A welcome surprise here on March 65th, or whatever day it is in what I’m fairly certain is the longest month in centuries. After some earlier rumors and datamining speculation, we just got a surprise release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. It’s a big drop from the franchise that just released Warzone a few weeks ago, releasing without any sort of announcement before launch, a strategy that makes sense for this quarantine moment. Here’s what you need to know.

What is it? There are a lot of things with Modern Warfare in the title these days, and it helps to be specific. This is a remaster of the original Modern Warfare 2 campaign, sold as a standalone purchase. Unlike the original Modern Warfare remaster, it will not have a multiplayer mode, according to various leaks.

This is different from what we assume will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the reboot series we started last year, and which is likely still more than a year away.

Is “No Russian” Still In There? When Modern Warfare 2 first came out, it did so with the most controversial scene in the franchise’s history. “No Russian” features a civilian massacre at an airport that the player can choose to participate in or not. It’s still in there, remastered with the rest of it. Some were able to download the game early, so there’s a ton of footage out there.
