Corpse Party: Blood Drive |OT| Not the Red Cross You Were Expecting

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Got the game. Lots of loading times and the new characters look like they're out of place. :p

all good things
Im going to pick up my copy from Best Buy in a bit but I'm still only on Chapter 2 in the first game :/

I bought 1 and 2 during the sale a couple of weeks ago. I'm so slow playing games on handhelds.

hey so, I never beat the first game but have a bit more interest in this game. Do I have to have played that game (and any other game in the series?) to enjoy this one?

Still early on. It it's kinda creepy. I'm glad they included Endless Battery life though.

Awesome that's all I want creepy.

You have to play the first two, if you hurry up you can buy the first two games for 10 each on psn.

ok! Thanks :)

I'll get to it then at that price. Do people think the physical edition for this game will be around much longer (and drop in price maybe) or should I get it now to avoid disappointment? [I'm in the US]

It's a limited run of a niche product chances are it won't be available but you never know ( US too here ) but on the bright side you can get all trilogy for 60 bucks if you go digital. Once the psn store updates the first two games will go back to their original price of 20.

I'd get it if I were you. The LE is meaty since it contains an art book and the soundtrack from the first Corpse Party until this one.

If you don't care about the extra goods in the LE you can import the regular edition from Europe down the line.

Picked up my Best Buy preorder this morning. Kudos on having reversible box art!

Also surprised to see 2 copies sitting on the shelf. (also saw 4 copies of Ultra Despair Girls, so I guess my BB is all about niche Vita games)

The first of several XSEED games I'll be buying this holiday season (unless they get delayed). Now to find the time to play it...

Why do you have to play the first 2...? just because they are good or this one starts from a cliffhanger from the last...?

I just want to get this one, will I be completly lost...?

This is the final game in a trilogy the other two are really fucking good. It's like skipping to the last book in a series of books.

I haven't played Blood drive but from what I know about it, it builds off very closely from the cast and events of the previous games. You would probably be lost and even if you weren't the events in this game would not be likely to hold the same weight as they would to someone who played the other games.

Welp I'm too low on the dough with Zestiria out next week and all. Hope people enjoy it. I'll get this eventually, loved the previous 2 games. So atmospheric. Play with headphones and in the dark for the full effect.

Game is up on US PSN.
1.5 GB.

BTW can someone clear this up for me? What stuff from Book of Shadows, outside of the prologue lead into this game? From what I remember playing BoS was just a bunch of character-centric self contained stories.

Was this game toned down from the first two? Was just looking at the ersb ratings because I find them interesting and noticed the first two have descriptors of "Sexual Themes, Intense Violence, Blood and Gore", whereas this new one only has "Suggestive Themes, Violence, Blood"

Fantastic. Now I need to play through BoS over the next week.
(I skipped the OP in case it spoiled BoS as I never finished it)
It most assuredly does spoil Book of Shadows so that's definitely something that needs to be on your agenda.
Of course, Blood Drive spoils Book of Shadows even quicker than the OP does.

Here's the territory that Book of Shadows covers. Chapter 8 is indeed the essential bread and butter but there are some post-Corpse Party elements in the preamble to Chapter 1's alternate take as well and everything else provides depth. Haruyuki's motivations will have far less impact if you haven't played through Naho's back story from Chapter 4, for instance.

It's basically an anthology of eight short stories relating to the first game.

Four of these (chapters 1, 2, 5, and 6) are alternate-universe takes on the first game, following one of the wrong endings from that game in order to pull a Higurashi-like time-loop scenario that asks a lot of "what-if" questions and focuses primarily on characters who didn't get as much development in the first Corpse Party (like Mayu and Morishige). These four chapters are non-canon.

Two of these (chapters 3 and 4) are prequels to Corpse Party, taking place well before the events of the first game and giving a whole lot of development to Ms. Yui and Naho. These chapters are canon.

One of these (chapter 7) takes place during the events of the first Corpse Party game, but focuses on a different group of people (Kizami and his classmates). This chapter is canon, and is actually an alternate take on an Extra Chapter from the PC version of the first game.

And finally, chapter 8 is like, SUPER-canon, taking place two weeks after the true ending of the first game and dumping a crap-ton of plot that leads directly into Blood Drive. This, more than any other, is the chapter you really should play before firing up Blood Drive, as the cliffhanger ending of it is almost immediately spoiled upon starting up the game.

Blood Drive opens two months after the events of Book of Shadows chapter 8.

I should have my Everafter Edition delivered from Amazon today, although I won't have time to start it anytime soon with currently trying to finish Metal Gear Solid V and story mode in Persona 4: Dancing All Night. Plus, I'm also getting Dragon Quest Heroes soon. I just didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to get the Everafter Edition, so I preordered it.

I got through I think Chapter 3 of the first game on PSP, and never played the 2nd game. I liked the first game a lot, I just always came across other games since getting it that captured my interest more. I imagine I would miss out on the full impact of events by not actually playing the 2 previous games, but I imagine if I read a synopsis of the two games online, I wouldn't be completely lost jumping right into Blood Drive when the time comes, right?

You wouldn't be completely lost... but I would still advocate against it.
Like you could read synopses online for the first four books of Game of Thrones and jump in at A Dance with Dragons and not be completely lost but why would you ever do such a thing?
You'll get infinitely more impact out of Blood Drive by not taking short cuts.

If anything, it's more explicit than the previous games -- I think the ESRB just doesn't rate things as extremely as they used to.

Currently playing it for review! I had hoped to be done in time to have my review up for the game's release, but I'm not going to make it.

Seriously—just use the endless battery and don't feel guilty about it. One of my biggest pet peeves about horror games is the limited battery gimmick, because it tends to fill me with annoyance, not fear.
