Finally tried this tonight and it's not too bad. Seems like it is quite deep as well. Doubt I'll be spending any money on it, but I can see myself messing around with it for a bit.

Ugh, I would just like to point something out because I hate when people say this,

IGN said:
Pay to win! Some of the games best guns need to be purchased with Aurum(AUR). In order to obtain Aurum, the player must purchase some in the Market Place with real money.

This is simply not true. All the weapons in Dust 514 have two versions, the version you buy with real money and the version you buy with in-game money. These two guns have THE SAME EXACT STATS. The only difference is the premium guns are unlocked one level early. So if you wanted to use the Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifle for example, you can either get to Level 5 Assault Rifle Operations and pay with ISK or get to Level 4 Assault Rifle Operations and pay with AUR.

This game is not pay to win, it's pay to get stuff a little bit early.

And in fact, the best guns in the game are Officer Weapons. These cannot be buyed with ISK or AUR, but must be salvaged from playing battles. These are rare and hard to come by, and when you get one you are going to want to save it for big Corporation Battles and not waste them on pub matches.

Well did they fix the mouse controls or not? Is it up to cs/ut/natural selection2 or cs or any other random pc game's level of being proper mouse input?
Or is it still like bioshock/binary domain where it's just emulating an analog stick?

You'd think someone, anyone, on gaf would make a big deal about mouse controls

those Dust 514 Packs being sold in the PSN store, the armors, do they need specific racial armor requirements?

I haven't bought them, but I have been told the suits and weapons offered to not require any skills. Basically they are just non-consumable standard grade stuff. Pretty good if you want a nice cheap/free suit to run around in and make ISK, but it won't get you far past Pub matches. Oh and they look cool so there's always that.

I retract the earlier comments I made about the beta for this game. Played this game for a good hour today and I like it. Graphics have been improved, the BF style conquest mode is fun, game is easy to get into.

But this is one game that benefit GREATLY if it were ported to PS4. I want 64 player battles, 1080p and 60 FPS. Then this game could be special!

I'm going to be on this a little bit tonight. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the start of my summer break with a fat joint and a fresh gaming experience. If anyone wants to play with me, my PSN is: Proximity_Plus

Game is pretty damn good, I'm impressed by how much it has progressed since the beta.

Core gunplay is a lot of fun, and it seems like you can actually compete without paying, which is pretty awesome for a F2P game these days. Yes, you can use real money to unlock weapons earlier, but so far, I haven't done any of that and am still very competitive. Still don't really understand the salvage system, but that will come with some more playtime.

Overall, really impressive for a F2P FPS. Wish it was getting more buzz, as it actually does some new things with the genre.

yeah its the look I like lol

Played a few games and its been a long time since I first tried it.

It sure is improved in pretty much every way.

The gameplay is nothing special but at least it feels like a competent shooter. I remember not being happy with the shooting early in the beta.

Graphics also seem drastically improved but it looked like trash when I first played. It doesnt look great now and its clearly pushing the Unreal Engine is directions it shouldnt be pushed but its not offending me with its uglyness.

Still havent a clue how the larger meta game works though it seems pretty deep and I am sure people will get into it.

I fully expect this to get a PC / next gen release down the road and that should be interesting. I can see this doing very well on steam.

Yeah, I'm much more comfortable with the shooting mechanics now. The skill system is a little bit more intuitive than before.

Long story short, I had a pretty decent time playing this last night. Played for for 2-3 hours. I'm still trying to figure out what weapons are good and which ones I should spend ISK/SP to qualify for. This is admittedly difficult when you can't sample the guns like you can in Planetside Deux.

I'll be on again tonight (probably after Game of Thrones) if anyone wants to jam.

Why isn't this game getting more love?

its is freaking amazing! it reminds of halo on steroids.

this uprising patch must of improved the game significantly, because from what I hear, the beta build was terrible.

We're a very rag tag bunch of people playing Dust, to be honest there isnt much interest outside this thread.

If I didn't suck at making threads (and if I knew more about the game), I'd make an OT. I think that might at least spread some awareness about the game by hitting the Gaming Community browsers.

