Astonished by the number of people in the "it's not that bad" camp. How could it be much worse?!

You are kindly permitted to give your game away to one person, knowing that you can never have it back. Wow, thanks Microsoft. I know I should be grateful, but not half as grateful that people in my living room can play on my console too! Woop woop! :/

Blind brand loyalty is the only explanation for cheering on a company bending you over like this.

Used games are done, GAF. We need to forget about them.

"modern, connected device"

Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

too modern for me, I'll pass

I guess I'm pretty dumb - why is anyone bothering comparing this to Steam? Did I miss the part where Microsoft said they'll be having huge sales?

Hey remember when they said that they "We're listening" and then didn't change anything. Good ol' Microsoft.

I think they meant they were "listening" about the fact that they needed to clarify this shit

here it is, clarified! Surprise motherfuckers, worst console ever confirmed! lol

And you can play Steam indefinitely offline.

I buy all my games second-hand a little while after they come out for less than half the price new. I won't be touching this with a barge-pole.

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

After all this time, this still cracks me up. I just can't believe that it's now an official statement on their website. Just unreal.

Bought the Xbox and the 360 at launch... loved so many games... but no way in hell im buying this. 24h check? can't borrow games? publisher can block me from selling? WTF!! They can announce all the exclusive games they want, I don't care anymore. I'm out.

And if PS4 is the same crap, then fuck this gen!

On a second read this sounds worse than before.

Whereas before it sounded like resale would be permitted universally, albeit through Microsoft's drm-ed up system, it now sounds like there are two possibilities: not allowed at all, or through that same system. Depending on the publisher.

MS not taking a cut on trades is a concession, but there'll still be a fee to be paid by retail, to publishers. Business terms are between pub and retail.

Yup, the "used game fee" sounds like it'll be baked in.

I don't get it so if a family member buys a game I can access it with my account and play it like I own it. Or is microsoft saying ten family members share an account?

Highlights:

-10 family members can play any of my "shared" games on any console. :O. That's fuckin nuts (depending on what shared means)
-Day 1 digital copies. Usually go for retail but this is still cool as an option
-Anyone can play my games on my console. Expected. Sad that this had to be cleared up though
-I can store games on the cloud and play them wherever I sign into my account. That's pretty awesome.
-I don't need to swap discs to play different games. Pretty sick. I usually buy disc copies of games so now I can buy them and keep them on my shelf.

Lowlights:
-Game reselling is on a case by case basis it seems
-Giving games to friends thing is so bizarre.

Indifferent:
-Must be signed in at least once every 24 hours to play games. If my internet goes down, then I'm not playing my Xbox 360. This is really not a big deal for me at all. In fact, if requiring internet makes my gaming experience better in most games then I'm all for it.

This is just how it will affect me. I don't know how it will affect other people around the world.

Even if they'll accommodate the big pubs that want it with some PS3-like method (small pubs may opt out if given the choice or if Sony does it PS3 DRM-style, I think, just like the small ones stayed away from online passes etc.), unless it was an online game (like an MMO or the online portion of a game), wouldn't it have to be a more roundabout DRM method rather than this since Sony's got a lot more markets with very limited internet, hence their already making sure to get the word out that internet is not a PS4 requirement?

The problem here is that EA and MS are doing the DRM thing. I'm finding it pretty hard to believe that EA would release a game on Xbox One that has DRM and release it on PS4 without DRM.

I love that some people on here are happy that their rights are being taken away. You've bought their deception and are like 'wow, i can share my games wooooo'.

It is going to be interesting to see how these policies will be explained to the normal consumer. I can see a lot of confused buyers in the future.

Also didn't Sony say they were going to leave the decision of used games up to each publisher individually?

what if i sell my game to a friend on my friends list and then we have a falling out and i remove him? does it fuck his shit up?

I can see myself auctioning games on eBay 2 weeks before they are released, adding the winning bidder to my friends list then sending him the game after 30 days.

I actually do think that's a reasonable desire to have, I just would rather GameStop came to an arrangement with publishers there rather than some DRM system that carries too many stipulations to screw people over.

Honestly. I feel like Jaffe's idea is an excellent compromise for the situation. No need to fuck up the consumers for more than 1-2 months post-release, when that composes the only time that actually matters to publishers

That's terrible. I really think we cannot understand how terrible this is, because the changes in gaming/online gaming/DRM have come slowly over the years. But let's look at it objectively. It's horrible.

What in the world do they mean by "access to your shared library from any xbox"?

If I went to a friend's house and wanted to access my game library on his xbone, wouldn't I need to also bring my entire library of discs over and install every game onto his hard drive, taking up space?

Or would I need to call in advance some hours/days before going over? "Hey man, could you download a few of my 20GB games onto your xbone from the store before I come over so I can access my library?"

Or does MS already have a gaikai-like streaming service/technology already implemented and ready to go?
