That's what YOU think.

Well I said they would both do 4m+ about 3-4 months ago so I can't see them slowing just yet ;-)

You really have to look at the sales pattern compared to other titles to see just how unprecidented the figures are.

I began (first 5-6 weeks) by comparing BT2 to Gran Turismo:
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Gran+Turismo

Which started off as a reasonable comparison until BT just kept selling long after GT had dropped away in it's lifetime.

Look at BT2 versus other big titles:

Dragon Quest VIII:
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Dragon+Quest+VIII

It's only a matter of time before it passes what has to be considered as the biggest game series in Japan over the last 20 years (consistently).

Final Fantasy VII:
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Final+Fantasy+VII

The record breaking title will be history in a couple of weeks

Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Pokemon+Ruby+%2F+Sapphire

You'd have to give it a small chance at 5.5m- the game should get a healthy boost around xmas / new year.

Pokemon Red / Green / Blue
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Pokemon+Red+%2F+Green+%2F+Blue

Well this it the only way BT2 is going to get beaten I'm afraid! It's likely that no game will ever have the legs Pokemon R/G/B had!!

Impressive stuff indeed.

BT2 vs AC:WW is also an interesting one, almost identical although you can see BT gaining...
http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Brain+Training+2&name2=Animal+Crossing%3A+Wild+World

Nintendo needs to do a $5 price drop on Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, Brain Training 2, Animal Crossing WW, English Training, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS, Nintendogs, Jump! Superstars and WarioWare: Touched!. That'd help them dominate the charts some more.

When will this hardware trend change?

It's actually getting a bit boring seeing DS dominate the charts every week.

the DS sales pattern from DSL launch through to Jan 2007 is going to be totally insane! Japan has never seen anything like this

LTD :
DS Lite : 2 640 209
PSP : 3 603 901
NDS : 6 553 244

NDS+DSL : 9 193 453
this means that dsl alone will sell around NDS LTD by end of 2006, if patter continues

You mean PSP LTD?

If that's what you're referring to, it'll be waaay before the end of 2006. If it keeps going at this rate, it'll be around 7-8 weeks from now when that happens.

um... I meant nds... it will sell ~1.5mil in december
then it has to keep selling 150K per week til that month... something like that?

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Why did the 360 go up?

When FF 3 and Pokemon are out DSL +200.000
weekly,that'll be so awesome.
but then again DS is just a fad and people just get it for novelty it will soon stop selling /monobots :p

GBASP after 18 weeks: 1.15M
DSL after 18 weeks: 2.64M
Time for GBASP to reach 2.64M: ~48 weeks

"GBA after SP" after 18 weeks: 295K
"DS after DSL" after 18 weeks: 455K
Time for "GBA after SP" to reach 455K: ~33 weeks

DS after 18 weeks: 2.02M
PSP after 18 weeks: 1.17M
GBM after 18 weeks: 433K

The above data in graph form

Thats Ghost recon selling roughly 5k in Japan on 360. Mildly impressed. Poor Spectral whatever isnt in the top 30. LTD is 127k m-create wise I think.

So he's not nearly as easy to get looking good as Pac-Man, but I figured if it was going to be a game character, it might as well be first-party.

Holy crap at the DS Lite. It's selling 1 on 1 with Mario statistically.

10 Million, here we come!

P.S. Joshua, we need our "in X weeks, at current pace, DS will be at Y amount" stuff! :lol

200.000 + (or maybe a little more) sounds right for FF3, but i wouldn't be surprised if we see 350.000-400.000 for the first week of pokemon.

I remember some months back there were a number of different opinions on how well DS Lite would be selling in the coming months, but I could not find it. Maybe it wasn't in a Media Create thread, or I was just looking in the wrong ones. I know my estimates at the time are below what the reality is; I didn't think they'd consistently be better than 100K past April.

However, since the year is now half over and there's plenty of data to work with, I can do a pretty guess-free year-end extrapolation for each system (or hardware family) based on its 2005 total, and how it has done so far in 2006 versus this time in 2005. I do think this will overestimate everything, though, for a variety of reasons. This year there won't be a big GBA bump due to introduction of a new model. Due to low DS supply the original model doesn't seem like it can sell nearly what it did last year. Increased competition from PS3 and Wii. That DS would have to have a week of 2 million if it really were to consistently do 3 times as well as last year.

I'm predicting the top 10 to be at the very least:

1. New Super Mario Bros.
2. Brain Age 2
3. Brain Age
4. Final Fantasy XII
5. Pokemon Diamond
6. Pokemon Pearl
7. Animal Crossing WW
8. English Training DS
9. Winning Eleven 9
10. Final Fantasy III

You can scramble the order around, but they're all million sellers.

Well, if it's the Famitsu Top 100 chart that we're talking about, then I'm guessing that Pokemon Diamond/Pearl will be combined into one entry. So feel free to add another title to the list. :)

Tetris DS? :D

Maybe even MKDS can make it into the top 15 since Famitsu usually starts in the final week of the previous year in a two-week period.

In honor of this week's theme:

(Sorry for the bad quality but I couldn't find a clean shot of Kirby, plus I lost all my work, and I just had the final grouping in my clipboard)

I think Brain Age 2 will take lead, it's already is currently. NSMB is 650k behind and for every 100+k (weekly) Mario will sell in the next few weeks before dropping below, BA2 will sell 50K and remain consistent. I don't see Mario selling 50k weekly like evergreen BA2 2-3 months from now.

But part of PT2's sales came from 2005, which is why I placed them that way.

Still possible for BT2 to lead, though.

If NSMB can sell that many in three days, I think it's safe to say that D/P may just smash records and chart above FFXII.

Time will tell*

*Yes, I currently am listening to Utada Hikaru.

Anyone been making predictions as to when the next DS+Lite sales will be under 100k?

Checking those would make for some entertainment :D

Working on translation now...
I predicted NSMB would break 2m mark after 6 weeks and this is my prediction last week:

I think it will do something like this in the next weeks:

150k ---> 120k ---> 100k ---> 90k ---> 80k ---> 80k ....

I don't think its sales fell below 80k anytime soon.
It will do more than 4m easily and IMO it will become the best selling DS games except Pokemon D/P.

Good prediction so far. :D
