Marvel's Wolverine | Full Gameplay Reveal

Damn that is one ugly Jean Grey. I don't get the designs in general. They're limited only by their imagination and it looks like a live-action movie with real people wearing costumes. Why not make it look like really cool comic art?

The art direction is terrible. They made it all colorful, bright and gamey looking like Spiderman except now with Wolverine, and the characters being very realistically.. modern. Ugh.

Which part of the trailer is that? Because I've watched it three times now and cant find this moment

Also, there is ZERO dismemberment in combat in this new trailer. Only a prosthetic leg gets chopped.

I like how anything short of fellating Sony is "being miserable" to you people, even when posters are detailing exactly why they weren't impressed.
yep. some of us long-time fans are simply experiencing sony triple-a deja vu, where there's a weird sense of already having played these 'new' games. i'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with this, especially for fans of different franchises. but for some of us who aren't particularly big fans? there's just not a whole lot of 'fresh/exciting' going on with these blockbusters. &, personally? the lack of humor, & the constant, overwhelming dead serious gravitas has become exhausting. i mean, there is such a thing as occasionally amusing adult content, sony. see uncharted, or first light, for details. cheap melodrama & emotional manipulation is easy. charm/comedy is hard...

Looks about as bland as I expected it to look running at 60ps. Hopefully they have a fucking 30fps mode that looks like a next gen product with enhanced visuals.

Looks brutal, which is good. What has me concerned is the fact that I can't shake the feeling it will be a one trick pony. This is mainly down to the limitations of the character itself. I hope it turns out well.

The gameplay shown lacked agency. I think I saw Wolverine have to block and parry a couple times but everything else seemed completely on-rails.

And what are Western Devs doing trying to compete in combat mechanics with the East? None of these action games are all that compelling compared to Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry which is why the cinematics and story have to carry so much weight - which unfortunately they tend not to do.

Yeah at this point just give us Spider-Man 3, not trying to give crap to the character Wolverine but no matter how much they try people care about the main #1 characters, your Batmans, Spidermans, Iron Man's, Captain America's etc. Wolverine's lone wolf, and distance from the other X-Men makes it impossible for a video game but we'll see how they handle his personal story.

Jean Grey in a trench coat :/
Lmfao I don't think I've ever seen her wear one before.

Wolverines mask just looks terrible. The person who designed it should be fired.

Other than that it looks fun , but it's likely a wait for a sale game.

Every memey game trend was showcased with this game.

Incessant babbling
Make to female gender bend
Ugly as sin female character
"Quirky" aka annoying sidekick
Squeezing through corridors
"He's right behind me huh" humor
Literal copy and paste Sony combat dating back to The Last of Us 1

It's almost like a fucking parody of a Sony game.

I think it looks pretty awesome. Wolverine out there kicking ass and in his costume, I mean, what else do you need? It looks like there is a lot they didn't show, and that's cool as it looks like a big adventure.

It seems they read GAF. They seem to have addressed character design a little bit. There is some hope this could be ok. You will definitely have a few optional side missions to help all the gay couples in town, but they are optional.

You can tell they went overboard on the blood to distract you from the basic bitch combat. This game looked pretty terrible, and significantly worse than the new GoW.

Imagine getting mogged by third party developers at your own State of Play.

Wolverine and violence go hand in hand. Why are people saying it's too bloody? Too much gore? Wtf?

His voice sounded weird to me. But the gameplay itself looks fantastic. Preorder for sure.

It's Liam McIntyre from Spartacus. I thought it was known from the last trailer that he was doing the acting?

Ok now my hype has plummeted.

This story is gonna be shit, isn't it?

Jean Grey face tells me everything it needs to know. She will probably be a Spider-man 2 Mary Jane version 4.0. Guessing she will be doing alot of scolding on Logan and put him in his place.

Sabertooth sounds a lot closer to what I was expecting Wolverine to sound like.

Any ideas on when this takes place/universe it's in? Jean looks older here so I would think he would know her scent immediately and he calls her Red so does this take place later in the X-men life cycle?

