Thanks for the recommendations guys, will add people now ;)

Woahhh I was out for 2 days and so much happened hehe but did not expect Sine Mora at all. Shame the port seems to be f*** up I thought the Japanese start to appreciate the iOS better. Maybe we just need to wait for the patches and the external controller.

Also Im already in love with Rymdkapsel - it looks like what I hoped Star Command to be can't wait!

iOS's getting lots of good stuff recently I mean I'm waitig now for the Just Dance port!

While we are at the topic of CAVE games, which one would you particularly recommend? I only played amazing Sin and Punishment games but they seem to be very different from their other releases.

3) Remove letterboxes on an iPhone 5's 16:9 screen, there are more elegant solutions to this touch control scheme than a row of buttons on the bottom..

Thanks for saving me money, luckily as soon as I read PittaGAF's mention of a virtual joystick I knew I'd better stay the fuck away. I'm a shmup nut so this is a bummer, hopefully they'll fix this wreck (and no GC? gtfo)

*BUT* the game's aspect ratio has always been 2.35:1 (CinemaScope) so you'll always get black bars on 1.77:1 (16/9) screens. They can't change that unless they completely rethink he game, bullet patterns etc.
They can stick some png background in there (which I always get rid of when playing vertical shmups not in TATE mode anyway) but that's it.

Besides that, everything else you mention is fair game and inexcusable this day and age on iOS, even without takin into account the premium price.

Hey PittaGAF buddy, I honestly love how enthusiastic and easy to please you seem to be, I mostly find your impressions very useful but whenever you stray from factual to dive into opinion territory, well... damn you become the GAF version of TouchArcade, you seem to love everything, always! :D
Maybe try to be a little bit more critical if possible, just my two cents of course :)

Sin & Punishment is by Treasure, not Cave. S&P2, which is one of the best games on Wii and without a doubt one of the genre's true masterpieces, is an entirely different beast from Cave's stg output which is usually referred to as 2D bullet hell shmups.

While I find all of their iOS games, except Bug Panic (which is not a bullet hell), absolutely fantastic, Cave's best on iOS and good starters for the uninitiated, are in my opinion Dodonpachi Resurrection (HD) and Bug Princess 2.
You can download the Lite versions for free which are very short but you can get a rough idea on what all the fuss is about after you multiply x1000 the oomph! of those über short demoes :)
Remember that in Cave's iOS shmups the gameplay modes offer two radically different experience with Smartphone mode and Arcade (original) mode, both are a blast to play and worth your time.
Also be sure to go into options and set Screen's option to Medium or Large as per your liking. They are expensive games which very rarely (less than once per year iirc) drop 50% at the most, but they're worth every penny and more if you don't just credit feed to beat the game once and never touch it again. Hope this helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't played this game before, but isn't it a 3D rendered game as opposed to sprite-based like Cave's games? Wouldn't that make it easy to scale the resolution accordingly?

It's a matter of visible play field. They could implement something similar to what Strania does but I dpfind that very distracting. Making the play field bigger would mean the ship would have more upper and bottom escape zones, and it'd need to modify enemy/bullet patterns accordingly.

LOL.
To be honest...I played Sine Mora all night long and I'm really enjoying it.
The garbage chute part is damn difficult, maybe the controls could be more precise, graphics will be sure better on other platform I do not have (so I do not care) but I'm having a real blast.
I even re downloaded some Cave lite versions (which I still think they look like crap) and Darius Burst (which I loved last year but now, even if freaking fast and with close to perfection controls really pales near Sine Mora).
I'm not a shoot em up fanatic but I like to play one once in a while and Sine Mora is pretty great for me....I'm playing for the story and the art...I couldn't care less about score or precision so being able to continue without being frustrated is ok for me.
I find much more offensive the lack of iCloud and GC.

Next week on the 22nd there is a new Double Fine game coming out and iOS is one of the platforms it will be coming to. It's called Dropchord and is a "music-based score attacke" game. No price as of yet.

Giant Bomb quick look from back in May featuring Ryan. :-(

http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-ex-dropchord/2300-7328/

That shows the Leap Motion version but it gives you an idea as to what to expect.

Isn't Double Fine The Cave supposed to be out soon in iOS too?
Have you any news about that too, by any chance?

Just finished The Fall. It may not be perfect, but IMO they nailed the HR experience, and it felt like an extension of that game. I ran around a city investigating stuff, doing sidequests, finding alternate routes to objectives, hacking and exploring, etc. There's so much hidden stuff, lots of emails to be read and loot to be collected.

I took the stealth route most of the time, and got the pacifist achievement. AI was very predictable, but then again, HR's AI wasn't really that good. Also, the game doesn't mess around. If you get caught, you can die in 2 seconds. Overall, this was an enjoyable 5-hour experience. Looking forward to the next episode.

Great thank you! For some reason I always confuse the two companies - also now the Treasure is co-owned by Nintendo it's hard to expect them to release anything on iOS.
I don't expect graphical fidelity of Sine Mora (which some of my friends I think were quite disappointed about as shmup fans) but a decent solid game in this genre. Though I'm being a noob in the genre and the myriad of random bullets scares me. Ill need to check at least one out :)

Looks great. It's not really music based not even to extent let's say Lumines was but still looks like fun. I need more games like this on iOS. (Devs of Gauge should've updated their game to widescreen :( )

I don't know whether to congratulate you or to consult a mental health professional. How's your neck doing? Got a full on hunchback going yet?

