Dark Souls III |OT+2| Why Can't We Poise the Game?

Yeah, Steam version. Is it normal NG? With DLCs/or at least DLC 2 not already beat? I don't care about level.

Thank you very much!

Yep, NG, right after beating Ariandel's boss. I also have other saves from before, if you wish.

There should be some pale tongues in the inventory, if you want to respec and change appearance. You'll just have to accept the silly name :p

I was having problems with Friede and getting a bit irate so I switched to a great shield which I never use because I usually just don't have the stats for heavy gear and as soon as I switched to it she started doing the ice attacks a lot - the jumping ones with the frostbite trail across the ground.

I don't remember ever seeing her do those in the first phase before, could be wrong but it just seemed really apparent that she started doing them after I switched shields, usually all I see in the first phase is the regular parry-able swings and her going invisible.

Just thought it was interesting and wondered if I just haven't fought her enough to see her do the jump/ice attacks in the first phase, or it was related to my shield - which would be very cool that they programmed that. She still trashed me even with a great shield, it wasn't until I switched back to my normal set up that I took her down. :3

Never fought her with a greatshield and she constantly does these attacks in phase 1. I don't know how you managed to never see them before...

Ahhh, ok. I guess the AI wasn't as clever as I thought it might be after all!

It's been a good while since I played the DLC, it's very possible I'd seen it before I just didn't remember it in the fiirst phase and it took me by surprise. I guess it was just RNG that she didn't do it before I whipped out the shield. To conserve as much estus as possible for phase 3 (because I suck at it) I usually try and get the first phase over pretty fast and parry her, then spam R1 etc as she gets up so maybe that's why I don't remember seeing it before.

Great timing for the conversation, just prepping myself to take her down over the next few sessions if possible. Mainly dex build but have just upgraded an Astoria UGS to +10 because I read that it is possible to stun her a bit with the WA. Fingers crossed.

Edit: Finally got Friede down! Wow, this fight is exhilarating. Did it unembered, and thus solo in my Faraam outfit. Best boss in Dark souls, tied with Midir, as light weapon user with 10/10 Int/faith. Ended up using my Frayed blade. You know after spending so much time with her bitching about Yuria whenever I die it has become hate love relationship like she's jealous of her.

And so, with the Painter working on a new world and the chapel burning around me:

Praise the sun.

Now with all the bosses down, can finally start NG+. Really fun solo run, wish I could do it again the first time.

Finally getting around to checking out The Ringed City DLC.

I'm not sure if I've finally grown tired of this series (I kind of doubt this, honestly) or if this is just a bad piece of content, but I am not enjoying this at all. Maybe it's just me, I dunno'. But this is the first time in series history (including Bloodborne) where I feel like both the level design and enemy encounters aren't enjoyable or challenging for the right reasons. I really, really don't want to call this DLC "lazy", but man, it doesn't feel like it was created with any sort of craftsmanship at all. I'm going to push through it though.

I thought The Ringed City is my favourite map by far, the buildings portray this beautiful yet melancholic feel. The new enemies are interesting but can be skipped easily. The boss fights are decent as well and the gear top notch. It's a good epilogue to the whole saga.

I think I understand what you're saying though the first part in the dreg heap could be a bit of a downer but push through past the first boss and you'll be rewarded.

Thanks for your thoughts. You've definitely inspired me to keep going.

I didn't love the level design, but the bosses are great. The last boss and the optional boss are easily two of my favorites in the entire game.

I felt the start of the DLC wasn't the best, but I think looking back on the DLC as a while after finishing it, It's really good.

I reinstalled DS3 this weekend since I've been meaning to beat the game (I lost my save a year ago after I had to reformat my PC), but the frame pacing were bugging the shit out of me. After 3+ hours of furious Googling and messing around with settings, I finally managed to get rid of it. I made a Reddit post here, but long story short it's a matter of reducing pre-rendered frames to 1. This single setting dramatically changed the performance for me, from constantly hitching even though my FPS counter said I was getting a solid 60 FPS, to actually feeling like a smooth and fluid 60 FPS.

Something to try if you're playing the PC version.

How difficult is this game compared to DS1 and DS2? I found 1 to be extremely hard, peaking around the Duke's Archives, Anor Londo, and the DLC, and I found DS2 to be even harder with the decreasing maximum HP on death, peaking into ludicrousness around the Iron Keep, the Shrine of Amana and all of the DLC, particularly with
Sir Alonne.

Since combat is faster you could have problems getting used to timings of attacks, dodges etc. Hard to say really, I've seen people saying this is the hardest DS game and then others saying something completely opposite. Plus there's no health penalty on dying like in 2.

Yes there is. Your health is instantly reduced to 70% when non-embered.

I found DS3 to be harder than DS2 (STOFS) by far. Most of the bosses in the latter are walkovers, especially if you use a bow and summon NPCs. The main boss in the iron keep, I got him down on the second try even though the NPC summon basically died a minute into the fight as he glitched and just sat there doing nothing but eating fire. The last boss medley in the main game was so easy I got them down in the first go doing nothing but shooting arrows and dodging when necessary. I was kinda flabbergasted to be honest, coming off DS3 and Nioh. In DS2 you are really fighting against the levels and gank squads to be honest. The bosses are mostly uninspired.

Then again these games are highly dependant on your experience and build.

It's not reduced,it's your normal amount of health. Embers just boost it by 30%. At 23 Vigor you have 1000 hp,1300 when Embered.

