Story:

Prequel to the first two games. You play as John Smith Jim Peyton, a Soldier rig pilot who leaves England Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract located in America E.D.N. III in search of gold thermal energy . Once there he will discover that there is a struggle between the natives Snow Pirates who what to live in peace symbiotically with the land and the evil Military corporation that seeks to completely conquer exploit the land. After a few brief missions to teach the player the game mechanics and establish the characters and world, the player will go out on a mission where he is separated from his weapons and wanders into the hands of the natives Snow Dogs. He is caught and brought before the suspicious and stoic Native American, Asian leader. The leader has a long past with the Military corporation and his suspicion and hate leads him to believe that all people even mildly associated with the Military corporation to be an agent sent to destroy the natives Snow Pirates; and orders the players death. The player is spared when the leaders’ youthful daughter sees the goodness in him and asks for mercy. While he appears to be a cold man, in reality it is only a gruff exterior that hides the love the leader has for his daughter Pocahontas Mira; so against his better judgement he spares the player. Initially, the leader is suspicious of the player but the daughter, who is pure of heart, stands up for him. The player is also suspicious of the natives Snow Pirates, and it is only after the daughter and wise leader show him the error of his ways; that Jim begins to see how evil the both the corporations and his employers from the opening act truly are. During this time, the leader learns that the daughter was correct to blindly trust a random stranger. From this point on valiant Jim, i.e. the player, will be the only person who can save the colonists from the machinations of the evil corporation.

Gameplay:
Walkthough with a Capcom representative who gives an overview of the game:
Click.

While I’m sure the story will not breach new ground, the game itself seems to be a well polished action game that adopts innovations from other successful games(such as Dead Space and Mass effect.) So as long as you just want a decent third person shooter, and not a sequel to Lost Planet, you should consider picking this game up.

Watch this other gameplay video for footage of Rig combat, different weapons, and more enemy types:
Click.

Footage of a boss fight and indoor combat. There is some commentary from a Capcom representative in Japanese, but his voice is subdued so it doesn't become a detraction. From all of the released footage, the core game seems competent. The only question is if that is something you would be interested in.
Click.

Multiplayer
The Lost Planet 2 multiplayer type seems to be dead. But if you liked the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, LP3’s might interest you:

Survival mode:

Scenario mode:

There is also a Team Deathmatch mode.

I just realized I've had 2 since forever, must have got it on a steam sale and forgot. And I never finished 1 because it deleted my saves halfway through. It'd be a damn shame if I played this before those, wouldn't it

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Remember how big Lost Planet once was? I was one of those who waited with "next-gen" until PS3 came out... but I swear, every time I saw Lost Planet being played on a 360, I wanted to throw money at the counter and buy a 360. The environments were gorgeous and it had a solid feel to it.

Then came Lost Planet 2 and that had coop and only a few really cared about it.

And here we are today, Lost Planet 3... and no one gives a shit.

Fuck, this saddens me... I thought this franchise was gonna be end up being a lot better :(

You can tell how big the franchise is when you list the games and skipped the spin-off E.X. Troopers.
Yeah, Capcom really blew this franchise.

I loved Lost Planet 1 & 2, Capcom giving us this game shows how much they care about their dedicated LP fans.

Lost Planet 2 was one of the best coop games ever made, unique set pieces, great controls, huge monsters and so on. Really wish they would have continued on that path because it had such potential.

This could be decent but the near complete radio silence and developer don't do much to inspire confidence. Could become a cult classic but very doubtful.

Seems like it's going to be another Red Faction Armageddon, and I loved that game to death, so count me in. Too bad people don't really give the game the chance it deserves.

Man I TOTALLY feel you on this. =(

I played the Lost Planet demo that came out around one E3 and I was blown away. The snowy environment and the giant Akrids felt fresh. Fighting snow pirates. Mechs. The grappling hook. So many variations in grenades. I loved it and I played it loud.

