Corona Virus possible effect on new consoles?

China has taken pretty intense measures to try to contain the Corona virus outbreak within their border, as of now all of their main production cities are on lockdown (even Shenzen and many other major cities outside the Wuhan province are on lock down, their ports are closed).

Is it even possible that we will see new consoles if things keep going in this direction?

Obviously there could be a turn around, but I would not plan on this happening too soon.

Micheal Pachter said something about this.
Microsoft and Sony have plants in Taiwan and Vietnam that can carry the toll of production. Apple’s facility is mostly in China so they are kinda screwed. That’s why you don’t put all your eggs in one basket in case a pandemic like this occurs. It happened with SARS and China never learned from that, they still had their stupid meat part of the city. Butchers cutting up exotic animals without any proper hygeine. I think they fucking deserved it. Never learn, always archaic and never taking the proper sanitation procedures.

Well they are paying for it now. I wonder how the world will transform after this colossal fuck up. Also the Chinese government is the laughing stock. It’s like China is always manufacturing some type of global virus over there. Also this censorship and hush hush. Someone tries to warn them about it but do they listen no. Well this is hit hitting the fan. A lot more people are going to die. Time to kill the people in power all these cowardly motherfuckers need to die.

We’ve seen the riots with the Hong Kong protest. We just need something more tragic. This is definetly it.
People in power are fucking stupid. With a totalitarian system eventually the farmers rose up after being pissed off with the fat kings demands and they tore him to pieces.

Joker is right. The inequality is brewing and people are going to flip the table and see where the organization of the hierarchy will fall, at least its better than what it was now. People are oppressed and pissed. Most of the Chinese army are fucking robots, they don’t have a sense of conscious. They just follow instructions told by their leaders. They just aren’t mentally developed. No wonder there is no democracy in that fucking country. What a shitty world we live in with all this regression. Too much build up of inequality is like putting too much weight on one side. Thing is going to topple over and shit will explode. Fuck.

I wouldn't be surprised if it delays the whole next gen to spring. It's not just hardware production, it's also a problem for software developers who have lot's of people working together in the same building and obviously those launch titles need to be finished somehow. Guess we'll see.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
My guess is if it's an older console such as a Magnavox Odyssey 2 or if it has underlying conditions like disc read errors, it may want to avoid larger crowds of consoles.

How many of these type of threads do we need to have? Seriously OP were you desperate to post a thread or have you not been on GAF lately to read the million other discussions similar to this!

They'll still launch, but supply will be crazy limited. In addition to China Xboxes are made in Mexico and Playstations are made in Vietnam and Taiwan.

If it mutates, maybe it can effect hardware itself? Hey, I ain't no doctor you know.

When it comes to hardware it's different than a human organism, in hardware it could be benefficial making it evolve into a new generation, Coronavirus to bring us ps5 pro and X series Z, I know of this stuff I went to university.

I heard that the Chinese government want to start production again and that factories will reopen this week or the next.
Édit: they said that it’s for essential things like Medecine and drug supply, food and public services.
They started to make other non essential facilities running (air conditioning, lights on etc) to be prepared for reopening.

Bullshit PR and waste of energy.

Why did you bump this thread when we have a bunch of other threads discussing the same thing?

No, not at all - many plants have particulate control systems, and if they have been shut down for extended periods of time (and 6 weeks+ qualifies) then you need to run the air handling for quite some time to get the production areas down to spec. In some cases, the entire production area is an ISO class 7 clean room, and they might need the system turned on for over a week to clean down.

Thanks for the precision.

It's having an effect on current gen consoles. On that weekly japanese sales, Switch units are DRAMATICALLY down because you just can't find it, there's no stock. You have to be a serious braindead chronic masturbator to think it won't have any consequence for additional hardware.

Well the effect on porn is that people stay inside and the only thing they can do is.... well whatever it is you do when watching pr0n (salivating?)

