It's May 1st.

Depending on where you live, local businesses to entire cities are going to open again.

Are you ready to go out and support your economy again?

Have already been supporting my local economy when and where possible.

Not all businesses will be opening here, but will likely go around town today to find a joint to spend date night with my wife. And if not, we'll do our regular Friday takeout.

yo honestly it's a relief just to hear

because this corona shit feels horrible and it seems like it's gonna last forever

i want the economy to do well but i also want people to live

whatever ball that gets rolling, i hope we make some good turns

man i just want things to be normal again so bad
When I look back at April, the biggest death traps were actually the Seniors/Retirement Homes.

Once a lot of restaurants and grocery stores began to put up plastic shields and enforce 6 feet of distance, the cases began to drop.

Big crowds should be avoided but that's common sense. Closing down everything right now doesn't actually make me feel any safer.

With 30,000 new cases a day while in lockdown, what could go wrong?

but honestly if we remain judicious and quarantine the olds I think we will be ok :messenger_medmask:

From what I gather thread title is misleading. Most states are still erring on the side of caution, which is the correct choice. To be responsible you should update the OP with facts.

They extended lockdown here in Vegas.

Casinos were going to open tomorrow but Sisolak extending shit means casinos are shutdown until at least June.

Which I did.

Alberta, Canada begins to reopen this month as well as Texas, USA.

Other places are also expected to follow suit.

Why bias everyone’s response from the start by not revealing the scale of the reopening?
Your expectation must bet set to some places being closed forever.
I'm saying, that's not the case and this is the month we are seeing restrictions being lifted on a provincial/state level and ultimately, a federal one.

And the list is getting bigger:

I just want places to stay closed an appropriate amount of time so no more areas turn into hot zones. It’s a very contagious virus and there are still a lot of people walking around who don’t even have enough sense to wear masks.

If you read the plans for each state/province, they already discuss this.

They're not throwing away all safety protocols for this. Everything is being done in waves. For example,

The government is planning a stage-by-stage approach to reopening the economy to ensure there are appropriate measures in place so workplaces can open safely. Public health officials will carefully monitor each stage for two to four weeks, as they assess the evolution of the COVID-19 outbreak to determine if it is necessary to change course to maintain public health.

  • Stage 1: For businesses that were ordered to close or restrict operations, opening select workplaces that can immediately modify operations to meet public health guidance. Opening some outdoor spaces like parks and allowing for a greater number of individuals to attend some events. Hospitals would also begin to offer some non-urgent and scheduled surgeries, and other health care services.
  • Stage 2: Opening more workplaces, based on risk assessments, which may include some service industries and additional office and retail workplaces. Some larger public gatherings would be allowed, and more outdoor spaces would open.
  • Stage 3: Opening of all workplaces responsibly and further relaxing of restrictions on public gatherings.

For me, life in Ontario really hasn't felt that much different aside from no sports on TV. My wife and I still go to work, my son still going to his at home day care. If I need something Walmart is still open and most stores offer curbside pickup. The only real change has been not going to restaurants, which has been a good thing financially because we eat out too much, and my basketball season being cancelled. We still go out almost everyday for family walks.

I'm kind of split on this. I'm worried it will cause a new surge and keep things locked down even longer in larger areas. I know my son's school like many is cancelled the rest of the school year, and I'm on telework at least through May. Lockdown is set up through the middle of this month here in DC. I'd like things to open back up but not so early it causes a second wave.

On the other hand, even as I drive around to get my to-go food orders and curbside pickups, I see tons of people in DC parks and trails with no social distancing and no masks, and I'm wondering if it is even worth it to try at this point. Even those around that are wearing masks by law in places that are open, half of them don't even cover their nose.

My job is maintaining our work-from-home until May 31st at the earliest return date.

I think certain businesses should try to reopen if they can do so safely and without stressing the infrastructure. In some areas with very low number of cases, this means they can reopen the whole city or the whole state. Wuhan flu doesn't affect every part of the world equally.

We’re going camping. That’s 300 miles each way with a trailer, so going to have some stops. There’s an In n Out along the way I will be sure to get my animal fries from.

