Jesus the Grammy's fucking suck. I couldn't make it through 2 categories before having to quit due to crimes against good sense.

POP PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP WITH VOCAL
* "Hey There Delilah" - Plain White T's; Track from: "Every Second Counts" [Hollywood Records] [Interscope Records]

This always bugs me. I understand that Plain White T's are a group (which I find to be half decent actually, though this song sounds nothing like any of their other songs). HOWEVER, this song features just their lead singer and a guitar, which he also plays. This song should not be eligible for this category based on the fact that there is only one performer.

Also, these Grammy noms suck almost uniformly.

Feist is new?

MTV's equivalent award is called "breakthrough artist". The Grammy's should rename theirs, seeing as this is what their "new" artist award is actually for. This happens every year. New to the mass market ≠ new to music.

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Okay, at least 2 of the 5 dance singles actually ARE dance songs this time, that's gotta be a step up from the typical Grammy which usually gives pop/rap/r&b singles nominations in the dance category. Surprised EOL was nominated for best dance album, I'd argue that it's Tiesto's weakest artist album.

Garbage in Garbage out...

although I do hope Winehouse wins both because I kind of like her and she's the most likely to do something bat-shit insane.

:lol

Every year, the Grammy nominations are so ... special. I don't see how any honest music lover can honestly say these artists represent the best music had to offer in 2007. The "Dance Album" nominees are the only ones that even approach relevance.

:lol at "This is ouuuurrrr country" being nominated, that's a good one.
The biggest irony of that song are the lines,
And I can stand beside
The idea to stand and fight
When Mellencamp is a staunch pacifist, and believes that we shouldn't have even retaliated against Japan for Pearl Harbor, much less attack the Taliban in Afghanistan after 9/11 :lol

does anybody consider the grammys anything more than utterly meaningless?

It's not a music award ceremony it's a sales conference.

"And here are the nominees for the best and highest selling album of the year."

One category isn't as fucked up at least:

Best Alternative Music Album
(Vocal or Instrumental.)

Alright, Still...
Lily Allen
[Capitol Records]

Neon Bible
Arcade Fire
[Merge Records]

Volta
Bjork
[Elektra/Atlantic]

Wincing The Night Away
The Shins
[Sub Pop]

Icky Thump
The White Stripes
[Third Man/Warner Bros.]

I wouldn't mind an arcade fire or shins win for that.

I like the Foos but the new album blows. I knew that 07 was a bad year for music, but yikes. Happy to see all the Justice love though.

Dr. Strangelove

I'M COOCOO FOR COCO CRISP!
Wow, that list is so terrible I think it just gave me cancer.

2007 was not a bad year for music. In fact, it was quite great.

PS - Justice fucking sucks.

I'm a huge tool fan and i hope they win (which they wont), but geezus christ fuck, wtf grammy's. I find it funny they are nominated though since they havent really had a "real" single released, first clip for the first single comes out in 2 weeks and it isn't the song nonimated :lol .

I loved how Fountains of Wayne were nominated for Best New Artist after being a band for what, six years? And how the lead singer had been previously nominated for an ACADEMY FUCKING AWARD three or four years before that.

How is D.A.N.C.E nominated for best dance album?

Also, I think even people who liked Hey There Delilah (a song released in 2005 btw) on its radio run are sick of it now. What's the point?

Why is "Blackout" not on the list for best pop album! WTF!

Did ITZ get nominated? I'm pretty sure BOMT, Oops, and Britney all did, but I forget about ITZ.

Either way, yeah, it's a definite shame it won't receive that deserved recognition.
