18. (DS, Square Enix) Slime Morimori Dragon Quest II - 176,218 / new
19. (DS, Bandai) Dragon Ball Z - 165,599 / new

I remember that quite some people said that these are ... bombs ..., well, bombs that will sell 200k+ :lol

25. (DS, Sega) Mushiking Greatest Champion DS - 94,158 / new

Does anybody own this game? It has sold much less than the GBA version, but I somehow got the impression that it is not that much more than the GBA version and it was released quite early after it (and yet, will probably still sell 150k+). Did the GBA also get scores of less than 30 in Famitsu (the DS Mushiking afaik got 27 or 28)?

And thats the real kicker right there. DS may only be outselling the PSP by just over 3 times. But DS software is outselling PSP software by nearly 8 times.

Developers/publishers will be taking notice.

21. (GC, Tomy) Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4 - 145,437 / 233,107

33. (GC, Bandai) SD Gundam Gashapon Wars - 54,765 / new

79. (GC, Nintendo) Super Mario Stadium: Miracle Baseball - 16,604 / 211,661

I'm pleased that Naruto 4 did well as usual, and also that SD Gundam is not a complete commercial failure. I'm still waiting for my copy of the latter to arrive in Italy. Go GameCube! You are not completely forgotten!

Thanks CVXFREAK !!!
I've updated my chart ^_^

but... Sonic Rush really bombed in Japan, i never seen it in top100 chart both in November and December...

Thanks a lot :)

That top5 is really good, other countries should learn from it.

*shame that the chart doesn't count 26-1 week...well, looking forward January edition ^^

Metal Gear Acid 2 bombing pretty hard in Japan. I think sales will be down in the USA significantly too.

Too soon I think, they should've waited until 2006 for release. I always felt AC!D would've been better suited for DS anyway (PS1+ visuals plus strategic gameplay), PSP should've gotten a full MGS stealth title on day one.

Rockman X and Katamari did dismally too... really only Monster Hunter and WE9 have done exceptionally well this year on PSP. And exceptionally well on PSP still means under 300k. :/

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Castlevania DoS, Sonic Rush, Advance Wars, Tony Hawk (yea, i know), Viewtiful Joe... not even in the top 100 during the Holidays?

that kinda pinches a wallet, doesnt it. aw well, maybe next year, haha

I know this gets asked a million times, but are they going to be able to capture the momentul? What's the next 2 months game releases look like?

All those titles have little to no JP market potential anyway, they're all made with western sales in mind these days.

How comes the 360 sales are on 81k?

During it's first 3 weeks out it apparently did...

43,970
8,623
5,674

=58,267

Even with last weeks it only just takes it past 70k, where has the extra 10k come from?

I agree with you, but doesn't it seem funny that a goofy, japense-styled game like VJ would establish a bigger fanbase in the western world than the eastern? That game screams japenese, yet only the first one was succesful there, no?

Obviously these are numbers from Famitsu (which answers one of my questions ^^), which reported a bit over 60k sold X360 in the launch week.

Really? I always pictured Joe as a generic American imagewise and don't really see where the goofiness can be seen as a japanese thing. IMO VJ is more like a US superhero comic than anything else.

Thanks jarrod, always come through.

Yea, PSP seems to be really picking up steam now - however, DS has a stronger January, which leads right into Children of Mana. Which is great for the system, cause I feel Nintendo usually gets hit pretty hard right after the holidays with game draughts (save RE4, I guess).

01.19.05 BioHazard: Deadly Silence Limited Pack (Capcom)
01.19.05 Iron Feather (Konami)
01.19.05 Lost Magic (Taito)
01.19.05 Metroid Prime Pinball (Nintendo)
01.26.05 Bleach DS: Souten ni Kakeru Unmei (SEGA)

I feel like that's def strong enough to at least sustain momentum, especially with Brain Training 2 JUST being released. And then right into Feb and CoM? Noooot to shabby.

Kroole:
I mean, I may be wrong, but I always saw VJ as more like manga than US comics. But I don't really follow either too indepthly, so thats just a personal opinion. I know US kids like whacky things these days, but the difficulty of the game and the zaney animations I always felt was japanese-centric.

Slime Mori Mori 2 DS is the first 3rd party million seller on a Nintendo platform in Japan in years. Wow.

Edit: Oh that's animal crossing, duh. :lol

Huh wha?

The best selling 3rd party game for the DS is the Tamagotchi one.

It's not so much PSP "picking up steam" since PSP always has a full schedule like this. Thing is, most games sell 5-10k and drop away forever so we rarely notice in the sales charts. PSP's problem has never been a lack of software, indeed it's always had a fuller schedule than DS. The problem is a lack of compelling new software... even the top PSP sellers last year were all ports (Monster Hunter, WE9, Tales of Eternia).

I definitely agree with DS having the stronger schedule, even with fewer releases. It usually does though.

The last 3rd party published Japanese million seller on a Nintendo platform was DQ Monsters 2 on GBC. Rockman.EXE4 almost did it on GBA too, it did if you count the 4.5 release.

These are Famitsu numbers clearly as we only get the top 10 from MC as opposed to 30 for Famitsu. I miss Dengeki's top 50. :(

Tamogotchi (DS) is basically a lock to make it to a million at this point. That will be quite an achievement, considering the last time it happened was all the way back on the GBC as you just pointed out.

By the way - thanks as always cvxfreak.