Doesn’t feel very locked down lately tbh.

The things I want opened up, aside from the beach that opened today, are still closed

Retail has been mostly dead here for years. Really the only thing that's actually changed is going out to eat and going to the gym. And the going out to eat thing isn't that different since they all deliver now.

The gyms probably wont open for another month so nothing really changes for me today.

Most of them are in New York City though.

Why punish states that are less than that?

Unless you block travel from places like that; it'll spread. There's people who will slip through the cracks too. Thats the worst situation; a slow-boil rise in cases leading to a spike.

Gyms and parks are really the only thing I personally miss being able to go.

Were still a few days away, and in my city we are planning to open up about 2 weeks after the rest of the province. I think it will get extended but we will see.

We did a revision on our deaths, and back dated them so this is what we look like

CHLSD + RPA = old age homes.

The deaths in our general population has been decreasing lately and was not that bad overall. In the old age homes though DISASTER.

Just as an example on tracking sites we had 79 deaths, but after putting the proper date on the deaths we drop down to just above 20.

My state is opening a bit, but it wasn’t very closed to begin with. They issued a mandatory stay at home order, but it wasn’t enforced as far as I know. Either way, some businesses closed, others took precautions. I don’t see my family changing anything next week compared to last week anyway.

I went to a Pizza store that was closed for a month but reopened today.

All the workers are now wearing masks and gloves and they put up plastic shields all around the store. They also disinfect the debit card reader when they hand it to you.

I hope to god the dining areas of restaurants and fast food places stay closed. Those are hotbeds of potential carriers and capable of an explosion of infections.

The stores I saw opening up are only doing take-out orders. They flipped the chairs upside down so you can't physically sit down or use the dining area.

It's probably going to be like this for a while until restrictions are lifted on group gatherings.

for me, I just don’t care. I’ll just cook or eat whatever.
I don’t give a shit about take out from restaurants I like.
Going to restaurants and bars was fun! Whether lunch, dinner, or bottomless mimosas for brunch. Getting a random takeout order. Nah....

I never stopped working and have been enjoying the extra 3 hours or so I get back each week from not sitting in traffic.
I am looking forward to gyms reopening and being able to socialize once again soon.
Also I need clothes stores to open ASAP so I can buy some new clothes as after weeks with lack of gym time and comfort/boredom eating I am busting out of my current clothes.

Unfortunately here in São Paulo half of the motherfuckers who live here are not respecting the quarantine so it looks like it's going to be a long while before things get to normal. It was scheduled to get back at May 11 but it has been postponed because idiots are running around everywhere. I'm pissed off.

I want to know how many places will close down again permanently because operating at 25-50% of normal due to physical distancing rules isn't enough to cover monthly expenses.

Every reopening plan I’ve seen has gyms at the final stage, alongside sporting events or concerts. I wouldn’t anticipate going to one very soon. (They are talking a Dec - Feb of next year where I am)

So many restaurants run at thin margins and require turning all tables at least twice a night to run.

I imagine it means Managers having to plan better for half capacity on ordering and staff.

They can make it work if they are good business people. The ones that only know how to plan like they used to and can’t adapt probably shouldn’t have been in that position to begin with and will get discovered soon.

In my country shopping malls are opening tomorrow. Fuck that, I ain't stepping foot in there. I'm glad I don't have any clothing emergencies, because I always want to try clothes in person rather than order them online.

Depends on the day.
Honestly some days I’m fine with this going on for months. I’m getting a crazy amount of unemployment, my gf is my best friend so we are just pallin around the house together. I’m lucky that this has been pretty nice for me.

On the other days I feel the exact opposite. That 260 million facing starvation to save a few million old folks keeps popping into my head and I can’t help but get a little angry that the narrative has flowed towards “Even one death is one death too many”. Like that is not at all realistic and the unintended negative impacts from that perspective may cause death and loss many times greater than the virus itself. And even bringing this up will get you banned from most social media platforms. It’s on these days that I’m fine with a total reopen tomorrow.