Multiplayer demo came out and it was the first multiplayer game where I ever felt like an unstoppable player. I could win pretty much any match I was in. Went out of the way to reserve the game to get the Dilapidation map and met people on the Capcom forums. Ended up forming a little clan that we named Anbu.

The full game rolled out and I actually ended up running into a guy named Shawn Baxter, who went by the gamertag Snow Infernus. We were both trying to meet the requirements for a Capcom-held contest to win some Lost Planet swag and became friends. He joined the clan and was a great player. Little did I know that he'd become Capcom's community specialist a year or so later. At that's after we met in Las Vegas for Captivate '08.

Back on track, Lost Planet's multiplayer was amazing. It's the first and only multiplayer game I've ever really loved and was good at. I was a master with this thing.

The game looked so good on the 360, too. I was sad to see how the PS3 port looked when I got it later. Did a really shoddy job on that, but I swear the frames seemed to be upped or something.

Anyway, I've actually never played Lost Planet 2 beyond the demos. And this one I'm not so sure of. I will definitely rent it and see how this game turned out after Capcom handed it to another team. I sure will miss my hardballer, though. And the original Lost Planet will always hold a place in my heart.

Capcom releasing Lost Planet 2 showed me how much Capcom cared about their Lost Planet fans, never mind LP3. I'd like a cheap copy of LP3 though I must admit, cheapest so far is just over £20.

there is no way i'm picking this up.
can't believe i wasted £4 on lost planet 2,
i don't think i've played anything that bad for years.
the first one had so much potential, how did they mess it up so badly.

will the AI teammates actually do stuff in this one?

or atleast design the game so that it scales to how many human players are in it, rather than lazy L4D, hey you gotta carry 4 gas cans to this car and we didnt bother programming the AI to help you so yah...oh and theres a timer too and theres zombies attacking you since you're the only human and we also programmed the enemies to only focus on you too...(just replace L4D stuff with LP2 stuff, same outcome)

will there be a checkpoint system so i dont have to go all the way to the end of the train, then go all the way back up front, 40 real minutes, die while shooting glowing balls on some worm thing and have to start all the way at the beginning of the train again?

thats about as far as i got and cant remember if there was anything else that disappointed me after really liking LP1

They patched checkpoints into the train section shortly after release. And Lost Planet 2 for better or worse was a game designed for a full party of human players, or at the very least 2. The levels were designed around that, specifically the train which if you have 4 players is among the best moments in gaming I feel. Loading the missiles, having someone shoot them, all while that giant monster gets closer and closer, just great.

Lost Planet 2 was a really cool game that was built for online.

So, no impressions from anyone so far? I don't know why but I'm a bit tempted to get it. Maybe because I went in to Remenber Me expecting little and actually came away surprised by how much I liked it. Or maybe fond memories of the original Lost Planet...

sent to die

Such a promising new series when the first one came out.

The first one was the first "next gen" game I played. The PC version had such nice eye candy in DX10. Parallax bullet holes in the snow blew my mind.

This game has been sent to die indeed.

I loved the first two games but have no interest in this. I'll check out some videos at release.

I really liked the first Lost Planet, I even finished it on 360 years ago. It did the massive boss battles right.

The second game was horrible for my taste. The AI was completely retarded, I could not find proper co-op partners and the massive boss battles - that were now the focus of the game - were terrible. Terri-bad even. It left a sour taste in my mouth and I never finished the campaign.

Until early this year I thought that LP3 was going to be Dead Space 3 with awesome mecha suits and less claustrophobia. As it stands, it is more likely Generic Shooter #23.

Thanks everybody who bitched about lost planet 2. Here's your generic 3rd person shooter on unreal 3. Would have loved to see a refined version of lp2. Still, hoping this is a decent game but it looks so dull.

I'm strangely excited for this game. Perhaps because I'm in the mood for a lower b-tier game that has some good ideas and concepts, but without the final followthrough.

Yeah, same here, I have a soft spot for b-level games like this, especially third person shooters. If the game is alright on PC, I'll pick it up pretty soon.
