This is Splinter Cell: Blacklist's Perfectionist Mode

"it's perfect"

*points out spotty unfair stealth fuckups later in video*

lol IGN. At least this dude is getting plenty of experience for his eventual dev PR rep gig.

I can't watch the video at the minute, but I assume they've excised Mark and Execute along with additional HUD elements like sight line indicators right?

First, great username.

Second, guy sounds a little too enthusiastic using "a stealth masterpiece" in a video preview. If that's the case, I expect a 10/10. Don't give it an 8 in a month after you jizzed this hard during previews, y'know?

I hope this is a good faith move on Ubisoft's part, and the game is actually designed to be played without the abilities that are disabled in that mode.

And I'm guessing it'll break the game, due to it being designed around the easier modes, just like Hitman Absolution's "Purist" mode, which was absolute horseshit because you couldn't even see how much instinct you had left, which was fucking required for keeping up disguises.

Yeah. In Hitman Absolution, the game felt kind of broken when I turned off features the game was clearly designed around.

Looks good to me. I'm usually a perfectionist when it comes to this franchise (Where 'Perfectionist' = reload save repeatedly as I get caught sneaking around and shot in the face), so it feels like they accommodating all play styles.

Still not sure whether PC or XBox 360 is the best bet for me personally (All my friends will want to do co-op on XBox 360). Will see how that plays out.

First I've seen of this game. Err... why does it look so bad? It looks barely any better than Chaos Theory did on my PC all those years ago.

The footage was probably taken from the console version. The PC version utilizes DX11 and TXAA. In fact it there's a partnership with Nvidia that includes a free copy of the game with select 7 series cards. I don't think they would of made such a deal if the graphics were terrible.

Game is not looking good.

That's what I was about to say. That 360 footage looked kinda ugly in terms of textures and even some of the lighting. I think we're getting to the point where developers are making too many compromises to get stuff running on current gen hardware.

And in most of the clips there I saw possibilities for Sam to avoid enemies entirely, which is how I'll try to play the game... If I even play singleplayer.

I'll rent Blacklist to check and see if Spies vs Mercs isn't bullshit. If it isn't I'll buy the PC version somewhere down the line.

To recap, Perfectionist mode has:
  • no mark & execute
  • can't see through walls with sonar goggles
  • high stealth and combat difficulty
  • no restocking at supply crates

Sounds great for those of you wanting more old school SC.

Sounds like those Hitman Absolution 'hardcore modes', which were awful.

They've been iterating on the same engine for a while now, which has UE2 origins. Yes, UE2 origins.

At least it should run extremely well on the PC.

Pointing out AI glitches somehow doesn't seem like the greatest idea to hype up a game, IGN.

In all fairness it's cool of Ubi to at least include this mode. Perhaps the game might be worth a try after all now that I don't have to gung ho my way through a level shooting people in the head left and right.

I gradually have grown more optimistic for this one after first impressions left me wanting. It has just looked better and better.

Sounds like it could be good, then again we could have a Hitman situation on our hands where the game wasn't designed with this mode in mind and sucks playing it this way.

Why does this game look so rough around the edges? Shouldn't it be heading into gold right now?

Because the stuff disabled in Blacklist Perfectionist mode are helpers and the underlying stealth game parts aren't (supposed to be) balanced or designed around requiring them.

Mark and Execute: you can still mark; you can even execute with the stun gun in regular modes, and it literally is its own devoted button on a controller. So in the worst case it literally is an auto-aim button you have to earn.

Sonar goggles: same with marking enemies; if they did their job right then information should be presented to the player properly (e.g. other ways to observe patrol patterns) making this moot.

No restocking: means your equipment choices mean more when they also dictate how much ammo/gadgets you can carry into a mission.

You also pretty much die in one hit 99% of the time. Also it's plainly obvious they were going full speed crouched which means they will hear you coming from behind. The solution is to KO them or die.

Perfectionist takes exactly what I really don't need and see no point in a Splinter Cell game, but however, even after with all of these "features" off, after looking in this video, the detection system of your enemies that spots you is way to sensitive and that bothers me a lot, force me or giving me some restrictions to take him out only through few ways, like running around to get behind him all the time, always could make the mission a failer cause who knows how fast that dectection starts and when. Who knows how many times I have to repeat that to succeed.

It was much nicer and funny back then when the guardian was passing by through a corridor and you were hiding in the dark, leaning on one of side of the wall.
For the detection system, I remember in first Splinter Cell when any guardian who has seen you in the light was saying first "Who's there ?" and then approaching towards in step-by-step silence just to verify "something is there".

At least here, is enough to just see me and start shooting. They are always in the look out on you.

Most of the videos where people are getting detected/spotted from sneaking behind are because they are going full barrel while crouched instead of slowing down as they get closer. That means the AI can hear footsteps.

The AI also has a bunch of stages of suspicion from other hands-on previews so they don't go batshit alert immediately unless you do something that gives them that reason, like sneaking up behind them really loud.

Execute is disabled, you can still mark enemies for visibility. At some point I could swear perfectionist had a condition that you could only melee AI from behind but I guess they removed it.

Interesting development but it's such a late reveal. Did they seriously just add this last minute? It's like they tried to ignore the "less action more stealth" talk from their youtube vids for as long as possible. After months of weak hype, they've begun shoehorning in the basics of a classic stealth game.

They revealed this months ago.

they mention in the video there's dudes with armour you can only attack from behind. Maybe that's what you were thinking of?

They spoke about no frontal melee in perfectionist period before really showing the heavy, so they could've gone back on it. Heavy from behind/above still stands though.

Game looks much better than the previous one surprisingly, hadn't expected that. Might give it a try a few month after its release.

I hate that you can stealth kill from the front. It's fucking dumb. Stealth kills should only be from behind, below or above.

oh yeah, this.

They just want to trick the fans of the original Splinter Cell into buying this.
