In a hole in the ground, there lived a HOBBIT TRAILER

Maybe it's just the lighting or the close camera angles but it all looks kind of wierd and fake, like I'm obviously looking at some guys in prosthetics on a set. LotR had that look at times when it was at it's worst.

Nope. One was obviously made before the other.

but duckroll, almost everyone on gaf agreed that Edmond's thread would be the official one ( including Sculli if i recall correctly.) That's why his was posted later.

That one should really be the main thread.

LOL I cannot post in the other thread because it closed already :)) well,...

This made my glory morning... definitely looking forward next year for this prequel of my beloved LoTR Trilogy.. :D

All I agreed that was no thread should be made until the trailer was available. I just think people need their trailers when they hit.

But I do think he made a great thread, if not entirely to do with the trailer. If ducky won't merge it, I'd be happy to quote his whole OP into this thread's OP.

I was about to suggest that. Just quote the post or something.

I don't think I'll ever understand how people can fail to be moved by the LOTR films' superb rendering of Middle Earth. Reading comments like yours feels like watching someone fling a double handful of glittering rubies into the upper limbs of tree to knock down some pinecones.

The LOTR films were fine... but I've had my fill of its visual stylings. Surely Middle Earth could be done justice in a slightly different way?

I'm only a casual fan of the books though, so this was never going to get me all misty eyed with joy.

See!

Ducky, you should just merge it or just lock this one, and open that one up. Dantes' put a lot of effort into all of the Hobbit threads over the past year. It's like, his thing man.

Well there's going to be a good deal that is pulled from other Tolkien sources, along with stuff that Jackson and co. completely made up themselves. The Hobbit itself, taken on its own merits, is only a film's worth of narrative.
Actually I'm pretty sure they decided against doing a "bridge" film. Unless something changed, they don't have the rights to The Silmarillion or any other text besides the LotR and The Hobbit.

They decided to split the narrative of The Hobbit into two films.

We did that when we had the Star Fox 64 3D conflict over at Gaming. Would be a cool thing to do, at least for those who didn't get to see it.

All this stuff about Sculli trying to steal attention and 'bad form' is stupid. The trailer was up 7 minutes before Dantes had the OP ready. It's new thread worthy as soon as the trailer is up. Deal with it.

Wow you're comin' off as a jerk. His thread was 6 mins later not hours, like who cares.

I couldn't care less which thread got closed, just so long as I'm only having to refresh one or the other. Two open threads drives me mad.

Looks like Sculli stole the thread just to be the OP and get attention because they all agreed Edmond would do the OP prior

Yep. You got me.

I was just hitting f5 like a motherfucker on all my possible sources and decided to share with GAF as soon as I saw it was up. Relax.

I'm all for merging the threads - as I said. Not a fuck will be given by me. Stop looking for a problem where there is none.

Some people were hoping for something a little more visually unique from the LOTR films. A different take on the source material. This is, after all, only one teams "vision" of Middle Earth.

Does that clear things up?
No, I understand.

But, the books were extremely similar in descriptions, they both take place in the same world, and the movies both have the same director.

So, I do think it is a bit silly.

Now, if it was the Simarillion....

Saw Del Toro's name, so is it safe to assume his Smaug design is still being used? Because I was super excited to see that.

Here's the problem with merging the threads. Because this was made before that, the OP will always remain the one here. That is why I saw no point in merging the threads as it is. There is no way to merge it with the "better thread" having that OP be the thread OP. One of the threads will have to be locked or the OP deleted, and I'll honestly rather keep the one which was made first since this is about a goddamn trailer.

If you have a better solution, let me know!

I say merge the threads and delete the chatter. Sounds like work and I'm not trying to tell the mods what to do. Just trying to do the diplomatic thing.

The Hobbit is tearing us all apart!

Yeah I think they're keeping some of his designs. That's probably the only thing I like about Del Toro, his visual designs.

I was worried when he was in charge of the Hobbit because I've already said a million times before that I'm not a big fan of his English films.

If Ghotocol wasn't the the best action blockbuster in years, I'd probably not be saying it as much. Thanks for helping spread it though!

haha you got me.

For those wanting battles let's not forget that they are also adding the entire plot-line about the council of wizards fighting the necromancer (
Sauron
) so that Gandalf has more to do than he did in the book (in which the events that will be shown here were only talked about).

In addition to that I do clearly remember some action occurring in the Misty Mountains as well as the big battle near the end. I would definitely bank on more action in the second movie than the first but I am sure you will still get enough to satisfy you in this first offering. Plus let's be honest, the LOTR movies were fantastic for many more reasons than just their massive fight scenes.
