of what people were expecting, there's zero space exploration with your ship, you open a map to load another map, there seems to be little enemy variety, AI is very basic and the game takes hours to start to pick up pace, etc.

And you and everyone here knows very well that the scores can be deceiving look at Halo Infinite an incredibly mediocre game overall and still got 87 MC.
Also pretty much all those games you mentioned got shit online despite some having really high MC scores. 🤷‍♂️

Stick to side quests and where they take you seems to be the general consensus.

The main quest and exploration in general are lacklustre.
This is the weirdest shit i've heard yet... how the f can the side stuff be more "engaging" than the main quest line? Did they outsource the main story to some underpaid dude in Alaska or something...

Runs like absolute hot garbage on both platforms. What the fuck Bethesda.

So much for it being 'polished and smooth'. It's stuttering all over the place and takes forever to load ....

I mean it's usually always the case with Bethesda games. Side content is the bread and butter and MQ is shite

Spider-Man, H:FW, R & C, FF16 is 4X 88s and earned scores in-line or even exceeded what were expected of them from the the community and were just individual feathers in a feather-laden cap, rounding out an eclectic library. None of them were realistically expected to be GOTY contenders, let alone GOTG.

Starfield is 1 88 (soon to be 83-85) which was touted as being THE GAME OF THE FOREVER, the saviour of Xbox's flagging console business and propel Xbox Sales and Game Pass into the stratosphere, earning endless GOTY awards and turn Xbox game studios into critical darlings, replacing Halo as Xbox's premier franchise. Safe to say Starfield fails at achieving any of that and is nothing more than a good-decent, but mostly mediocre game.

I mean even if they end up exactly the same score I played through SM once and deleted it

Its highly likely I come back to Starfield over and over again to get stuff accomplished I want done

Regardless of scores if a game keeps bringing me back to me that is a great game

I think nadella is telling phil spencer now that if he cannot get larian to be acquired by MS, he will be out by year end. Pretty sure the user review will be even worse than fallout 4 just for no maps. Then there will be tons of users just tell people to get No Mans sky if you want early access.

"highly likely I come back to Starfield" how would you know? You haven't even played it yet. You are shilling quite hard for something you haven't put one second into lol

That you for proving my point so easily.

"but mostly mediocre game"

It's 88 Opencritic score. If you think this is mediocre based on that metric, then sucks for you.

It's also a score derived from just shy of a hundred reviews, at best it will now move a point in either direction. It's not dropping to 85.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The sad part is that Elders Scrolls will be built with this technology

Which means loading galore in 2029-ish

Madness

Elder Scrolls will not need to have dozens of different maps and terrain in memory at all time.

It will not be the same kind of things at all.

Well but the good part is that it won't have space travel and planets and shit so it might be more in line with skyrim and with faster loadtimes (will probably be on whatever next-gen console xbox is making).

Yeah, it's a significant disappointment for me, as I love that shit. Tears Of The Kingdom did it so brilliantly earlier this year, and Skyrim was great at it too. Same with Elden Ring.

The fact this game doesn't really have that is a real downer.

What was expected though when exploring planets in space? Going to an empty planet is really just going to have resources to gather and not villages/settlements to stumble across. It is a different genre of game when it comes to that.

There does seem to be fun side quests from the people you meet. Some of the videos I have watched mention stumbling across some hidden mining camps/and or pirate bases. However, details have been small and I am guessing it is due to not wanting to spoil the story of the game too much.

I have always thought the best quests will be in the factions and exploring planets will be more about getting resources to expand my ship and outposts versus coming across some lore or amazing weapon. Going onto an unknown planet and finding ruins that make sense and contain loot you can use with your technology does not make a lot of sense in this type of game.

So is an 88 a 'feather on a feather-laden cap' or 'a mostly mediocre game'? At least be consistent with your asinine takes.

Be honest, you're mad that the game scored as high as it did, aren't you.
