Maybe try buying a Geforce 7800 and then using SSAA, which is supposed to blur the aliased edges of textures with transperancies.

I don't think that is his problem, I think his problem is the same as min. I usually use 1600X1200, going back to 800X600 is very noticeable. That said, just keep playing it and don't play any other game at high resolutions for a while and you won't notice it that much.
