Hotel rooms

So GAF, when you stay in a hotel do you straighten up before checking out? Do you let maid service in everyday during longer stays or not at all or just ever so often?

I try to straighten up a bit. As I stay in hotels often usually for extended stays I tend not to let them service while I’m staying, especially if I’m working nights. I have to admit though, I didn’t straighten up today too much before leaving. I woke up at 4:30am and proceeded to dick around until 10:30ish before I started packing. I originally wanted to leave around 11. Fucking Fallout Shelter lol.

This was my last trip for this project so I had some stuff that I had nothing else to do with like a half full bag of coffee, oatmeal, honey, salt and pepper, dryer sheets etc. I left it haphazardly strewn about. Didn’t pile the towels like normal, left the dishes in the sink (I did wash them but figure they will wash again due to CV). I did pick up most the trash and threw it into a big garbage bag.

What is your hotel etiquette? Do you trash the room and laugh as you leave? Do you take the little bottles of lotion? Do you tip?

They are charging you $100+ per night. If throwing a couple empty packages into a trash can and re-making my bed is too much to ask them to do, what the fuck are you paying that much for?

This. I won’t trash the place, or leave it unkempt (basic human decency), but the service I paid for covers this stuff. If I go full hotel maid, I’m paying them for the work I did, which borders into retarded territory.

Yeah, I just don't understand the mentality :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Like, people, you're paying for a service and then providing that service to the people who are supposed to be providing it to you. It'd be like ordering a pizza delivery and picking it up yourself but tipping the driver who never left the restaurant.

I try and leave it in a reasonable state yeh. I don't mean leaving it spotless, the cleaner is there for a reason. But I don't just need to leave stuff lying around. I'm an adult. Just because I can make the cleaner clean up everything for me doesn't mean I have to do it.

We at least make sure trash/recycling is in the bins and towels in a pile in the bathroom floor.

Price of the room doesn’t really matter to me as housekeeping is paid shitty relative to cost of living pretty much everywhere (especially big cities which is our travel). I also leave them a tip.

I’m big on at least doing a little to try and help our people who are working harder than me for far less money. They’re doing what they can to get by instead of trying to go/stay in welfare etc. and I respect the hell out of that. It’s not my fault corporations don’t pay their employees fairly, but I can still at least make their jobs a tiny bit easier and toss them a few bucks since were fortunate to have pretty ways jobs/lives as a decent amount of disposable income.

Of course I would never advocate cleaning toilets or some such nonsense but I gotta admit, I kinda act like an unruly teen when I stay in a room for more than a couple nights 😂

I'm a weirdo when it comes to travel. I don't even like sleeping in some weird bed and getting under the covers and stuff, let alone making a mess of the place.

It's hard for me to feel home anywhere other than my house. I dint travel much, and when I do, I'd rather stay with a friend or sleep in my car.

I know it's odd.

I used to have some strange hang ups but since I sleep in a hotel bed more often than my own I have learned to work through some of them. I refused to walk on the carpet barefoot, wouldn’t sit/lay on the bed cover, always checked for the Gideon Bible/Mormon book, wipe my face with their towels... I still won’t sit/lay on the couches and put a towel or extra pillows on the chairs.

🤷‍♂️

I’m not the messy type person because I always clean after me no matter where I am. But yeah, if I put that room service sign before leaving, then I expect my room to be cleaned and organised when I return

Paying whatever money for your stay doesn’t give you the right to shit on the place on your way out. Thats basic morals 101

I agree man. I like to think that it’s best to treat others as you’d like to be treated but it’s a business and there are people there to do that for you, largely. I personally wouldn’t do too much. It cost a lot of money for a hotel. It’s like $130 on average for a night, and it’s never guaranteed that the room will even be in sanitary condition. It’s a business. I pay for a service. And it’s pricey. I’ll you know pick up the main stuff I left in the ground or whatever, but anything else I’m not fretting over it. Definitely not doing the dishes for them. I don’t feel bad for the maids or clean up crew. They were hired to do that job, they chose to do that job, and I don’t feel bad if management is poor and the maids feel rushed to do their work. There are horrible jobs all across the globe, and cleaning is actually not such a bad gig to get paid for assuming your supervisors are respectful. It takes a lot of energy, and you have to look after yourself accordingly, but most of the day you just do your thing and the day goes by very quickly