Its pretty much the same though. You can say the lower HP of Souls 2 is your normal health and turning human boost your HP.

So I picked this up a few weeks ago and have been going at it. Been playing for about 18 hours and just made it to Farron Keep--did Cathedral first. I must say, the bosses in this aren't exceedingly hard. The only boss I died to so far was Deacon once because I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing, and easily stomped it the second time. I have more problems with the likes of Cathedral/Lothric Knights than I have with any of the bosses.

Really enjoying the game though--except the Cathedral Rafters, that segment sucked. I had been playing and picked up Witcher 3 and decided to check it out, after DS3 the combat in Witcher seems pretty awful...

Witcher 3 combat feels better if you play on the harder difficulties. You really need to manage your bombs, potions, decoctions, and oils, as well as doing lots of dodging and avoiding getting swarmed by enemies.

But yes, the combat isn't as good as DS3. On the other hand, everything else about Witcher 3 (plot, quests, world design, characters, music, graphics) surpasses DS3 for me.

That's fair. I was playing the first few fights with my KB/M and switched to my PS4 controller and it got a lot better. I just like that DS is a pure game in some aspects. The story is there but the emphasis is on the gameplay more than anything else, and it nails that.

If any of you come back to this thread, I just want you all to know that this was one of my favorite GAF communities (and my favorite game!).

Thank you everyone for all the fun times.

I haven't been here in a loooooooong time. Just wanted to say this thread was awesome. Helped me a lot in DS games, was fun co-oping with some of you, fight clubbing with some of you, and helping you out by even doing simple things like trading. Hell of a community that I will never forget <3

Bye, Souls-GAF. Only because of this site I became a fan of this series which is now probably my favorite ever. Gonna miss most of you.

Any tips for getting through the first area? The guys that morph into the snakes kick my ass. I'm a Knight. My guess is that attempt to farm souls and level up my sword with the raw gem I have. Open to suggestions. I've beat Demon, Dark, and BloodBorne but this seems unforgiving.

Specifically, fire will stun them for a short time too.

With limited resources, I will often throw a firebomb, run in for a couple of two-handed hits, then run back out. Wait for their animation to completely reset to normal (otherwise they won't stun again immediately) and then throw another firebomb - rinse and repeat.

They are weak to Firebombs, so having a handful of those ready at all times helps. Outside of that, the Pus of Man (what they are technically called) can be killed before they transform--you just have to learn which worshipers transform and sprint to them and get 2 solid hits in before they transform. If that fails, there's only really 1 that's in the way of progression--the roof at the bottom of the tower--and you can actually just run right past that group if you need to, or trigger him, run back and throw 1-2 Firebombs, which will take him down about 60% and go from there.

I hated those things when I started a few weeks back (also as a Knight) but they are manageable, and far from the worst enemies you will encounter--not even the worst in High Wall of Lothric honestly.

I just started playing this and man this seems great. It feels like a blend of the previous souls games and Bloodborne. I thought 2 felt unrefined and clunky, but this game seems to correct those issues. I'm not very far, I just beat the boss in the High Wall, but so far so good.

Yea there is something a bit maddening about 2 that I can’t put my finger on. The control and aesthetics definitely feel off compared to the other souls games. Still enjoy it for what it is and has some really great moments in it.

That said I’d say Dark Souls III bosses are leaps and bounds better than Dark Souls 2 which many of them slip my mind.

2 is souls but on ice skates you slide around a fair bit but the combat mechanics make up for it.

hi guys, so I am thinking on starting DS2 and 3 on pc to see if I can get them off of my backlog, but I remembered that pvp was full of cheaters and this was a bit of a turn off for me, so I wanted to ask how is the current status of the online community for this game? is it tolerable or so anoying that is better just to just go offline?

You don’t need PVP to get these games off your backlog? Their are plenty of NPC summons to get you through too. Been working my way through DS2 First Sin on XB1 and haven’t had any issues. Go get Hollow!

I'm playing through DS3 as a Pyromancer, I had a save just before the final boss that I wanted to go back to to do the DLC but Windows has deleted it so here I am again.
I'm Level 35 with the following :
Vigor 16
Attunement 18
Endurance 11
Vitality 8
Strength 16
Dexterity 10
Intelligence 19
Faith 19
Luck 7
I'm using Deep Battle Axe+1, have my Pyromancy Flame at +3 and the Silver Eagle Kite Shield.
I use Fireball mostly but also have Firesurge and Great Combustion, I just got to Keep Ruins Bonfire.
I'm doing ok but think my melting could be much better, which weapons should I be using/upgrading/infusing?
Any other tips?
Should I get some sorcery spells as well?
How should I upgrade my character from here on in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm still trucking away at this game, got a little diverted (played through Metroid 2 on my 3DS, and my other responsibilities tend to limit my game time), but I'm progressing through Farron Woods and have been having a great time. The shortcuts the game opens up are cool and all, but ultimately pointless because of the bonfire teleporting and placement. The world is cool, but seems limits in variety, but maybe cause I'm not very far I guess. I am enjoying the hell out of the places I'm going to though. And some of these weapons and weapon skills are pretty badass. I still think this is a huge step up from DS2 and almost feels like a natural progression from the first one.

Well, I think I got it all. No dlc yet for me but I'm now helping people beat bosses. I'm pretty high level though so not too much for me.

Might call it a day in it. A great game. Finally got my self a good mage build too.
