There's still Persona 4, FFX, and that Nomura game on the horizon for Vita, all 3 of which are franchise/names that resonate very well with Japanese audiences. I'd say wait for those games before spelling doom/gloom for the system. The DS/PSP/3DS have all shown that it's possible to "rise to heaven" from hell, so to speak.

Sony didn't get that message with ps3 or psp. Also pricing wasn't an issue with sony. 250 is a good price for the system. The problem is them designing hardware that is too highend which creates the high price and not having the software to back it up. Nintendo did have a pricing issue because it was dramatically higher than it needed to be. Granted id argue with the right software nintendo still would've done fine with that pricepoint.

Its not just the hardware pricing, its also the expensive software (both of them) and the fact that the systems have some major flaws (battery life, loading).

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

I still don't understand why the 3DS price cut was so dramatic. I wish I could spy through the infinite void of possibilities and see what difference it would have made had the price cut been to $200 rather than $170

BTW, I'm saddened that no one on this thread even mentioned Sumioni. May have bombed but let's not pretend it doesn't even exist.

it was released?

what? Despite what some of us said about Vita currently lacking true killer apps for the Japanese market, many people contended that the Vita had the strongest launch lineup ever.

Strongest as in number of titles available and variety. Not in sale potential in Japan.

The good thing is Japanese developers announce handheld games pretty close to release date (except that one company with stupid game titles). So Vita can still do well even on TGS if Sony manages to announce something for Fall 2012.

I keep seeing you mentioning TGS for big VITA announcement. If that's the case, VITA would have to endure a very tough 7 tough months before TGS is here.

Let's assume there is a Nomura game for VITA. Are you seriously suggesting a remake of Persona 4 and FFX would really rescue VITA to heaven?

While Microsoft has never soared as highly as Sony (in Japan or elsewhere) and thus has less to lose, it's still interesting to watch them adopt the same policy that is killing Sony ("Who needs first party when we have all these awesome third party games?!")

There is a huge difference between the PS3's situation and the PSV's situation. The PS3 had support lined up for it (Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo, and others), it had a really high initial price (like the PSV I guess) leaving room for pricedrops, and really there was no other viable HD alternative on the market in Japan. The separation between where the Wii and PS3 were is much larger than the gap between 3DS and PSV. The 3DS also already has the userbase and games to add incentive for developers.

I wasn't saying they're in the same position, relative to competing products. I'm merely saying that mayb it's a situation like PS3, where the interest is there, but the price is too steep for many to commit at the moment.

PSP had two GTA's didn't it? Isn't the 3DS at least as powerful as a PSP?

Do you have a link to a full translation of the article or anything?

I dont. I got the news from people in Japan and then checked it out. It basically says sales during the holidays have led the 3DS to become a much more attractive system again because its install base is rocketing up.

Its not too late of course for the Vita if they can find a turn around they will do just fine but as the article also points out pretty much all handheld game support comes from Japan and right now Vita is not looking good.

Since I registered on this forum, it's a constant. Every thread has someone posting this.

You registered April 2010. E3 2011 had all kinds of "Vita = Great; 3DS = Doomed" talk due to 3DS @ $250, and Vita coming at the same price. Now if you mean since you were approved and started posting, that'd be since January 21st of this year, and there hasn't been any good prospects for the Vita in that time, so there's been good reason for someone to post about it in every MC thread.

Love having search back, by the way! :D

Ok, but looking at things completely objectively for the moment, there does not seem to be much evidence by the announced software that there really is such interest. With the PS3 and the 3DS early on, you could validly play the "wait for" game.

The same policy?! Sony has invested more into building a solid stable of internal studios than Microsoft and Nintendo! At one point they had more internal studios developing exclusive content than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.

So... if you don't have any evidence, nobody's going to believe you. And I did some looking in this thread. Apparently the article is just a rumor talking about one developer and their projects.

no one is taking ANY of them seriously i hope. I don't think the Nikkei "THAR BE A VITA MONSTER HUNTER!" is the catalyst for people thinking there's potentially going to be a Vita Monster Hunter.

