Steam Deck OLED Announced: Coming November 16

I always put screen protectors on my handhelds so the etched screen wasn't really a concern. I really like the look of the limited edition and I figured I'd probably regret not getting it even if it isn't really that "limited". Plus, the 1 TB SSD of course. Still a little overpriced for what it is, but I'm pretty happy with my decision.

Now I just gotta wait until after Black Friday to sell my Rog Ally. Prices are too low right now.

not sure if you saw this but apparently a screen protector won’t fully negate the etched display according to Russ

Ah.....good to know. I doubt it will be noticeable unless doing a side by side comparison (which I obviously won't be able to do), but if I find it annoying in the slightest I'll return it.

Thanks.

I had both a 64GB and 512GB of the LCD Deck and the etched display was muted though not too badly in comparison (it was a little more noticeable if you played with Vibrant Deck to make the colors better, the LCD really didn’t have a great display in either case)

honestly I’m still rather irritated at Valve, who the community was rather vocal about not caring for the etched display, then only offering a limited edition with that feature a lot of us dislike, I’d have ordered the LE immediately if I could have gotten it with the glossy display 🤷🏼‍♂️

The good news I guess is the screen is now user replaceable and swappable (etched > glossy & vice-versa). So if you do want the LE with a glossy screen, you could sell the etched one and put in a glossy if you like tinkering.

IMO, 512GB plus 2TB NVME for about $150 off Amazon is the optimal config. If you really want anti glare screen can get a screen protector.

Yeah, I'm not sure how Valve didn't get that message about etched displays. Confusing to say the least

Yeah, I most likely would have done the LE or at least the 1TB if the etched wasn't built in as well, but no big deal. 512GB + 1TB SD on hand (that's faster than the internal storage anyway) is good enough.

Not sure how I feel about this thing. I've tried a ton of games and haven't really had a great experience.

I'll see how it goes throughout the week.

I agree. Honestly, I went with the LE almost entirely for the translucent casing. Just like that look over the regular black case. But beyond those aesthetics, the 512 GB configuration is really the best option.

You can get custom shells for the back for like $30. Well, for current Deck. They even have front shells but those are much trickier to install.

Woohoo just got my 1TB OLED a few minutes ago, it’s installing updates now.

First impression is the OLED screen with etched glass looks beautiful. I’m sure the glossy one will look great as well but I have no regrets. It looks very bright and clear with no blurring or washing out.

Edit: the exhaust retains the same intoxicating new electronics smell as the original version.

A couple questions. I am thinking of grabbing one of these for one of my kids.

Does this thing capture footage for editing purposes?

How does this thing compare to Asus‘s offering?

ETA Prime handheld comparison....

SDOLED's total system draw is crazy good. A whopping 7W less than Go. The Ally is making a great argument for itself. It's a shame he didn't compare with a 7840U device aswell. Z1E being tied to OEM support is IMO worse than AMD providing the drivers directly with the 7840U. With that said, ETAP's videos aren't really that in depth. I feel like he doesn't really give handhelds a proper testing, like Phawx for instance does.

I was thinking the same thing. Much of the comparison was just reading the specs. I like this channel, but I don't go there for in-depth analysis.

5 day window ends friday doesn't it? This Thursday and last Sunday don't count. But it should really be next day for something so little.
I know its working days but unless there is a miracle on my side, its not happening

In the UK and mine is STILL on the way to the final delivery centre. It's been travelling there for two days but I'm assuming this counts any overseas travel too. My LCD version was here within 3 days so I'm hoping this one turns up tomorrow. Anyone in the UK received there's yet?

Mostly good but some games still have issues.

At the end performance is roughly the same, maybe you will get 5-7% improvement tops. So what you have with the Deck now will be same with OLED.

Something like Ally or Legion Go will be a better bet as long as you don’t mind terrible battery life.

Not received but got an email from Parcelforce saying it’s due for delivery tomorrow.

No further updates on mine. Although on Era UK people are saying they are starting to receive emails from Parcelforce to say it will be delivered tomorrow.

Nice one guys, I'm assuming I'll get an email at some point today then. Shame I've got a stacked day of work as I could do with a day with my feet up on the couch playing!
