Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is now the most Viewed KTTrailer Ever, more than Zelda.

Some say that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 isn’t coming west due to a purely business-oriented decision, because it wouldn’t sell. One thing is for sure, the game’s trailers are proving popular. The most watched video posted by Koei Tecmo on YouTube was Hyrule Warriors‘ Zelda trailer, that until a few days ago was also the only trailer published by the company to go past a million views.

Turns out that the top spot has been stolen away from the hands of the cute princess of Hyrule by the sexy heroines of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. The second teaser trailer for the upcoming PS4 and PS Vita Dead or Alive spin-off has passed the million views on December 31st, and just a few minutes ago, it has overtaken Zelda and is now standing tall as the most viewed video of Koei Tecmo’s YouTube history.

Interestingly, not only the video has passed the former top dog in views, but it has quite a lot more likes, and for a game that some would fear would cause massive controversy, it has been hit by less dislikes.

And it’s not just a fluke. A similar level of popularity extends to every trailer of the game: the first teaser released two months ago just overtook Deception IV: Blood Ties‘s “super trap combo” trailer for the third place overall, with 946,043 views at the moment of this writing, while the latest trailer published two weeks ago is at 519,381 views and climbing steadily.

To add a further detail to the picture, all of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3‘s trailers did not debut on YouTube. They were all showcased on Nico Nico livestreams two days before their YouTube release, and recorded and published on several websites. This means that the actual direct feed videos got even less traffic than they would have received if they debuted directly on YouTube, since many had already seen them.

It’s pretty obvious to me that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 has a very healthy sales potential, and I don’t really think that’s limited to Japan and Asia only. In any case, I doubt anyone really expects us to believe that someone at Koei Tecmo honestly thinks that it would sell less in the west than niche titles like Arslan: The Warriors of Legend or Nights of Azure.

It was watched more because of two things: boobs and controversy. That's about as anylitical as things need to be here. It's the Internet, after all.

Edit: given the franchise's long overdue upgrades, add "ass" as a third. My mistake!

The licence for Arslan must have been ridiculously cheap. I would like to know why they thought there was money in that property.

Not sure if it's really saying a whole lot when as you say, third place was the Deception series, which is niche as fuck.

Ass is always first.

Yep, Arslan won't sell

DOAX3 would've sold much better and would have had a similar cost for localization. Also dat DLC potential

Well... it looks awesome and sexuality/porn/fanservice always brings new technology forward (see VHS, DVD, BluRay & more which all took off thanks to porn).

I mean... did you see that ass physics on NyoTengus ass? Or Ayanas butt shake? Or Honokas glorious cow boobs?

Well deserved.

In the hearts of the masses, yes. But clearly it's an afterthought to the developers - it wouldn't have taken this long to get properly focused on otherwise. It's good to see more equal representation in such a seminal series, but balance is still a long way off.

Well. finally! It's already a good first step. And you can see the difference.

That trailer is like watching a red band trailer for basic instinct 3. Everyone is gonna watch out of morbid curiousity. Doesn't mean they are going to pay money for something that you have to play alone to avoid embarrassment.

Techno shouldnt avoid releasing it due to negative press or anything. But let's be real: that shit isn't gonna make money in the us

The game is already made and translated. They'd just need to get it through ratings and put it on PSN. There is no way it wouldn't make money.

If we're talking financial decisions, KT greenlit making the game and localizing it, but the last few little things they need to do to release it in the west is an investment they can't justify?

Does it though? Because I feel like a let's play video on Youtube will be more than enough for lots of people to get what they want out of it.

Edit: I'm actually serious about this. I'm sure lots of people love the game part of the game. Lots of others love the t&a part of the game. The second group doesn't need to buy the game in order to enjoy it. Is the first group large enough for commercial success?

You confuse 'sexy girls doing sexy thing things and observing from all possible angles at your leisure' with 'single player story focused 2 hour long linear experience'.

See my edit, I'm honestly curious about this.

Well... this is DOAX3. The first two being Xbox exclusives which entirely ruled out the Japanese audience. This was also before they realised they could sell a handful of easily created outfits for multiple hundreds of dollars.

So yea...

You could say the same about Telltale games and these games still sell. It's not that easy.
The appeal here is interactivity and it's impossible to say how many people want that. But KT seems to think the audience is there.

Yeah, I understand why they aren't making physical disks for the West, but why not put it up on PSN?

I want to think so, yes. I never played the previous DOAX games because i only had a PS3, so i can't wait for this.

But i don't really know if there are a lot of people that want to pay for this game. I can only hope. The best thing to do will be release it digital on PSN cheap. Or free to play. They can make A LOT of money with DLC.

How will you enjoy VR via Youtube? Or taking the kind of specific photos etc you want via Youtube?
I would imagine Let's Plays for this game increasing sales potential if anything.

I think the views come from so many people sharing it at how ridiculous/awesome the game is. Plus you know the repeat plays from all the TnA.
