Can someone pls tell me why won't the gov just fucking outlaw these bitch ass miners and scalpers?

It's kind of a slippery slope to outlaw selling things privately.

I think retailers need to just get their shit in order. Have a pre-order list that people can get on and just wait, even if it takes months and you're number #100,000 on the list. More aggressive protection measures against bots and buying multiple items on the same CC. It's a retailer issue.

Difficult to make a law that would be able to solve this sitation without fucking over a lot of private rights.

And scalpers aren`t really the issue, mining is.
You can print money with GPUs. If you live anywhere where power isn`t too expensive yet it`s a no brainer.........

There is a very long and complicated reason for this, but the short answer is rich people like money and crypto has enabled already rich people to get richer very quickly with little effort.

These people will share circles, people who on the other hand want a GPU to play games on will most likely not share these same circles.

Why would gov do anything with the miners? They bring the money (at least some from energy and with VAT/CLO of those GPUs), however scalpers on the other hand...

It's crazy to me, that scalpers says in media, how much they made and not being hit by IRS or equivalent.

Will Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, General Motors, Ford, Tesla, Apple, spend some of that money making chip factories please?
Saw an article that HP printer ink said "F" it cause they can't make enough ink chips. We got to protect the printer ink industry everyone.

Because it isn’t illegal and they (thankfully) have better things to do than worry about our gamer cards. Let me know if you have any other questions and have a good weekend.

Regarding scalpers, the one take I agree with is that people who have basically turned scalping consoles/tech into a business should be treated as such. I've often seen the argument that "it's no different than any retailer" when defending scalping, except retailers (including small mom pop shops) have to deal with regulations, permits, sales tax, various fees and legal costs, etc.

So yeah, I don't think they need to be banned nor do I think they should go after someone who has just resold a couple of console to make a quick profit. But these big scalpers that deal with dozens or hundreds of consoles should be treated as the business they are.

When the Bill they passed goes into effect your going to see more cards on the market and less mining happening. Soon.

Soon EU, US & Russia will ban criptomining & you will get used cheep GPU's for almost free.

This is politics.

Just because you don't use your graphics card to do a certain thing doesn't mean that thing should be outlawed because you don't see or understand the value of the thing.

It's unfortunate that a computer component has two valid uses, and one of those uses is driving demand like nothing else before it. Business has been absolutely great for the GPU makers.

Does it suck for us? Yep. But it's making crap loads of money for lots of people, so why shouldn't the GPU makers benefit?

What's next, outlawing the use of CPUs to run unapproved code???

Scalpers and manufacturers/companies that sell these to them should have these cards shoved up their collective assess. With the exception of EVGA I don't think many have taken steps to facilitate single purchases from people that really need these cards.

I don't know the the government won't outlaw posting stupid hit takes on the internet. I guess something other is more important to protect.

What exactly they are doing that is illegal?

I mean it is the same reason the government doesn’t bother with what you do.

You can always live in a socialist county. But people around these countries sometimes have to choose if they eat dinner or have a lunch at noon.

But at least the government will control the price of video card. Just don't expect to be cheaper than what scalper's price.

I could always chime in with econ 101 and 102 basically shows price controls, which is what this is, has a terrible track record. (I encourage everyone who goes to college to please please please take econ 101 and 102.)

Whats next....ban GPU rendering on "gaming" GPUs....if you do GPU rendering you better buy a damn RTX A6000?
Geforce is only for gaming?
Fuck you, ill do what I want with my GPU.

But we should be looking sideways at the PRC right?....Right?

<---- Not a fan of miners making good 500 dollar GPUs a pipedream.

Today an RTX3070 costs more than most powerful PCs cost not long ago.

Thats not gonna happen before the RTX 5000 series of GPUs shows up.

Russia is about to outlaw crypto. Using it as money and mining it. I've said since the beginning that governments should ban crypto, never thought Russia would be leading the way though.

Here is a fun fact for you.
My friend bought one of those Alienware PCs that come with 3090. And guess what ? He sold the pc without the 3090 for 700$ less than what he actually paid for the whole thing.

And guess what ? That card is amazing in terms of heat noise thermal and mining . How do I know ? Because I gave him my 3080 plus 400$ for his 3090 and I am using this card right now for mining to cover the 400$ when I am not playing ( been doing it for 2 weeks now on and off and I already have 50$ back )

You really just need to be smart a little and have a sales person in you and you will get it.

Don’t just go to Amazon or Best Buy website then cry a river

What’s sad is I hate crypto mining ( even though I am doing it on a personal one gpu level )

China, was one of the biggest countries in mining and it got banned there but guess what. Now these people are mining in different countries around the world where they can have access/ travel to .

When you make 2 to 3k a day mining profit .. you really don’t give a shit how much it will cost you to travel and rent a place

You also can’t blame second hand sellers from increasing the prices of their old card. They can’t sell you a 2070 super for 350$ Or 400$ when it’s worth 900$ Now. Because these people also need to pay premium to cover up the scalping the price for when they upgrade.

You do not live in a perfect word where scalping is considered a bad thing and we live in an angelic community that everyone will hold hands and stop it lol

Buy an APU, wait for the market to settle down at some point, enjoy your mediocre performance, or buy a current gen console (Series X/PS5).

The funniest thing about that gif is that the guy really thinks his outrage is doing something as you also think your outrage thread will do something... very meta.

When China banned Mining a flood of 6900;s came back on Newegg among other sites at only slightly inflated prices as apposed to nvidia gpu's that were literally 3x the price.

So this bill thats for Taxing what you make literally goes into effect soon.

I was going to make a joke on how you could fix this by telling the government they can tax crypto, then i found out they were actually going to do it

When they figured out oil could do more than light lamps the price also went up. GPUs are victims to advancements in technology application. need more fabrication for prices to go down. unfortunately the talent for sub 7nm is limited.

?

Following the announcement that Treasury Secretary Yellen had endorsed the compromise language, it is widely expected that the final regulations will exempt validators, miners, and software developers from the reporting requirements included in the IIJA.

This basically only affects the exchanges.
If you are a "deep" miner you already have an exchange that doesnt know your physical address.
And mining to a wallet directly then doing what you need to do to convert to fiat....or better yet buying directly with your crypto basically circumvents the bill from really working.

But we'll see how this goes.
I wish the US luck.
I dont live in the US anymore so maybe ill be importing my GPUs from the US now.

There are good reasons. The shortage isn't affecting only the GPU and console markets, one of the most critical sectors to be affected was the automotive industy, alongside the production of medical devices and many many others.
Its definitely in their best interest to cut down the use of chips on something virtually useless like mining that yet goes on to consume loads of materials and creates mountains of e-waste.

So you are saying that GPU companies should be punished for stealing precious silicon?

They wouldn't punish GPU companies, but passing laws that discourage mining is something they could very well do.

I mean, they already are. Though they say miners are exempt from this bill they are passing, if the crypto market and bitcoin goes down as a result of it, miners will definitely be negatively affected.
