Xbox says just because you don't like a game, doesn't mean it's a bad game

woof, I don't know how you came to that conclusion from that tweet but more power to your imagination brother.
There's such thing as positive toxicity, and this is one of them. Same with the people that no matter what, whatever is new, it's to be loved or the comment is "well this isn't for me but I hope everyone else has fun! 💕".

Funny enough, their tweet is about Mixtape and that kind of super positive all the time attitude wasn't in the 90s at all.

"this isn't for me" already disqualifies something from being toxic positivity, lol, you're confusing it with self awareness.

if I say "well I absolutely fucking hate strategy RPG's but I hope the people who like them have fun", I would sincerely hope no one reads that as toxic positivity.

The 90's weren't full on hyperbole 'this is the worst fucking thing game ever made, absolute trash and anyone who likes this is the worst type of human being' either. My friend went to see Suburban Commando in the theater and walked out half way through - and it was still only a 'shitty movie'.

Is positive toxicity just "they like something that I don't, therefore they're wrong!"?

There was definitely people who were like that and blew up. Stand up comedians have been doing it forever. The internet just makes you more aware those people exist in every realm.

But to your point, now image if you just loved watching movies with your friends as a weekly routine and Suburban Commando won every prestigious award there was in movies. We know how that plays out. You're going to get Suburban Commando Saves Christmas and Suburaban Commando Scared Stupid. Then half of Hollywood is going to make the most lazy cash-ins on the formula and if it's overall successful enough to be that lazy, you're going to end up hating films because why try to make quality of these turds are selling.

The eye roll of this tweet is it's just like 'welp, so you don't like it but others do. So it doesn't mean it's a bad game' and it's just stupid. It's stupid because even IGN who gave this movie a 10/10 had a literal rating that says Bad game. I can go on Xbox platform and score something as a bad game using their star system.

Sure sounds awfully familiar.

You can't even understand my arguments, you don't even reply or you come back with fucking weak ass counters, as weak as your behind the curtain smiling emojis, little warrior.

When your dear Sony Considers a bloodborne remaster a financial risk, you also have an audience problem. Is that clear enough yet? Do I have to spell it out more clearly?

Positive toxicity is the entire access media showering a 3-hour movie posing as a game with 10/10s.

You mean to tell me there wasn't a SINGLE gaming journalist who thought 'this isn't a game', or 'this is fucking cringe'?

Every single one of them thought this was a flawless masterpiece? EVERY one?

Toxic positivity is being positive when it's uncalled for, which can have adverse effects. The simplest example is saying something is good to protect someone's feelings while if they go forward with the idea they'll lose their house.

LoL, pretty sure if most gamers dont like a game, then, yeah, its more or less a bad game, Microsoft have completly lost the plot now :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I am pretty sure that most people confuse their own opinions with facts. But I also don't understand what Xbox was trying to achieve with that post.

What wrong with that? Oh, it was Xbox saying, so anything they say should be treated as bad and terrible PR.

Xbox has had some real PR nightmares but I really think this is the most hilariously limp dick tweet I could possibly imagine from any official gaming company account.

Journey was 2012's GOTY and that's exactly that.

Journey had gameplay, puzzles, and it fully interacted with the player via its world. You can make the claim that both games try to evoke emotions via their artistyle, but this is where the similarities end.
Which parts would you consider a "puzzle"? Because I sure as heck don't remember any. Its main selling point is that it's more of an experience you could embark on with random strangers than an actual game.

I forgot that Journey was game of the year of that year lol. I like Journey, but that's really silly, in the same year that Dishonored, Far Cry 3 Max Payne 3 and a lot of other much better games came out.

That said, I feel like back then those awards didn't matter quite so much. These days with millions of people watching TGAs, there's a lot more awareness of who's winning these things. And they definitely affect sales more than they used to.

Everyone hates CoD and yet it continues to be one of the best multiplayer games on the market year after year

You don't know how social media works? It's just memes or random takes to get discussions going. Don't take it too seriously.

What a perfectly wholesome message ..

now let's see how neogaf reacts ...

oh ..
You two are such stalwart apologists. Its not just a random take or meme. Its an official communication. Its embarrassing, they have learnt nothing.

Its simple. They have to become professional. Make good games, promote them. Make good hardware, promote it. Don't 'learn', don't 'excuse', don't lean into the parasocial. Just. make. good. games. Everything else is a waste of their time and fuels debate that is toxic to their brand. The idea that any publicity is good publicity is a fallacy.

I mean, I don't see how the fact that this is "official communication" is relevant to some negative context when the official statement shares a true sentiment.

It's a generalized truth that goes against the modern trend of thinking in binary terms. If it's not great it's bad, it's either left or right, it's either a tweet that resonates with me or "it's an embarrassment".

Your response is in line with the very reactionary culture that this alludes to. "If someone doesn't agree with me, then they are somehow hopelessly biased and have no credibility".

Edit: very surprised to see this triggered demigod demigod , my bad bro.

yes, because books, movies, tv shows and games that are disliked by a majority are of course bad and the majority never changes its opinion. no known case ever.

Just disappointed that Xbox could be so stupid as to engage in this. What is it with them, just look at the competition, don't engage, just let the games and hardware speak for themselves.

In many respects I agree. That is just obviously not their jam.

Their games have been mid lately. I'd argue mid has been stepping up their game lately to where they might not even be mid quality soon.

"we are completely unable to develop games that are widely acclaimed so we just pretend that doesn't matter"

Classic Microsoft move.

So name these "Good" games played by 10 or 20 people then, just because someone likes and plays a game, that doesnt make it good and that's not what Microsoft mean in that statement, Phil Spencer already said great games dont matter, now bad games are the new good ones because a low amount can like them, they are a triple A publisher and should know the difference, its an excuse

Dropping the truth bombs they don't need to drop.

They also, shouldn't do anymore of these. They are gaining good ground with groups of people and this is the shit they I'll be attacked for

Just stay silent. It works for others.
