[Windows Central] Don't buy a PlayStation — Save money on the PC versions of Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and others instead

It's not work, I'm just selling all my consoles, games and accessories. PC + Deck OLED life for me from now on. It's not for everyone but it sure is for me!

Until I can I walk into my living room, sit down on my couch, put my left hand in my shorts and grab my balls, use my right hand and grab the game controller, hit the button on the controller and my tv, surround sound system and game console comes on and I start gaming immediately. Until all this can happen on PC, I am not interested in it anyway whatsoever.

Ah yes, windows central, the publication that gave Diablo 4 a perfect 100 / 100 score, and gives every Microsoft published game a score of 90+
To be fair, they give out 100's like it's candy on Halloween.

So is the new strategy to "win" via PC? Because that's what it seems like.

The next version of windows is going to be a hoot. Gamepass will be promoted right from the initial setup.
I feel for pc gamers that have to deal with Windows. The whole Windows Vista fiasco made me turn away from Microsoft and embrace OSX and consoles. I hope you guys get a full SteamOS for your 4080s that offers competition to DirectX. At this point you’re all hostage.

Why are Xbox fanboys so damn cringy and desperate all the time? It’s embarrissing.
As someone who hates games media and social media in general, are there Sony and Nintendo equivalents of console warrior recognized journalism.

Like yeah I know you have push square and Nintendolife, but I only ever see the console warrior statements being made on Microsoft only media?

Again I'm being genuine here because I only ever see things like this because of Gaf. I don't read or watch any games media content anymore because it's all hot shit

A lot of Xbox players are migrating to PC of late and this route is actively being promoted by their shills/media.

I have a feeling that a shit show is coming.

Rocking Linux here and never had any complaints. I can play almost every game via Wine or Proton and I don't have to be using a trash operating system that is bloated and full of spyware. Proprietary simply is no way to live anymore.

Sad... Like you said Vista is what opened my eyes and I have fond memories of XP, but they ruined Windows and other OSs have caught up.

I think Steam Deck opened a lot of eyes on the possibility of using Linux as a gaming PC. I'm typing on my Linux desktop right now, but my main gaming rig is still Windows. The goal is to eventually move away from Windows entirely. That will be a happy day.

A cautionary tale for Sony certainly, valid point.
Sony has been putting games on PC for years now and their latest releases have broken records. On top of that, plenty of people, me included, have powerful or very powerful PCs. I bought Spider-Man 2 day 1.

So, is he right? Let the data do the talking. At this time, the answer is a resounding no.

Xbox the console is a red herring to their overall strategy. This was evident in the scoping of the arguments that removed PC from the Activision acquisition debate. This is and has always been the endgame.

3.5 years ago I thought MS had a real shot at changing the market share hierarchy because they were launching their new console with a new Halo. I guess I was half right. Their market share certainly changed. Just never thought it would change to the degree that their evangelicals would be begging people to quit consoles altogether.

Most big western gaming outlets usually favour Xbox and Nintendo over PS., plus you have all the MS/XBOX centric websites like [windowscentral] Even if you take Push square as pro PS.. it really isn't as black and white with them because they aren't as pro PS as you think, they've made alot of negative articles about PS etc.
What makes everything much worse when it comes to MS is their ambassador program, which translates to "Shilling for MS gets you points and free stuff" so people have a reason to war 24/7. They have an army of those and they are everywhere even here on GAF.

The irony...

From a collective that often refference "media bias." Publishing articles where the bias is explicit. I expect them to breathe life into the reviewing ghost of stevivor and start publishing PS reviews soon.

Not sure why they felt the need to write this.. Good exclusives don’t sell consoles anyway, right Phil?

And Buy Xbox 🙅‍♂️ 💍🙆‍♂️
MS community ev… I mean rabid fans: “what are you talking about? We all win, day 1 on PC cannot hurt console sales”

MS community ev… rabid fans many many weeks later: “Do not buy PS5 you fools, game will be landing on PC at some point next year, it makes no sense to buy a console for it…”

Aside from the hilarious fact that these same jokers were advocating for day one Sony first party games on PC and that they do not see how buying Xbox consoles makes even less sense then with day 1 PC games and GamePass, it shows that the intention of these “evangelists” / paid gaming bloggers / ‘turfers is to ride pro-consumer messaging like a breeding pony while trying to carry water for their favorite brand and this aligned to Corporate ;).