It looks ok overall but I don't like a few things here:

- Wolverine's voice is jarring as fuck & I really don't like it

- Some of his combat and traversal animations look awkward and janky. It's like the "realism" slant just makes it look like awkward cosplay action, instead of a feral superhero doing cool shit

- His face man! It looks so bad. Like that terrible looking meme gif. Why did they try to make him look so realistic but then have those white eyes, that just seem to gape awkwardly? His mask should have at least had more inset eye lenses with a more pronounced furrowed brow to make him look angry and like a growling beast. That would have looked much better. This just looks like bad cosplay again

- I thought the gore was interesting in the first trailer but here it desperately invokes deep cognitive dissonance. I mean wow are we really supposed to root for this guy who's leaping around in an ultra realistic setting acting like a serial killer? I have no context who these mercenaries are, but it gives me no reason to justify why they should be murdered so violently. Aren't they just doing their jobs? Cyborgs or no? Then it's like Jean Grey so casually setting him up in combat with these "alley oop" kills; like she's totally fine being an accessory to brutal barbaric death with seemingly zero emotional reaction to it. It's all so super jarring and a little uncomfortable to watch honestly

- The art direction is just really bad. This "ultra realism" slant kills a lot of it for me. Like why are his hands and claws so small? I know they're realistic proportions but it just makes it look bad. His claws are his main weapon, there's a reason why, e.g. most combat games make fists, swords and weapons proportionally larger than life; to accentuate the gravity of their scale and to increase the visual weight of them in-action. There's simply none of that here and it makes him look like he's fighting with Trump sized hands and claws this size nails. It's honestly a fucking awful design choice. The Marvel vs Capcom Wolverine design is so much better for this (& Tokon by extension). Comics do a very similar thing.

- Combat still, from the very first leaked pre-alpha footage looks super shallow. No clear view of any other major gameplay or exploration systems (seems like very linear level design; no hubworld or open world from what we know). So I'm very worried this game is going to hollow as fuck. I hope they'll reveal more mechanical depth because as of right now there certainly isn't very much to get excited about.

I fear it's too late in the day for them to fix any of this so I'm just hoping there is a lot more they've yet to show to get us excited. I'm worried though because this was really the time for that. 3 months away from release…

people tend to forget that, when it comes to sony's big 5 developers, as recently as the ps3 era, naughty dog created 2 original franchises, uncharted & last of us, while sucker punch came up with infamous, 3 new original franchises in one generation. the last original sony blockbuster was horizon: zero dawn in 2017. spider-man's obviously an existing property, & the ghost series, while original, is simply a straight-forward historic samurai series with each game featuring a separate cast, much like the way of the samurai series, but set in an open world. otherwise? both santa monica & insomniac have been doing nothing but iterations of their playstation 2 original series, with insomniac now also a marvel studio...

my point is that sony's been very slow in coming up with new original blockbusters this last decade, & it's become evident, as you describe, in how very familiar the games've begun to feel. it's not a matter of the games being well produced or mechanically sound (they are!), it's a matter of fresh ideas & exciting possibilities, features i saw little evidence of during the state of play. instead, i saw insomniac's wolverine, uncharted style...

the truth? i'd love to be as excited about present day sony blockbusters as i used to be. but this stuff ain't it:

what is this aesthetic bro. just ultra bland and its like diet naughty dog gameplay. the run animation is terrible. take away the blood and im not sure where any of the meat for the combat is, just clunky a to awesome i guess.

After watching this on a 4K TV. Hype is down to zero. Only thing that will move me now is universal consensus amongst adults with the mental age of 30 or above that the story is worth the time.

Literally not one frame of gameplay, graphics or line of dialogue that didn't make me want to cringe. It's like a children's movie disguised to be "mature" with insta vanishing boba jelly blood effects. Loud but hollow. Spiderman 2, but linear and angry. Everything is the same old set piece and chase sequence with graphics that even indie games are now putting to shame. Without the high production value in cutscenes, this is a total dumpster fire as far as I'm concerned. Game has great IQ though. I'll give it that. And by that, I mean Image Quality.

Going to stay away from the thread now that I've got it off my chest. This is just my subjective opinion, so I don't mean to provoke anyone excited for this, such as fans of the comics or insomniac's signature recipe. Just super disappointed. With an already crazy backlog, I just ain't got time for this shit. Peace!
