Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
double funny because that's an actual picture of me!
I've been there.
Kind of wishing I was now. #badday

I don't think its fair to shinobi to say this happened because of him, he might feel uncomfortable with that. In the end it's Orth who demeans his customers and their valid concerns and objections.
Yup. It might have happened regardless of Shinobi bringing to attention. It was on a public forum and besides that, apparently the guy had a history so it was just a matter of time. It all came right down to how shitty Orth was treating fans and consumers.

Sorry, I got it from another board, didn't know it came from here... should've figured '-'

Anyway, it could still be edited and get better =P

how much further could it go? do you want to see Ballmer pop up at the end dressed like Wonder Woman with an Ethernet cord instead of a lasso? because now that i typed it out that actually would be funny!

Massive thread so not sure if its been mentioned, but his twitter account still refers to him as the "Creative Director at Microsoft Studios." If he were summarily fired I doubt this would be present. Or if hes been fired hes dragging it out removing it? Just a thought.

His account was also rumored to be locked. So who know honestly....

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Come on....you have control over what it says on there. Why would he get right on that?

What if Sweet Billy was trying to save everyone? Like he got final confirmation of always on being required and he raged and went on a sarcastic tirade on twitter?

Because he's the hero that GAF deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll hunt him...because he can take it...because he's not a hero...he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...the Sweet Billy"

A few reasons:

1. If you were fired you would look silly to everyone who knew you were fired by keeping that up there.

2. If I were fired why would I want to pretend I'm still working there. I'd be po'd and remove it ASAP.

3. If I'm Microsoft and I just fired someone for breaking am nda or whatever, I believe my legal department would be ensuring he removes any public associations with the company.

To get to where he is in the company probably has some allies in the management team, so my guess is that he just got into trouble but is still working there.

The dude is probably having the worst days in his professional life. I doubt he really feels like updating all his online credentials atm. It is not like he is... always online.

Where the hell would sweet billy come from anyway?

His name isn't William, where did he get Billy from? Detective GAF, get on it.

Have there been any more sources indicated he was really fired? One source from one site I'm not at all familiar with doesn't seem like a done deal.

Do we know this to be true, because one redditor said it?
Well that Redittor really did his homework because Orth posted on this forum, exactly once, a long time ago, using 'sweet billy' as a user name.

I need to know this! How does someone named Adam decide that their nickname is going to be "Sweet Billy." It's not even a cool nickname. This is the missing piece of the puzzle here folks!

See that just asumes MS is an evil entity doing things out of spite. An offline customer isn't worth having, but keeping a customer in their marketplace is worth it. XBL is already built around keeping you exposed to as much advertisement and content as possible. With an online only console, they bring this model to it's next logical evolution.

If choosing between a conspiracy and a stupidity theory and there's a politician involved, choose stupidity.
If there's a business mogul involved, choose conspiracy.

It's from a band, as another gaffer informed me. Sweet billy pilgrim.

Makes sense if he played bass in weezer I guess, but might also be a reference to Slaughterhouse 5 which it says the band name is from.

He's going to look silly when he takes it down. Especially since that's the exact place where he was busted, where people are hitting F5, and where he ran away from. I'm sure he's going to wait for some heat to die down and then muster some liquid courage before going back.

2. If I were fired why would I want to pretend I'm still working there. I'd be po'd and remove it ASAP.
It's not about "pretending he still works there", it's just one of the unpleasant things he needs to deal with.

3. If I'm Microsoft and I just fired someone for breaking am nda or whatever, I believe my legal department would be ensuring he removes any public associations with the company.
If companies had time-sensitive detailed instructions on what specific activities to perform on social media sites (after being fired, even), then guys like this wouldn't be destroying their careers.

To get to where he is in the company probably has some allies in the management team, so my guess is that he just got into trouble but is still working there.
So you don't believe that videogame journalists have sources close to the situation, who report that he's been fired... because you don't believe that executives get fired for public meltdowns?

Still weird, thats like me choosing my nickname to be Jay-Z.

Besides anyone who chooses their own nickname is without a fault, a cunt. Life has taught me that.

I still can't believe that a grown man would insist that others call him "Sweet Billy".

*knocks on office door*

"Hey Mr.Orth I have those quarterly results you were asking- "

"Uh ehem!"

"*sigh* I have those reports...Sweet Billy"

"UH EHEM"

"......My sweet billy....."

"That will be all"

I used to work in an office where a manager went by Steve. In real life his name was Jeffrey and their were 2 real Steves that worked there under him. He convinced the 2 real Steves to go by their middle names, Tim and Jack, so as to avoid confusion.

He was a total d-bag.

yup, pretty much everything about the console feature wise is probably centered around that idea.

Also, drinking game idea for the 720 reveal. Take a shot every time someone says the word "connected".

j/k, I don't want to be responsible for people dying.

Love drinking games. I'll join.

Wow. I would have told him to go fuck himself and use his real name since it was my legal damn name..
