Isn't movie region coding at the discretion of the publisher? Like with normal DVD's?

Eww american porn...thats the worst kind. It's all about bleached blond hairs, tons of make-up and silicon. Not to mention the same 3 girls (all over 30) being in 95% of the movies. That said, it might be the same in japan, I honestly dont really follow it

Yes. I've spoken to SCEE about this and they told me it's up to the individual studios to decide.

The reason that Japanese porn sucks is because they have to use pixel mosaics to censor all the good bits.

Actually the mosaic is not a requirement. You can do uncensored porn and sell tit in Japan now no problem.
When I found this out I started asking many of my friends here about what type they preferred (uncensored/censored). Most of the people I aked ( 11 men 7 women) all of them except two of the men said theypreferred mosiac censored style. The reasons why were various but most people said it's what they're used to and it's easier to get aroused by having to use imagination a bit more....

There are uncensored magazines now (altho for some reason you can't buy them in konbini yet) and in Akiba there is uncensored VHS and DVD everywhere.....

You can pick up uncensored porn in the middle of shibuya... i don't think it's legal, but it may have been decriminalised to some extent.

I coulda sworn I saw them at the Sofmap in &#26377;&#27005;&#30010; but I may be imagining things. I'll be going there on Saturday so I'll check and make sure.

I think Tetsuoxb is still in Osaka unless he moved with his new job. I'm the only Aomori GAF poster that I know of ^^; I went to a few Nebutas last year and was actually in the parade dancing thing in Aomori city. It's cute, but pretty tiring as the route is pretty long and it's hard spotting the free water areas. Not going again this year as I'm moving out a week or two before this year's Nebuta.

I just picked up "The Palace of a Virgin" UMD with Hikaru Coto (cheap -- 1800 yen).

On the main menu there's a "GAME" option. It includes a shooter minigame where HIKARUS FLY INTO THE SCREEN WITH TARGET MARKS OVER THEIR CROTCHES, AND YOUR GOAL IS TO MOVE THE CROSSHAIRS AND FIRE SPERM INTO THEM. I swear on my honor as a 5-year GAF member that I am NOT MAKING THIS UP.

Also, the video sequences are in full 16:9 widescreen and are compressed at 60 frames per second progressive -- really, really good-looking UMD.

What's interesting about this is that it's an actual game, and not some crappy DVD video game -- you have control over the crosshairs, the sprites scale and rotate, and the game keeps score with an on-screen counter. The UMD's menu also rotates in realtime (too fast to be a movie stream). It looks like Sony included enough flexibility in the UMD movie system to allow for simple Shockwave/Flash-style games.

Anyway, what is the quality of the actual content? Are these nice looking playboy/penthouse stuff, cheap amateur/gonzo fare, or something in between?

Any chance you could speak to SCEE and ask them not to be so heavy-handed in their nobbling of foreign distributors? I thought it was only first-party stuff that was supposed to be interdicted from being shipped to the UK, but (as I mentioned earlier) the porn UMDs also have the dreaded "This item cannot be shipped to United Kingdom" on them at Play-Asia.