Haha I literally played at any free time I had and focused on completing missions as quickly as I could. I also ran the coin magnet and lucky last gadgets.

Since I only spent .99 on the game, that's a damn good price:play time ratio!

The Alpaca Evolution "game" is so ridiculous. I love it. The evo descriptions are ace, I just wish the creature's little remarks were also translated.

I'm on level 8. Great "touch this for 5 seconds" app when I'm waiting for something to load or whatever. It got an update this weekend with rare evolutions, no idea how they work though.

Say what you want about controls, but Sine Mora is simply amazing.
I finally got past that damn garbage chute and made my way past world 4 and 5.
Besides the graphics and all, I really like how they were able to keep things fresh in a so old genre.
Some bosses are incredible...when I took down Papa Carlo I yelled out loud :D
If you like shooters be sure to get the game on your platform of preference (so according to Tunesmith, much more expert than me, on PC probably if you can).
Personally, I wasn't so compelled by a shooter since Uridium or R-Type.

To be honest I still think there are some (unnerving) huge difficulty spikes, but every death I suffered was my fault, not the controls.
Proof was that, after some pratice, I was able to breeze after the parts I was stuck for hours yesterday (I did that damn garbage chute part 4 times in a row today, all at first attempt).

On the other hand, being the ship speed fixed (not progressive as in many other shooters with relative controls I tried on iOS) several times I lost some power ups...I do not know if a different control method would help (devs are saying no to relative controls for this precise reason, but I'm not convinced...I put more trust in Tunesmith or Dash Kappei :p)

I'm not a genre fanatic, and I understand this could be a real dealbreaker for many, but controls are ok for me...and they let me enjoy a title I wouldn't if not on iOS.
(This doesn't mean things cannot be improved, by any means).

I really like this 'time' mechanic...I realized after a while I was playing 'the wrong way'...paying too much attention to avoid bullets.
The game instead urges you to find the right balance between destroying things and getting hit, to keep your 'time gauge' always over zero.

All of that was on normal...I tried the score attack mode and I last like 10 seconds :p

UNFORTUNATELY, the story is still unintellegible for me...which is weird because I thought it was one of the plus of the game.
I just have a vague idea of what is going on, but every world changing leaves me with a WTF expression, story wise.
This, so far, was the biggest let down togheter with lack of GC and iCloud sync (even if, to be honest, I do not think I would play that much on the smaller screen).

Congrats man! That's some hard work.

One of the best and most satisfying games on iOS. I paid full price just about a month back, but no regrets. It's worth every penny, even if it's basically a failure simulator for me. I am just not good at keeping my people from starving.

Does it play well, and is the text big enough, on iPhone/Touch?

Man, Sine Mora port was so great on Vita... I actually pressed that Buy/5.99 button on my phone without even thinking. Then when it asked for password, I stopped and realized I should at least read *something* about it first. I'm happy that I did. No buy until they implement cave-like control scheme.

According to Toucharcade and the dev's Facebook, Breach and Clear will be launching at $1.99

Awesome. Instant purchase for me, got to support devs who release premium IOS games

Yep, seems like they have a long term plan for this game, and although it may be a MilSpec version of Xcom / FS that's fine and dandy in my book.

I like FS, but the Spec Ops atmosphere and the breach/clearing aspect of B&C appeals to me a lot more

Plus it's the closest I can get to old school Rainbow Six on IOS.

$2 is a premium game? I'm not quite as optimistic. The game looks interesting, but it was developed as a F2P game and only changed to a paid app late in development. Considering they are only charging $2, I'm worried it will still be full of IAP and eventually go free... We'll see.

McPixel is 99 cents
Rope'n'Fly 3 - From Dusk Till Dawn is 99 cents

Would one be inclined to forgo a pack of chewing gum to partake in the above apps?

After playing Jewel Mania for 3 months my wife finally agreed to to switch her gaming focus to new puzzle game :) Right now I'm thinking about Peggle HD but I'm open to suggestions.

I just did for McPixel. Actually saw it on sale on Steam first but it seems a better fit for playing on the go.

Iesabel has made me consider revisiting an old favorite that I never finished. I encourage anyone who likes these Diablo style hack-n-slash games to try one of the absolute best underrated gems on the system. I daresay I like it a more than Orc...

Pocket RPG.

Why is the Twitch app such dogshit? It feels like such a missed opportunity unless the number of users is so low they don't care?

Earlier in the year it didn't work at all, black video and no chat, now video works for minutes at a time and they removed the ability to search. So say I'm on Twitter and someone is like "hey, i'm streaming this thing you care about on twitch, come watch!", you have to go to the website, which every time annoys you to download the app instead of just opening the app, and hit follow on that user, then log in again because it never remembers you, but even logging in is difficult because the hit boxes are fucked on safari so you have to jank your way through it with the next button, then follow the user, open up the twitch app then hopefully they'll show up on your following feed.

Last night I was trying to watch EVO and after every 10 minutes the video would just go black and I would have to hit play/pause. Why does it have to be so frustrating.

Due to a gifting mistake I made last month, I ended up with an extra FFT code for the Canadian App Store that I'd like to sell.

Is anyone interested in buying Final Fantasy: Tactics for iPad for %50 off?

The game currently costs $17.99, but I'm selling it for $8.99 cause I bought this code during the last sale.

If you're interested please send me a PM and we can arrange something through Paypal. Again, please note this is for the Canadian App Store only.