The next step is to combine them. 3rd G Vita canceled, moved to 3DS.

Also, I liked Game-Science.

Not that I particularly care about this statement, but I am very curious where you got this information.

What kind of evidence could their possibly be? Did you conduct a nationwide poll?

No, I looked at Vita's release list and I do not see one announced game that looks likely to move over 400,000 units. Compare that to the announced software for the PS3 and 3DS. I think the argument of people holding out for a better price had better validity in those cases.

I read it in an article a few years back, and honestly couldn't tell you exactly where.

But I certainly believe it, as Sony has snapped up a lot of studios this gen, while Microsoft was busy buying timed exclusives. Nintendo purchased what, one studio this gen?

Hell, take note of how many internally developed games have been releasing on PS3 versus the other two.

I really do not believe this is correct for Nintendo, especially if you include portable development.

The next console MH could be exclusive again to WiiU if Nintendo is willing again to keep it form PS3. They also could be workin on a new multiplattform MMO title for more plattforms, which probably depends on how much money they make with there monthly fees on that.
Monster Hunter 4/HD Remaster for 3DS/Wii U, Monster Hunter Frontier 2 for PC/PS3/Vita.

Nintendo is not divided out like Sony's internal studios. Most of Nintendo's "studios" are co-located, share projects, and seem to not really be easily picked out. Even if Sony has numerically more "studios," it's easy to see that they're no where near as effective in the sales department. Quanitity (in number of studios) instead of Quality (in sales)?

I call shenanigans. It seems more likely that you're incorrectly remembering exactly what the article said. Nintendo has their fingers in a lot of games and a lot of studios. They have produced more 2nd party efforts as of late rather than buying up studios outright though. Even your idea that PS3 has more internally developed 1st party games is highly questionable.

I should clarify: it's not that Sony doesn't have 1st party IPs, but that they have failed to develop them into system sellers.

Whatever article you read was bullshit. In terms of game software R&D SCE is about as large now as Nintendo overall, and they've released a comparable amount of internally developed games. Nintendo also contracts out more though, they've released more DS/Wii games than Sony has PSP/PS3 games.

You know what this thread needs? Retail reports from J-GAF. And more images of people playing New Love Plus.

I second this

also everything in general took a drop(expect PS2)
so has the 3DS stabilize? or the new releases will kick it back up again this week

Even that's not accurate though, GBA still holds the crown.

In terms of numbers? Nope. Vita has more.

In terms of variety? Maybe, I never bothered searching into the GBA's launch list that much. Castlevania and F-zero were the only games I bothered looking into.

They're not that good. Yeah, they allow these type of games to work... but will people buy it?

Also, I doubt the 3DS can handle big open world games... Vita has Gravity Daze right now, and the world is huge in that.

Please explain why the 3DS couldn't handle big open world games?

Will be interesting to see if RE continues to stick around like other 3DS titles have. MK, MH, and 3dLand seem to be glued into the top ten. Even Inazuma has done well for itself after that lackluster start.

I wonder if we'll see a GTA on the 3DS/Vita. Did Chinatown Wars do as badly as I seem to remember it doing? Wouldn't mind seeing San Andreas stories or whatever.

It really didnt do well though it ended up selling better on DS than the PSP version. GTA has transitioned to 3D and I think most gamers werent willing to go back to the more old school style. Rockstar may be all done with handhelds because even the City Stories games quickly faded

I guess my biggest question regarding the Vita is; why should it succeed? What's is it bringing and to who?

Handheld ghetto, yo! Nintendo is for babies and babies are thugs and thugs are the enemy. Word.

At the end of the day, competition will be a good thing for both Nintendo and the consumer. It's what drives the industry forward. Vita has a place, it's just likely not as the sales juggernaut some would have liked.

No, I believe GBA launched with more games in Japan too. 25 to 24 iirc.