Series X being assembled in Mexico..so, bizznatch as planned for Holiday release 🤜🔥🤛
Assembly in Mexicon does not mean that there is not some some parts coming from China in any way, even if this is only parts from parts that you rely on... you still won't be able to manufacture as many of the consoles once you are through your stock of the part in question (or any consoles at all).

Obviously I don't know about MS's supply chain, but it's safe that some parts may have been sourced from China, and finding a replacement at the last minute like that is probably not easy if you plan on selling 5 - 10 million units this holiday season.

We just don't know what goes down behind the scenes..I get your point tho.

We will have to wait n see. I have a feeling MS will make it happen come this Holiday season, regardless.

Yes, I think so, if it’s true that the factories in China are shut down, I can certainly see it being delayed until next year. It’s a good thing my PS4 is coming tomorrow as I’m writing this because I have a feeling these consoles are getting delayed.

The whole country of Italy is in quarantine right now. Things are only going to get worse for other countries, we've only seen the beginning of this. There's no way of telling what impact this virus will have on the global economy and the future of things.

This will 100% affect the consoles.

Just to expand on this, I think a lot of the false sense of security comes from this originating on China. No fucking way China was being 100% true with the reports of the pandemic outbreak. Now that it's out, we're starting to see the real scope of this. And it's scary bad.

There is, right now, an entire country in quarantine.

Yep. Italy is a few weeks ahead of other European countries regarding the outbreak and many of them are taking desperate and draconic measures to slow the spreading.

And USA just stopped all flights from Europe for 30 days.

They have wet markets selling wild animals and meat comnig from several continents, comunist party know they are the source but still operate like nothing. Superstition and communism(n)

Depends entirely on how the virus spreads and where. A month from now things could be getting back to normal or 3/4 of the planet are forbidden from leaving home and everything is at a stand still.

Personally I'd have no problem waiting for another year or so. What's really getting on my nerves is the lack of communication / information, though.

Well, the Chinese said very clearly that this was a highly infectious and rather deadly disease that carried a strong risk of collapsing your healthcare system unless you took drastic mitigation measures against it - then backed up what they were saying by putting a region with 60 million people in it into quarantine, closing down huge sections of the transport system on the day before the largest holiday in the year and imposing anti-infection measures on a nationwide basis.

I have to suggest that if that gave you a "false sense of security" then you must have really not been paying attention.

I did some relevant industry reading. China's factories are booked out up until August of 2020 (all new component orders placed today will not even be scheduled until after August) and now operating at 100% capacity. i.e depending on when microsoft/sony ordered their parts, they could be on schedule, slightly delayed or months delayed with the new hardware due to component requisites. One thing is known; unless you get the new consoles on launch, you may not be able to buy them for months after. The components shortages will reverberate throughout the next 2 years at least. The world experienced 2 months of unscheduled, unplanned disruption to most of its high tech goods supply.

Dipshit can't even spell communism right.
The worst part is that it has nothing to do with gaming and belongs here.

If will still be affected as many parts will be coming from China, of course it all depends on when and how the Chinese start to get control over this virus.

The Chinese do have it now under control. Its the USA and Europe that are now going rampant by the day. At least in China they sealed off the city and vanned flights, you dont hear that many cases from lets say Shanghai.

Have you seen what they have done (closed cities, factories, quarantined everything and everyone), they didn't act like nothing was going on.

You can argue that the WHO downplayed it, that you would have liked a faster response in China, but given how democratic countries are "responding" I doubt that the political system is the cause for how fast they responded, the U.S.A. have not started widespread testing yet as far as I know, neither is Canada, or the U.K. and many countries with what is considered developped health care systems, especially the Occidental ones.

I'm in Canada all Justin does ia talk nice, and put options off of the table, we had weeks to get ready... Instead he let the natives (apparently a small minority of them, who stole ancestral titles to look more important than they are) block the trains in the whole country for three weeks (which is something he could have stopped before it escalated). Trump is not much better, and I doubt that the democrats would be better either.

We need leadership.

Do you really trust Winnie the Pooh to have been 100% accurate with numbers from day one? They did the bare minimum and only did so once everyone was looking their way.
