Elysium City - Spain To Get 1st "Intelligent" City in Europe in 2023

https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2019...e-park-and-water-adventure-park/#.XGWhDdL7TDc

SPAIN is set to get the first major smart sustainable city project in Europe – planned and built from scratch – and will get a huge theme park and water park thrown in for good measure.

The huge venture is expected to create 15,000 jobs by completion of the first phase and 40,000 to 50,000 by year ten.

Developers say the Elysium City project will place Castilbanco (Badajoz) and Extremadura as a unique destination at an international scale.

“Elysium will be the first of its kind. All elements of design construction and operations will have a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and quality of life.”

The construction should start soon with an anticipated opening date of the first phase, including four hotels, casinos and an 18-hole ‘signature’ golf course, in 2023.

The plans also include a 40,000 seat stadium, residential housing, shops and a marina.

US-based company Cora Alpha is behind the design of the project that estimates to see over four million visitors to the city when it first opens.

Only 2000 residences for phase 1? This is a theme park, not a city. Also an enormous amount of resources being expended to construct something "sustainable." Looks reminiscent of a resort that'd be in Dubai.

For most of the world, perfect sustainability is a luxury. This will be the sort of place wealthy people move to in order to assuage guilt.

Calling it Elysium is a perfectly apt, if ironic, as well.

Why not just improve existing cities lmao
Argument could be made that bureaucracy and NIMBYISM would kill any drastic project. Better to make a "model city" to show the world, almost like a prototype, that you can market out to other cities instead of wasting time and money trying to win over a bureaucracy that can't see your vision.

I guess rather than being designed as an actual residential area maybe it's a good place to test out the sorts of ideas mentioned before you actually implement them in a real city. Figure out if something like smart lights actually work before you install them in a major city and risk causing chaos.
