Can you people play a Vita without a grip?

I can do Vita fine without a grip, though I have been eyeing some.

My new 3DSXL... I've been thinking of importing the CPP XL for the ergonomics alone. This thing DESTROYS my left thumb if I reach an hour of play time.

What destroys my thumb is after a good 2 years of use, I still can't get used to the slidepad and always treat it like it's a legit analog :(
Doesn't help that it can't real grip for shit, even after the XL revision. Sliiide pad, get it? laaaawl!

I use these for the slide/circle pad:

They're a freaking godsend in MK7 prevents my thumb from slipping. I keep the thing on the circle pad at all times, even when the system is closed. They come in a pack of 6, and are apparently hard to find now.

What do you mean by you people? and yes, i have no grip. I bought a grip one time for my psp and never used it. no grip is the only way to play.

people = Vita owners? :p

But yeah, I remember I bought one of those grip chargers for my original PSP-1000 back with Portable Ops came out. also got the analog stick thingy add-on that you would swap with the nub.
Used that combo for a couple of nights and couldn't stop thinking about how freakin' ridiculous it looked.

I say this again, if your portable machine needs a grip add-on, then it's already failed.

A couple fingers of one hand supporting it from the bottom (where the power and headphone jacks are located) is a pretty comfy situation for me. But I've only played Persona games recently, so it might make a difference.

Doing a quick thread necro because I finally imported this:

I'd say it's almost the perfect grip, but not quite. It's comfortable and gives access to all ports and slots on the Vita, most importantly the game slot and the power. However, the handles are not quite as long and comfortable as the CTA grip.

Overall for comfort I'd go:
CTA
Vita Assist
PDP

For most people I think the Vita Assist is probably the way to go, the one downside being it's a bit pricy. People like myself whose hands cramp easily and don't feel like playing a premium might want to go with the CTA grip. I don't think the PDP grip is really worth it for anyone.

^ Had a chance to play with the Hori grip? *wondering how you'd rank them

I've got most of them except for the datel assist one, was thinking about picking it up but I'm really happy with the Hori grip (once I put some celotape inside it to stiffen the sliding), but always want more.

I can play pretty well but always prefer it with a grip.

What do you mean "you people"?!
Yes I can. lol.

I Lol'd,

but yes, yes i can play without a grip. My hand gets tired only on harder songs in Project Diva f, but for most games I can play fine without pain. I have big hands too, it just takes the right posture / positioning.

People actually use the white theme of NeoGAF? ...The horror...

I got one for free when i bought my cheap used vita (the nyko looking one without charge feature), i think it's pretty good but i'm more comfortable playing without it. Might use it for some PS4 remote play games though.

Yeah, I have no issues holding it without a grip. I usually don't have a problem having to form my hand in awkward shapes to hold controllers if playing DJMAX Technika Tune is any indication.

I really can't play my Vita without my CTA grips. My left hand starts to cramp up and eventually falls asleep. In fact, I never got a grip with the PSP and probably would have played it more if I had looked for one.

And just to prove I don't work for CTA :), this is the grip I really want that I just found - I really need to find out how to get it.

Assist Grip from Datel Japan
PSVitaGrips.jpg

I have this grip. It's awesome! Had to order it on eBay from a Japanese seller.
I use it mostly with games that have heavy usage of both sticks and the shoulder buttons (i.e. Killzone). If a game is single stick or D-pad + face buttons only, I can play it just fine without the grip.

I only have a problem with the analog sticks, they make my hand cramp without a grip.

If anyone wants to get that assist grip cheaper than it's on eBay here's a hint: amiami (only in white and red though).

oh wow. a SUPERCHUNK avatar with an animal crossing reference?!

Teggy I think I love you

I don't have a Vita, but if I did, one of these would be absolutely necessary. PSP gave me crazy hand cramps after playing for more than 45 minutes--I imagine the Vita would be much the same. Bookmarking in case I find myself playing Tearaway in the near future. That Nyko grip looks the business.

Well, I can... but now I kind of want that.

Me too.

Its a shame you dont work for CTA OP because you would have just done a good job

Edit: Im definitely ordering a grip tonight i quit playing killzone because it was uncomfortable

Whats the best one i could possibly get? (Ebay is fine)

I have to have a grip for long play sessions. I also picked up the rubber one on Amazon for my 3DS XL. It feels so much better to hold!

Yeah I have never used a grip and can play just fine. Even though, the back touchpad for Remote Play can cause some issues. I accidently hit the back touchpad sometimes and during sessions of Res0gun that can kill your run.

I use my Vita just fine with no grip for hours, but I must say that when I'm doing remote play with my PS4, I have a bad habit of hitting the back touch screen with my fingers. Trying to sail around in AC4 while I'm switching to mortars every so often can be annoying, but I guess it's my own fault.

Edit: What the poster above me said.

I use the assist grip only for killzone mercenary, and since that's the only game i've been playing recently, the grip's been on my vita since mercenary's release. i love it.

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I have been but it's not easy on my old tired hands. However, I don't want to put my sleek white vita in a black grip. Where are the white grips?

Here I'll save you the trouble:

I use this. It is godlike.

The vita is fine on its own, but this is SO much more comfortable and it increases the battery life by about 8 hours, in my experience. The downsides are that it itself takes a very long time to fully charge (maybe like 12 hours? lol) and that you can't directly hook your Vita up to a computer while this thing is on.

Nyko Power Grip

This looks pretty cool. Anyone know if this fits the new Vita model?

I can but in fighting games it can get pretty bad. I've gotten some hand cramps while doing the combo trial trophy for Ultimate Marvel. Everything else isn't bad at all

i don't use one. works fine for me. i carry my vita in case at all times so i really don't want to carry around grips too

Same reason I wouldn't invest in grips. I've never had cramping problems either and I have large hands. You have to be nimble with the Vita, just like a dualshock. Don't hold it like that dualshock gif.