What it needs is more maps and varied game modes. The gameplay is kinda stale, and although the game has been growing on me lately it's starting to wear a bit thin, which is not a good thing for a F2P game. A horde mode should have been there day one.

As for PS4, it would be nice but going by Fanfest info they don't have anything planned for a PS4 release, their 'golden bullet' is focusing on the PS3 as the price drops.

This is what baffles me. DUST 514 is a Sony exclusive title so I am confused as to why they used Unreal engine and not the incredible Killzone one.

Why is there no Dust 514 OT yet? Am I just failing at searching?

I've considered making one, but I have no OT making experience and I'm not sure of the best way to condense the information into a suitable format. Not to mention that the GAF interest in Dust is pretty much zero, so it would have to be a brilliant OT to stand a chance of expanding the audience.

To allow easier porting to future platforms, most likely. Also, as far as I know, Sony's first party engines aren't leased out to third party companies. CCP's own Carbon Enginge was extremely unsuitable for PS3, so their only realistic option was to lease out an easy to develop third party engine (even though UE3 isn't great on PS3).

Been playing this for the last few days, not too bad. Reminds me of MAG just less hectic. Really unintuitive though. Like where do I get permanent weapons and items? It mentioned blueprints that never run out but they don't seem to be buyable - I'm guessing they're randomly dropped as salvage? I suppose the game is designed around having a constant inflow of ISK and having to spend it, but the cheap bastard in me wants something I don't have to constantly replenish so I've been sticking with the default weapons but those aren't cutting it outside the academy.

For the most part, blueprints are premium items which you can only get with Aurum or from merc packs. If you look in the milita section of the marketplace you'll see BPO (blueprint original) equivalents for most items, although militia is the weakest gear in the game. In the future, when the player market is open, you'll be able to buy them from other players with ISK. The plan is to make every item in the game available for trade, even premium skill boosters. Aside from purchasable BPOs there have been quite a few events in the past where players were rewarded with BPOs from participating. I personally have 3 Exile assault rifles from various events in the past.

My advice is to not get too attached to BPOs, since they're mostly crap and none of them go higher then standard gear anyway. You need to get used to the idea of budgeting early on ie. if you die on average 10 times a game then limit your suit costs to around 10-15k ISK.

Having a real risk associated with every death is one of the main reasons why Dust appeals to me so much. To my knowledge, virtually no other fps offers anything like it. There's not many games that give the satisfaction of killing somebody in Prototype gear which costs them hundreds of thousands for each death, or blowing up a tank worth millions of ISK. I'm really starting to think that BPOs should never have been added to Dust in their current risk free format. When the economy eventually gets up and running and connected to EVE, the fewer BPOs the better.

As cool as the meta game is with the connection to EVE, this is probably my favorite part. It really gives you a sense of accomplishment that most other shooters lack.

Set this to download last night, I am intrigued and want to try it out after seeing the huge patch notes in the OP. I also played Eve a while back for a bit, so it will be interesting to see how this works.

There was an update a couple of days ago to make specialised dropsuit frames easier to get into. All dropsuit skills have had their multiplier reduced by x2. Also, to spec into a logi suit now, you only need to get the racial medium skill to level 3, rather than level 5.

At the moment, you can get an optional respec and have all of your SP unallocated by making a petition on the support section of the Dust website. More details are available on the official forums.

* Completely retuned controller sensitivity settings in the options menu to give a broader range

Great news, the floaty controls were my main problem with the beta (I got my PS3 Uncharted 3 bundle like 2 months ago and it came with DUST). Is the download up right now, and how long does it take? I've been jonesing for a decent online FPS on my new PS3, so I hope this beta fixes a lot of issues I originally had.

You and me both I just grabbed this bundle last week :)

Ok this is starting to get ridiculous that we have no OT. I understand that there isn't really much interest for Dust on GAF, but an OT would still be nice and could perhaps help get others to try it out.

So I started working on one. If you want to help send me a PM and I'll send you my draft.

Can somebody explain to me how exactly does this link with EVE work? What steps do I have to take to support / get support from EVE players?

I think there is some stuff with the star map.

But all I really understand is the orbital bombardment. When a team/person gets 2000 war points they can call one in from eve players.
