So Amazon's final Lightning Deal for today was StressEraser Portable Biofeedback device. Basically a portble pulse-ox monitor designed to help you relax easier. This is what the Vitality Sensor will do. The Lightning Deal sold out. Hardly a strong measure, but it does show that there are some people out there looking for how to relax.

I still think Wii 2 in Fall 2011 in Japan and Spring 2012 elsewhere (or Spring/Fall 2012 with 3DS's delay) would be best, but maybe Vitality Sensor will do something for Wii. It'd have almost no use in traditional games, but if Nintendo can get it out there and hype it enough to make people aware of it, maybe. Hopefully they'll push it to the next system and use that as part of the "excuse" to come out with a new system, though. :D
I can't imagine them managing to get an HD line-up together before Fall 2012 anywhere, unless they're really going to launch an HD system on one core game and a bunch of casual titles.

Well, that's a missed opportunity. I wonder why it takes so long to resupply anyway.
If you tell Sony you want 2m by wednesday and 1m by saturday 3 months in advance...I doubt there would be any problem at all. Problem is when you undership ignoring that everything pointed that way since long ago and then you want order/manufacture/distribute an extra million in a day.

Capcom will still get away with 2 shipments every week most likely. Not like those PSP software production plants have much else to do anyway.

PD: It would have been quite funny if this was a really front-loaded franchise and a way later december release...on a cartridge-based Nintendo handheld. I wouldn't leave katanas in Capcom HQ in that case.

If you are so sure about it why don't you predict. Oh yeah, participated 0 out of 26 times :)

Because I really don't see the point! It makes more sense to talk about trends and patterns than it does to see who guesses the closest number. I'm not saying the Prediction League is bad, but it's not my style. I remember doing it in the old NPD thread half-heartedly by just finding the set I thought seemed most realistic, then I altered them slightly and actually came out on top one month. :lol

That said, I know a lol-worthy prediction when I see one. I cannot imagine DK Returns debuting around 100K. It just seems so out of character for the franchise. It's Nintendo's only big December release, the holiday is underway, stores are packed, and Mario Sports Mix came out of nowhere and sold 85K. Never say never, but I would be shocked beyond belief.

Well, the point to me is being amazed at how wrong could you be just a few days away from the real thing, so not so much being close to the number to win a single-digit amount of people worldwide but like you said if you see trends and patterns. For example I just fucked MHP3 up twice, first doing an over 2m prediction when they didn't ship as much and now just as I predict week 2 azalyn says they will only reach my amount 6 days later and shipped, I could still change it but to me that's the fun in it. But since participation is low for such a big week I feel obliged to dare everyone to try it.

Remember Ninokuni a month ago when I said it was looking rather grim in comgnet pre-orders but you said it'd be fine? Azalyn just put up its shop stock/preorders for this week and it has 18/8 for shiren and 20/5 for ninokuni. But since you said so I'm sure it will come back to haunt me no matter what I do.

By that logic, MHP3 would have outsold Pokemon BW and DQIX in its first week and claimed the new debut record. We all know how that turned out.

If Ninokuni doesn't sell very well, then well, I sure wouldn't be the only one who'd be wrong about that.

I'd rather my intuition be wrong rather than be correct on the basis of Azalyn or Comgnet random preorder numbers, but that's just me.

Let's go for the real prediction. What's the home console that will underperform more this December comparing to last year? Wii or PS3?

I think the PS3. I am pretty sure about it since last year when FFXIII was released, the PS3 saw a huge spike in hardware sales. The PS3 doesnt have a game like FFXIII in this year's holiday, so i cant really see how it will manage to match last year's performance. I think that the PS3 sales would still be good though, but not as good as last year's December.

What I don't get is why MHP2G can have a huge restock in its second week (552k copies sold) but Sony/Capcom will only be able to ship another 700k MHP3 copies in two weeks.

There was something weird with comgnet though, because MHP3 had 5k preorders but only 3k sales (which unlike preorders I'm not sure its over BW or DQIX numbers), which is weird since I think preorders and sales points are the same, so a title should usually sell its preorders and normal pick-ups, f.e Graces PS3 just sold 717pt and it had ~450pt preorders. Maybe comgnet continued taking preorders for further shipments, thus demand actually being higher than those (in comgnet stores) but not supply.

Anyway, there's no way Ninokuni does Shiren-level sales but its interesting that his small store gets a similar amount of copies. Last month when I said I wasn't totally sure it'd have a grand debut I thought it'd do 300k...and I just predicted 162k. To my defense though, I usually go more by YSO guys which have Ninokuni on a 140-160k range, highest being 200k, lowest 60k. (Its difficult to have much intuition from 10000km away!) :D

We're assuming 2m from the PR but I think the latest azalyn gossip on it was 1.5-1.8m. So it could have been 1.5m all along this first week with 700k on the 2nd and 500k on the 3rd.

Playing devil's advocate here, but who says Capcom isn't counting in that 2m the units shipped this week hitting retailers tomorrow or Wednesday?

I don't really keep track of the point sites or YSO, so I'm not really sure how to comment on those. In general, how well do they do?

The Ni No Kuni commercials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3URtnwp_baI&feature=player_embedded) are really selling it with this holiday/xmas angle.

Could it become the "it" holiday video game release for parents buying for kids? To what extent do folks feel it would boost sales?

I know that xmas isn't the exact same sort of thing as in NA, but it seems (at least from my ignorant googling) there are gifts given around the holiday period and it seems like Level 5 is marketing this as a sort of xmas game.

Comgnet serves for very similar games, something like Graces PS3 with Vesperia PS3, very similar preorder pts, very similar sales pts, its very unlikely actual sales will be much different. Extrapolating is a no-no (what square2002 did here lol), comparing apples to oranges is also a no-no, but as a general rule, if an upcoming game isn't in the top20 preorders that's set to do really low 99.9% of the time. Azalyn is just a store, anecdotal evidence as in selling 400 copies of MHP3 this first week being the record for his shop.
YSO guys are just 20-30 japanese (I suppose) predicting like us, they can fail just like we do but all them being wrong by much is unlikely. F.e their predictions for GT5 week, you can see GT5 was overplayed a few times, mario sports usually downplayed but there's always someone who gets it pretty close.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Thats what i call a system seller....i would be shocked if Sony wouldn't secure MH exclusive for their next handheld.

So...where did the extra 146,467 come from if Capcom only shipped 2 million copies?

And Amazon.co.jp is STILL out of stock of the game. If you order now it will ship on... December 21st.

A second shipment?

Capcom's PR stated clearly that they shipped 2 million in the 1st week...

It's even in the headline: "Capcom's "Monster Hunter Freedom 3" Ships 2 Million Units
in the First Week!"

Capcom did not say they shipped only 2 million copies. They put out a press release stating they have shipped 2 million copies, which means they have passed the 2 million milestone. Remember when Square Enix put out the press release about FFXIII having shipped 1 million copies? The weekly sales turned out to be a lot more than 1 million. Same thing.

Yes, if they can have MH4 locked down for a early-ish release they may still be in with a chance, in Japan at least.

That is impressive. What is the DS's best selling week?

EDIT: This puts it above FFVII and into the top 5 of best opening weeks, right?
650k or something, if memory serves me.
