hey, i don't know if this debate was solved before and I just didn't see the info, but is the "download required" on the switch case a false alarm for physical collectors? Even though the back of the box says 3gb needed, I did an update and it's only 833mb on my sd card. Would it have been unplayable still if i didn't update?

I'm playing Rena Route

Any tips on how to break the game?
Easy break in the first few hours for either character.

1. Make sure you have Nimble Fingers talent, restart if you don't.

2. After Kross Castle level up Determination fully, Purity enough to get 40,000 fol, and the skills to get you Pickpocket.

3. Go to Hurley to the east, buy the thieves gloves from the general store.

4. Go to Marze, steal the Goodie Box from a character. You'll have to save scum both this and the next part. Fuck up the pickpocket, and you won't get another chance.

5. Save your game, and keep opening the Goodie Box until you get the Sword of Marvel. It may take a while, as it has a 1% drop rate.

6. Rip and Tear with a 1100 attack power sword that you're not supposed to get for another 25 hours.

Or just craft items or fishing till you get 10% item discovery challenges done and get the goodie box

Other way is to travel to a unique spot near Kukri town and get a benefaction card. This card spawn 1 item instead of three but easier to get

Which character do I steal the Goodie Box from?

I just used Master Chef super specialty on 10x fruit + Eggs & Dairy, I got 7 “yogurt salad” which restores 70% HP + MP. Seems OP as hell
Can not use food in battle so maybe not too op. For goodie box hunter, we can craft it via Art - Strange Goods. Low chance but if you don't want to spend money and sp for the thieves gloves

I must say I've been thinking about just playing this game ever since I stopped yesterday. I went into fulfill some responsibilities at work and got out super early. Plan on spending a conservable amount of time with the game today. Just loving the fact that it's really just making me feel like it did in the '90s and they've just done. Just a great job and making it modern enough while not losing the charm of the original.

Man it only takes 120 points to max out Determination, I had it maxed at Cross Cave. Nice to get that out of the way so early.

Now I’m playing like a real man: Training activated on universe mode
If you are really feeling like a BIG BRASS BALLED MUHFUCKA, try fighting the super boss that's behind the Laguss Mountains. 1.2 Million HP. LOL I lasted 7 seconds 😭🤣.

Speaking of broken, look what you can do with Scouting + Bodyguard super specialty:

I already am 11 hours in and my characters are at level 36. I've been doing lot of exploration, grinding, and extra stuff. Plus the story stuff. I loved the OG and they did a great job with this Remake

Or if you have Ashton, rip and tear with the Luminous Slicers. 1050 or 1100 Attack power I think.

I often forget how good the Private Action events are. I just forgot about this one...

One thing I forgot about was the Private Action, while playing as Rena, is with the guy named Clyde in Krosse City. In fact, Clyde is the missing Prince of Krosse. You have to the choice to crash his wedding, and Celine and the Krosse prince declare their feelings for each other and after that event is done, you see Celine with 4 affection hearts for the Prince in the status screen. Pretty neat and cool I must say.

Go ahead and listen to this and unlocked the ability after I'm getting a couple of the characters really certain level and the right attitude. It definitely works and might not be at one. Hit demolition like you see in that post, but definitely can come and useful for the lesser enemies. And once you equip that ability that aggro's enemies to you and you can do that multiply or with the battles it makes the experience easier to accumulate. I must say I didn't think they would read do an overhaul the skill system as much as they did. I rather enjoy it.

Damn they really changed the “meta” quite a bit! A few observations around early-mid game (just got Opera)

- offensive magic went from pathetically outclassed to extremely powerful, so cool

- a lot less focus on spamming your best multi-hit attack move, now it’s all about breaking your opponent (which magic greatly helps with)

- ripper blast (sorry, “rock explosion” or whatever the hell it’s called now) is kinda mid, definitely not the god-tier endgame move like in the original

- sadly it seems like the “level up Opera’s healing star and use her instead of Rena” strategy doesn’t seem viable. Healing Star can only be upgraded once so I doubt it’s enough to be your only healing move. Also Rena’s offensive moves are a lot better now.

This game is amazing and I'm having a great time with it. It has exceeded my expectations and may even become my GOTY. However, I'm EXTREMELY salty about one thing:

Before even playing the game I had seen Opera's character design and really wanted her in my party. I'm playing through the game blind (no guides), first time (never played the original), and when I get a chance to add Ashton to my party then I do. I mean, he's an awesome dual sword fighter and plus the conversation around Creepy and Weepy is HILARIOUS. Eventually I'm like "hold up, did I miss Opera?". Then I look it up and apparently now I can't get Opera at all JUST BECAUSE I RECRUITED ASHTON? I've heard of games having optional characters but I've never heard of a game where you can't get some characters BECAUSE you recruited other characters. Plus Ashton is one of the first characters in the game so I'm still learning the game at the point when you recruit him. I'm like 12-13 hours in now and I'm not about to just start over, but man..... I wanted OPERAAAAAAAAAA.

