No I don’t get the appeal of these endless multiplayer shooters. The novelty of BF wore off after I played the first game back in the early 00s.

I think they delayed the release also so it's not Black Friday fodder as it'll have just been released so close to BF.

I'm saying NO, but god damn I'm starving for some solid FPS action and the beta warts and all was stupid fun.

Last gen's Battlefields (4, 1, V) were painful to witness being a hardcore fan of the franchise since 1942. Just awful games that simply were not fun to play.

2042 had a really good initial reveal with the news of dropping campaign and bringing back BF3 and BC2 maps and classes.
Then the horrific beta deflated all hype. Betas are betas but the gameplay was bad and the map design was worse than ever. Specialists essentially turn Battlefield into a Hero shooter for some reason.

I refuse to believe the custom gamemode Portal will save the game - and I refuse to believe Portal will be balanced correctly. Relying on the community to make good servers usually never works - the BF community is too splintered. What I think is a good Battlefield might not for the next person.

2042 will be $20 in no time.

I'll play the Game Pass Ultimate trial and upgrade to EA Play Pro after 10 hours. If I'm still playing the game regularly after a month (and I'm sure I will be) I'll keep my Pro sub or buy the Ultimate Edition.

Battlefield is not a competitive FPS and never has been.

Waiting for reviews and impressions as it will probe quite buggy. I don't get hyped enough for MP shooters these days as I don't have time to invest countless hours into it... and BF games usually require many many hours to unlock stuff and get good.

If it was Bad Company 2 remake or BC3 then I would :messenger_beaming:

My days of giving money to DICE for Beta testing their games, are long gone.

There hasn't been a single BF game that hasn't needed at least 6-12mths worth of post release patches, to get them in a fit & proper state.

I stopped buying games at launch years ago, they are never ready, almost always require 2-3 patches to get to a desirable state.

As much as the ability to patch remotely was a boon, it was a curse, as it gave developers too much room for 'it works well enough, push it out and get paid'.

i buy modern battlefields most at 10 bucks with premium included a year in or something. They discount fast. What i saw from the beta was a pretty big mess of a game. There new DLSS trailer running at sub 30 fps was also something that didn't inspire me much to get it.

I honestly do think the game will move to a free to play model 6 months in, or have steep discounts at that time, i will be waiting for that unless i get bored of my current games. But frankly after what i saw i could just boot up bf3/4 and have the same experience mostly and frankly i can't be bothering even playing those games at this point anymore.

So i will skip it unless the price goes drastically down to 10 bucks or something, or even free to play. I think the free to play solution would be a better solution for the BF series.

Nope. From what I've seen and played it felt like a loveless asset flip made for mobile devices.
Not my Battlefield anymore. (Loved BF2 & 3 though)

I never pre-order games anymore and I was pretty drunk when I pre ordered this but I did enjoy the Beta so I'll keep it. I've enjoyed all their more modern day shooters so I still have hopes this will be good

I'll wait till it doesn't run like shit anymore and then I check out reviews or how many of my friends play that.
They view this with a grain of salt as well tho. Probably a pass.

If I had the time/money I probably would.

But my backlog is already stupidly large and I'm already into WZ which is already free.

In a perfect world I would though. Who knows how my PC would run it too, that doesn't help. I can do WZ at 4k 60 with a cocktail of medium, high, and maxed settings but with PCs you never know what you're gonna get. No fucking clue how mine would handle this game.

I would go down to 1440p 165 Hz if I were you.

The first thing I thought when I saw the BF5 trailers was...it just looks like BF4 with a lick of paint.

I liked BF4, put plenty of hours into it but stopped when the server selection seemed to begin & end at the 'Metro' map, people just wanting to use it as a way of levelling up quickly by camping the usual couple of choke points.

I dunno, it is £48 on ebay at the moment which is kind of tempting me. Maybe I'll pre-order and use the GamePass early access to check out if it's still ass, then cancel.

I'll try it out with the trial thing, but probably not. The one thing I really noticed since the beta was all them BF YouTubers are running serious damage control videos for DICE. These assholes are not subtle at all.

Nah. I'll wait and see what reviews say, but I have my fair share of BR with Warzone. And it runs at 120fps on Ps5/Series X. I get that BF2042 is more advanced, etc but I prefer fluidity of higher fps when I can get it.

And yes- I will be building a PC when prices and stock normalize... someday.

Was a massive BF fan, but have been brunt before with day 1 purchases. Not falling for that trap any more. Still enjoy the games, but not pre-order level of enjoyment.

Was going to jump in day 1. Absolutely loved the beta, however a few additional expenses this month means I'll have to wait until later. With Halo Infinite dropping next month, I might be stretched too thin to really enjoy both at the same time.

Saw that we're getting a 10 hour trial for Games Pass though, so that will tide me over until late next month :)

Nope. I will wait for a Specialist rework and return to classes.

And until then game will be probably in EA Play and therefore in Game Pass

But it is DICE's fault because I had game preordered. But honestly I never played worse beta then this. For a product that will be released in one month

You're talking about completely different set of modes and rules set up specifically for esports.

Just because some random esports league made up their own for a game doesn't mean the game is competitive by design. The reaching on this one. Rush isn't even the main mode of any of the Battlefields outside of BC1 and 2.

DICE probably isn't even aware this league exist. So yes, if by competitive you mean completely changing the standard mode and player counts, with the addition of a ton of restrictions, then I guess it is.

By that logic you could claim basically any game is competitive.

Yep, I really liked what I saw in their Beta Updates blog post.

The new UI and improvements they held back on for the beta as they weren't finished looked great and is a massive step up from what we got to experience.

The only thing I'm not sold on are the Specialists, but that's pretty much the only thing so far.

For anyone wondering about the changes to UI, the attachment system and more, the blog post has videos - https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/batt...field-briefing-what-we-learned-from-open-beta

That beta was simply put, not fun. I fully expect ea to push this to next year. There is too much cash on the line for them to allow this to bomb

I'm really undecided on what to do.
On the one hand there is the hype for a new BF, playing with friends considering that I have been waiting for such a massive FPS to play with them for a long time, on the other hand there is the experience with BF4 that was truly complete several months after its release, initially there were several bugs perhaps not everyone remembers.
I will wait for the last moment to decide.
