Disco Elysium Studio ZA/UM Cultural Association, Dissolves..key staff members depart sequel

I, Martin Luiga, a founding member and Secretary of the ZA/UM cultural association, as well as the assembler of most of the core team, am hereby dissolving the ZA/UM cultural association (not to be confused with the ZA/UM company, on which subject I would note that neither Kurvitz, Hindpere nor Rostov are working there since the end of last year and their leaving the company was involuntary. Which would seem like bad news for the loving fans that are waiting for the Disco sequel.)

The reason for dissolving the cultural organization is that it no longer represents the ethos it was founded on. People and ideas are meant to be eternal; organizations may well be temporary. I find that the organization was successful overall and most of the mistakes that were made were contingent, determined by the sociocultural conditions we were thrown into. I still encourage people to organize, and I would say that one of the qualities that the ZA/UM cultural organization sorely lacked was pretty much any formal structure.

For a while, it was beautiful. My sincerest thanks to all that have rooted for us.

'People' are not meant to be eternal what kind of crackclub organization was this supposed to be anyway?

Okay, so an organization that was sucessful until it became affected by reality. What a loss.

Disco.

It's at the very tippy top few of my favourite games of all times, easily, maybe even #1 on the cRPG pile on a good day..... this news t's basically a death warrent for the quality of the sequel sadly. Kurvitz was the leader writer and responsible for what made the first game so fucking good.

This oddly reminds be of when Troika games went bust after creating Bloodlines.

I have absolutely no idea what any of this means but if the people that worked on and wrote Disco Elysium aren't working on the sequel I am not playing it.

That's exactly what it means.

Robert Kurvitz (lead writer and designer; he literally created DE universe/lore), Helen Hindpere (writer) and Aleksander Rostov (art director) are no longer part of the studio.

Sad to see. Disco Elysium was a top tier CRPG with some of the best writing in the industry.

But lots of folks will be happy because the game was supposedly “pro communist propaganda” - which goes counter to what the game actually was and the narrative it told. Then again, perfectly shows the folks who never touched the game and instead read outrage articles for reasons to be offended.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Read some of the posts above.
I don't see anything about it, help me out.

You mean randoms calling a studio "socialist", lol?

At least wikipedia's a little helpful, it seems the game was made under some pretty "crazy" circumstances that miraculously led to a great game, but there's nothing that makes any one of them out as literally crazy (or any of the things they're accused of being, which wouldn't make them so either).

Damn, we're defending communism now?

No idea what you're saying. Irony exists you know. Guess I'll go by this post and leave it at that then since you don't have an actual answer and just wanna shitpost and I guess the next step is to call me literally crazy as well because I asked a question you don't have an answer outside google for.

These guys are from Estonia and I have a hard time believing they are Stalinists in any way. Socialists, Anarchists, Far-leftists, Ironic trolls, sure, but not Stalinists.

Anyway, the game is a masterpiece and I can't wait to play Pentiment, because that seems to be constructed in a similar way.

DE is pretentious pure drivel pseudointellectual nonsense. If you wanted an intellectual experience read a book. Don’t think you‘re smart because you “get” the game.

It’s meh at best.

Saying it’s the best in the industry is like saying your kid is the smartest because they’re the best shit finger painter in their grade.

I need to properly play Disco Elysium. The opening parts were really interesting & funny but I got thrown off by the kid you encounter right at the beginning who sounds very clearly like someone awkwardly putting on a Liverpudlian accent.

This reads like someone who couldn’t understand half the words.

The Cockatrice The Cockatrice and Trazyn the Infinite Trazyn the Infinite you're having two different conversations.

The Cockatrice The Cockatrice , he is saying they don't fit the literal definition of crazy(dictionary definition), not your own personal definition.

Trazyn the Infinite Trazyn the Infinite , in The Cockatrice The Cockatrice 's world, liking any form of government not in line with what he considers the right one is crazy from his point of view.

...All it took was for one of you to clarify your stance, for things to not snowball the way they did from a single misunderstanding.

Leaked footage from their last staff meeting:

lol man, this is so hard to watch. Couldn't make it to the end and I salute every comrade who manages to do that. Point of information: I try not to cheer too loud or wave or hiss or breathe or do anything that might offend them (them, as in 'many them').

A shame. Disco Elysium had its flaws (like showering you with tons of text and sophisticated language when it wasn't needed), but it was still a very unique game and it's going to be remembered 10 or 20 years from now just like people bring back Planescape Torment during conversations.

The game is amazing because of it voice level up system that's really unique, it's crazy amount of directions you can take things, political hilarity and it's characters. Also the art is cool and it's music is hard-core.

Only bad thing was the bad bugs and the fact they will let you soft lock if you don't have money on a certain day to pay your rent and your forced to sell some cool side content items which sucked.