Like I said, hotels charge a lot. I wont thrash a place up, and I definitely wont go out of my way to do a job that I’m not getting paid for or responsible for, for a companies I have zero ties to

Only possible reason to care is if you go to that hotel often for business trips and don’t want to be seen or treated like a nuisance of a customer in the eyes of the employees you’ll be doing business with often

The old Charlie Sheen
Poop in the shower and rip the mirror in the bathroom to do coke.
I leave hotels as clean as possible, I'm not a slob to begin with so it’s pretty easy to keep fairly neat .

Place plastic on the carpet where you leave the bodies, or better yet place them in a tub. Be courteous to the woman/man you'll scar for life after seeing your work. Have some common decency please.

Me and my friend and his fiancee when we go on vacation to a nearby town we always clean up enough so they don't think we're slobs but we're frequent customers. His rooms are usually comped.

Only dick thing he does is order extra pillows because he likes their MyPillow pillows (they are great) and before checking out takes one home with him so it ends up being HisPillow when it was really TheirPillow.

If I'm lucky enough to get stiumulus, I wanna support ol'e Mike Lindell and buy a MyPillow set.

????

He brings his fiancee with him.

Me and him usually do our own thing which is going to the bars at the casinos there. She doesn't drink so she exercises near the river or chills at the pool.

I guess

You sound like the third wheel bro
No actually not. The majority of the time it's just me and him hanging out, drinking and in his case also gambling.

She doesn't drink or gamble.

It's one of the reasons he invites me out there because he wants someone else to join him.

Edit: I should note it's really more like his gf and not a fiancee but that's what he prefers calling her.

Or he secretly wants you to bang his fiancée.

I just keep things together. Why have towels strewn all over instead of piling them up as you use them? Why have trash strewn all over instead of dropping in the trashcan as you use it? You're wasting time by turning a one step task into two.

I never make the hotel bed though.

Do you guys ever feel weird about jacking off in the special shower in the handicap accessible rooms?
Are you me?! How'd you know I was in an accessible room this time?
I actually don't care for this particular room. I've stayed at this hotel for around 4 months total and while it's bigger overall, the vanity is smaller, tub instead of shower, one less night table and chair... I thought about asking for a different room but ehhhh.

I don't generally jerk it in the shower, usually before bed or if I wake up after a cycle or two and am having trouble passing back out. 4 straight cycles works best but I struggle with that since my schedule is anything but normal. The drain in this room is a little slow too, I already have a difficult time reconciling spraying my bum (yay removable shower head!) as a result, no way I'm adding swimmers to the mix

I won't just throw trash on the floor or something like that, and I've never really "made a mess" of a hotel room.
But I also don't go out of my way to tidy things up before I leave and I do like to have the room cleaned every day. It's part of the service I'm paying for

Don't trash them but I'm not tidying up for them either are you kidding me? I usually have to rush to get out the door before checkout because it's vacation and I was up all night and slept in, I do enough room cleaning at home thanks

Having someone coming in and out and deciding what is being trashed just doesn't sit right with me. Whenever I used hotels I would place everything in my suit case and anything that could be thrown out would be visible. I kept everything well contained and organized. I would get paranoid if I lost something and when I travelled precovid-19. I would print multiple itineraries and back ups of backups. Backup of wallet in suitcase, in pants, etc.

Also after watching Contagion and seeing Kate Winslet's character get infected because someone who was making the bed sits uneasy with me. Never let your guard down. I would rather have new sets of towels retrieved at a section rather than replaced.