I do agree to that.

I just mean like is there ever an equivalent coming out of Nintendo or Sony media, like is there any legitimate site like a push square having an article saying "you should just buy a PC instead of an Xbox".

Or Nintendolife going "rather buy switch than a PS or Xbox because you can play your games on the go far easier".

I dunno it just feels like every second week windowscentral or whoever having a hit piece on Sony where I just don't see it coming from the competitors in any official capacity?

But again i don't follow much games media anymore so I can't say anything for definite

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, another one of these "all you need is a high end gaming PC, console sucks nobody wants a console" crap

The same shit every day, every month ,every year, and PC hardware is getting ridiculously expensive.

You have a point.

Still it seems odd when Xbox put games on PC day one. Might as well have the article be about both platforms.
I warned people this campaign would happen leading into the release of the PS5 Pro because Xbox did not have a counter to the Pro and was originally going to just release a redesigned Seres X "at the same great price of $499"

I still believe that plan has been scrapped and Xbox will jump start "next gen" much earlier than Sony's PS6

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Single-player PlayStation will usually not arrive day one on PC, so there is a downside to waiting. Naturally, if what you care about is just playing games as fast as possible, then you should definitely go ahead and buy a PlayStation 5. If you already have a gaming PC and you're okay waiting a year or two for games to be ported, you really don't have to buy a PlayStation 5!

In general, this approach allows you to save money, as you often won't be paying full price for a game, and it will usually include all of the DLC or expansions, as is the case with Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered.

The problem with this approach is that after waiting for a year or two for the PC port, by then I'll be able to buy the PS5 disc version of Spider-Man 2 for 25-30 euros, but the PC port that's just been released will be full price, so I'd have to wait more even longer before the price drops below the price of the PS5 version.

Moderated wildly
I think a lot of people have been moving to pc for years now. Ever since games like fortnite, pubg and apex legends started getting bigger. Even call of duty is heavily pushed by streamers and influencers as play on pc with a controller. Some preffering duel shock 4 or duelsense.

But, it does look like the big push is now to pc.

Personally, I think anyone who enjoys games should goto pc as now it's just an amazing eco system with gamepass and portables such as the rog ally.

Deffo feels like there's some push happening by the "media" though. I guess those cheques cleared.

Strange....

For me no reason to own both xbox and playstation, pc has all even nintendo games and some pc/steam exclusives.

Reverse groomer.
Who doesn't want to go broke on hardware that doesn't fully get utilized
Judging by the terribly optimized games and lack of true next gen games i'd argue that consoles don't get their hardware fully utilized either.

either way... you can easily "fully utilize" a 4080/4090. it's about as simple taking any game you have and putting it up to 4k + RT. Most cards can't even do that for half decade old games.

As a former Linux evangelist on this forum, Linux is pretty peachy and near perfect for gaming. It's hard to disagree with that when the only trouble you will have is with anticheat online games (which if you liked enough, could just play on a dual boot) and Nvidia drivers. And as the userbase grows those problems will be sorted out sooner or later. Certainly excited for SteamOS 3.5 to come to other handheld PCs so we can have a superior UI for portable PC.

That being said.... the cracks show immediately once you do anything non gaming related that's more intensive than listening to music, browsing the internet, or writing text. For me, I had just started getting into making music, and Music production on Linux and audio in general especially is a hellscape that really has no "good" solution. I ended up jumping back to Windows purely because every program I tried or wanted to try just sort of had some insufferable problem that made it inferior, whether it's certain essential VSTs on Reaper just working like shit or FL Studio being a choppy mess that's just plain difficult to make music with under WINE. Native or translated from windows, music production is difficult on penguin os

Either way, until that stuff gets better on that end, I think it's a more wise idea to just find an ISO of Windows 10/11 with all the extra fat & telemetry cut out. Enough people share your 2 exact problem with Windows for solutions to have arisen, anyways. I think as the EU cracks down on MS and big tech's bullshit eventually you can find a "European" Windows 11 that's everything people ever wanted from the OS, lol.
