Also, damn, so many titles with "Death/Dead"...

edit: Oh, Shovel Knight passed as well. Of course, with the successful KS it was to be expected. Really looking forward for that one.

It's very accurate, probably the most accurate surgery game of all time. If your wife wants to learn how to perform a brain transplant, she should definitely buy this game.

And for anyone too lazy to click on the trailer and watch, I'll give you the key to a successful brain transplant:

Place your hand on the brain and pull.

If you consider yourself a fan of classic FPS gameplay and can overlook the uninspired hub-based and quest-based game structure that is peppered with light RPG elements (namely loot, which is only good to sell), the answer is yes. It's very much an id game with poorly-conceived modern trimmings, but for some -- like myself, for instance -- just the former is enough.

Also terrible vehicles and annoying as hell texture pop-in.

But for 3.25, its worth it for curiosity sake alone.

People love the shootbang aspect of it. I was disappointed.

You gotta smash the skull open with an axe first, though.

Which is more difficult than it sounds. Because you must train to strike just the right balance. Too softly, and they'll have a nasty bump on their noggin when they awaken. Too hard... Well, let's not even think about that one.

What's the best Gamepad I can get considering that I hate that Xbox controller and love the PS3 controller, and I can't get the *actual* PS3 controller to work on Windows 7?

I didn't think to mention the vehicle gameplay since all but one or two of the races are optional and vehicles are otherwise only used for traversal (though I suppose even when moving from point to point you have to put up with the occasional bandit). Texture pop-in can be mitigated or even cured if you're blessed, but it's true that the game is very temperamental in that regard (I was lucky, experiencing virtually no pop-in after upgrading to the latest drivers at the time of release and a later patch eradicated it entirely).

Come to think of it, I haven't played the game since upgrading GPUs. I still need to play the DLC, so I'll find out eventually if the game still wants to play nicely with my system.

Edit: For reference, to combat texture pop-in, update to the latest drivers if need be, see the portion of this OP labelled "Blurry Textures and Texture Popping" and ensure you're not forcing AA/AF via your driver control panel. Nvidia GPU users can also use vt_useCudaTranscode 2 to maximise CUDA core utilisation when transcoding textures. (Whether or not any of this helps is for fate to decide.)

logitech f710 or the wired version. You should probably try the PS3 controller again before buying anything.

I finally bought Antichamber. Looked really interesting when it released earlier this year but price was just too much for me, so I decided to wait for the sales. I don't really even know if this game is good at all, but since I don't really have high expectations it will probably be better than I expect.

I haven't tried fixing the texture pop-in. In the vanilla steam install it is atrocious and constant.
The vehicles just feel cheap and bring down the game for me. Even though I only really use them as point-to-point and the occasional combat they are late 90s levels of bad and are hard for me to overlook.
Guns feel nice.

I just don't get why the game has a reason to exist unless you are really into shooter mechanics. Graphically it is not that impressive even overlooking the texture pop-in. It doesn't do anything new or noteworthy with setting, gameplay style, or mechanics. It just is.
Given the hype and the pedigree I felt really let down. These are the people who brought me Doom and Quake. I liked Borderlands more than this and that just should not be the case.

:(

edit: not trying to dissuade you from purchase. Even with that in mind, it is certainly worth 3.75 pounds.

I'd agree that Rage's most fundamental flaw is its identity crisis. At the core of the game is a fine FPS of old, but it's obfuscated by poorly-conceived modern game design tropes that, for many like yourself, greatly weigh down the overall experience.

Yeah, that is a great way of putting it.

id should be innovating, not playing catch-up. That is what stings me the most.

I lost interest after only a couple hours. I love a good shootin' game but I'm so over driving buggies around barren wastelands. And there's so much of it, too. The quest design also seemed pretty lousy, there were fetch missions inside of fetch missions. I wish I could just cut out all that shit and play it as a linear shooter.

If anyone is interested in Sacred Citadel I can confirm that it is pretty cool. Very fluid and reasonably complex combo system for a beat em up. It doesn't give a very good first impression since your dudes fairly slow and lumbering and the enemies are a bit repetitive, but once I got the hang of things I am starting to pull of combos that look like they belong in a fighting game and the enemies are getting a lot more diverse. For a point of reference, if Guardian Heroes didn't have lanes, then it wouldn't be totally unlike this game.

Music ain't great though, it's kinda tribal drum dubstep.

<inevitable "greenlight is rigged" comment here>

EDIT: ok, I will just say this. I really don't see the point to greenlight titles VERY far from release and that will obviously be released on steam at some point (see Dreamfall chapters, the prequels are there, why wouldn't it release on steam?). I really hope the whole Greenlight thing gets revised because as things are now, I really don't see the point. But that's me.

Although Doom 4's development has supposedly been, shall we say, less than smooth, Carmack decreeing that "Doom is about two things: demons and shotguns" fills me with hope.

Yeah, I can see being happy with that but I personally want more from them. I want them to push the genre like they used to. Hell they invented the FPS. I want to see that kind of innovation from them again.

I don't want id to be a one-note nostalgia act that continually releases ever more polished versions of the same thing they've already done.