This is one thing that I really wish changed for the remake. Let us recruit all characters, these modern machines can handle it

Yes, this game is from a bygone era of strategy guides or trial and error. It has permanent missables. You needed to watch certain Prive Actions, and ignore certain things. All at the correct time, if you venture too far you lose out as well.

I can't believe how broken Bodyguard with increased encounters enabled is 🤣🤣🤣

I've got training enabled aswell and something else but not sure if that affects bodyguard kill exp??

I hit lv95 tonight circling around the forest outside Ell refugee village before the sorcery globe and I'm sat on 2.5m Fol what a brilliant place to grind lol, I managed to make Ashton's Mephistofar and earlier in the game I save scummed a sword of marvels.

I don't think I'll be platting this game the character recruitment trophies are a big thumbs down.

Excellent game though this deserves to be a success.

I just got Bodyguard and Scouting. Bodyguard is at level 10. Does it make leveling up easier and faster?

22 hours in and at Hoffman Ruins

Claude, Rena and Celine is at level 42 - 43
Opera is at level 30
Welch and Precis is at levels 15 to 25

Overall loving the game. This might be my GOTY

What's worse, is that Ashton is great in combat but Opera is flat- out, the best melee character in the game. S+ Tier while Claude and Chisato are S. RIP.

Your characters will kill most green mobs on screen whilst running around, with increased encounters enabled it's mental how much exp you'll clock up.

Have you test them all? Cause there are some changes on the combat arts power, hitboxes etc. Someone said PEAR INTO PEACHES got nerfed quite a lot. While in my experience, Claude's Helmsplitter is A+/S tier now

I’d like to clarify that rock explosion is still a decent move that does a lot of damage/hits. Thing is, a) breaking the enemy’s defense seems more important than raw damage now, and b) the animation makes you vulnerable at the beginning, meaning you will want to break the enemy before using it, or hit them with it from behind.

Man this remake completely scrambled the old tier list I think. I’m still figuring it out. Mages went from E tier to S tier. Moves that sucked in the original have been made useful like Helmsplitter. I saw a video of someone using a Rena/Celine/Leon/Noel party and just obliterating enemies with spells.

I love how broken it is, I was afraid they would rebalance this one but on the contrary. This one is more broken. And save scumming is much more convenient because its so fast now. I got a Veil Piercer out of the benefactor card which is ridiculously OP at this stage. Especially now that I have Bodyguard and enemy encounter rate up at 100% on Celine its very easy to farm.

They balanced it only in the sense that (at least from what I’ve seen so far) party members are a lot more evenly matched and there is a wider variety of useful moves/strategies. Mages are now the glass cannons they always should’ve been. Battles are no longer “pick the move that does the most hits in the least amount of time + spam the shit out of it”.

But yeah there are so many ways to break the game and get OP, which is cool because I feel like breaking the game IS the game in SO2. Honestly it feels like Gemdrops really understood what made the original special. Couldn’t ask for a better remake!

My local Walmart came through where Amazon pre-order has failed, first time having an issue with Amazon on a preorder before. Started with Rena, so far I really like how it looks and God that music is so fucking good, only about an hour and a half in ATM.

I will say I kind of didn't like being bombarded with all the tutorial messages right at the start, I get why they are they for someone who hasn't played an RPG, but for a bit it felt like you couldn't even move without something popping up. Yes game I know the leather armor I just found that has a bigger defense number means it will increase my defense lol. I also don't like that the mini map is marked with an exclamation mark of where to go. The fun of these games is wandering around and figuring shit out, I don't need to be told where to go at every minute, I didn't see a way to turn it off either. Even with those two things, I am looking forward to playing more later on.

Opera can still do her specials that deal more damage than Claude's Mirror Slice...I mean Mirror Blade, from from accross the fucking. Haven't got Chisato yet but I hear Ernest and Noel of all people are legit beasts now. I mean look at Celine. All offensive casters were not viable at all in the OG, now she's a killer.

Oh shit wanna talk about broken? You get 10x mithril as a reward for using Customize 100x (which is very easy to do using cheap materials). Which means you can get Aeterna (AKA eternal sphere) as soon as you finish the Lacour tournament.
