MLB The Show 22 Coming April 5th to PS5, Xbox Series X...AND SWITCH

They don't want to introduce Uncharted to PC players with that first Uncharted game.
Have you played it recently? I did like a year ago...and It aged quite bad. For a new player it would make sure he wouldn't try that IP ever again.

I kid you not but the first Uncharted game came out 15 years ago already, lmao. On its way to celebrate 2 decades already.
Actually believe it or not I played UC1 for the first time last year on PS Now for PC. I didn't think it was that bad. Obviously not the best of the series but still. It was OK. And it was a good introduction to the characters.

I mean...the Gamepass thing was a given since it happened last year.

Switch...i think they teased it as well on twitter.
Nah. Game Pass was not a given. This is a Sony game, not a Microsoft game. If it was published by Microsoft then yes of course it would be on Game Pass day one. But just because it was on Game Pass day one last year does not mean it was going to be there day one again this year. I don't think there is any precedent where sequels/next year's version were day one on Game Pass because the preceding game was. You're assuming The Show will be on Game Pass day one every year going forward? I don't think many would agree with that.

I imagine that most people are not paying $1 for one month of GamePass only to cancel their sub after one month
Yeah. How many are truly using GP that way? I doubt it’s all that many. $5/month is my real price , and that’s when using the prepaid card trick, which is an investment not everyone want to do.

Still, awesome for anyone who’re already subbing. I wouldn’t touch a game like this if I had to pay full price but I did play MLB 21 for a bit and will play MLB 22 as well.

Not necessarily, if MLB were unhappy with the way things turned out or wanted to use Gamepass as a way to introduce the series to Xbox, they wouldn't have done the deal again this year.

Obviously it worked out well for both parties, and decided to continue the deal going.
I don't think deals like that are one year shots

This game seems to be pretty good, but most countries in the world don't care about baseball. If EA leaves the FIFA IP (or if they decide to share it with more publishers) and I was Sony I'd get it -plus any other licenses needed from teams, competitions and players- and would put this guys (or a new second team of this studio) with some former FIFA devs to make a football game.

And would also acquire Sega to use all these licenses on Football Manager too.

A great simulator, a great manager, and EA would still be free to continue with their FUT casino.

Last year I was the one who said in the announcment thread “I will try if it's coming to Game Pass” people were saying they will eat their shoe if thet happens...lol, Well it came to Game Pass (Neogaf had a meltdown thread about it) and I'm a man of my word so I tried it and it happens I liked it enough to buy the Jackie Robinson Edition the one with the Series version. This morning I played a franchise match and blew out the Twins 13-0 after I went 0-2 in the weekend series against them, I had fun and was thinking about MLB'22 and if it would come to Game Pass too, well I got my answer. As I'm new to the series '21 was the first game of the series I played do they change a lot between the games year over year or is it more like roster updates and some graphic tweaks?

I wouldn’t expect big improvements

What incentive is there now?

It’s just an EA game at this point.

I hope Sony doesn’t focus on it at all, and uses San Diego talent to make other exclusive games instead
True, but EA at least made updates to Fifa and Madden right around the PS5 launch. new next gen hair tech, next gen character models, even new physics and animations in Madden. MLB came out six months later and basically phoned it in. So it's worse than an EA game at this point.

I think they should just sell the San Diego studio to either MLB or EA. Just a waste of first party resources making switch games.

The only way that doesn't happen is if somehow Sony manages to leverage their contract with them...it was a Sony game last year as well and it still made its way to Gamepass.

I do wonder how Sony is analyzing all the data they are getting from Xbox right now. Sales vs Gamepass players, etc...interesting times ehad.

why would Sony get data about Xbox.

Sony is just the developer. Deals can be made with MLB directly as they control the license.

Sony now making Switch games making them similar to MS with games on all platforms including Switch and PC.

Welcome to the port club Sony.

It would be interesting to know if they re-upped with GP or if this was part of the prior deal. If they re-upped, I wouldn't be shocked to see this game featured in Sony's expected streaming service. The rationale for keeping primarily SP games away from a day 1 subscription might not extend to live service games (which sports basically are, with the caveat you start over each year).

GamePass Day 1

I can imagine this is pretty frustrating for Sony.
I assume MLB was happy with their game pass deal for this to return on game pass too.
Did this game stay in the top 50 in the USA?
I know in the UK where no one cares about baseball, I think it only ever briefly entered the top 50.

Sony doesn't have data on how many copies were sold by a game released by one of their studios and how many players are playing said game on that platform? Can you really be that naive?
What's next? Sony San Diego is working on Xbox consoles without Xbox devkits? lmao

If people are doing the $1 bs over and over, I've yet to see a single person actually prove it. They can easily go ahead and pull their payment history to back it up. Guess what? They never can because they aren't telling the truth. Show the various $1 payments each month. Some people think people are stupid and don't know all the various hoops someone would need to jump through in order to do what these folks are claiming.

Different payment methods (like most systems that offer this type of deal or promotion they track your payment details to ensure you can't get the deal again), new email address/live accounts each time. Who the hell is doing this over and over? They're taking out a new debit or credit card every time they subscribe to a new month of Game Pass? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

MLB The Show finished #9 in the 2021 NPD ranking just below RE8, and without Xbox Digital Sales (not in NPD). It’s pretty good for a sports game but not as good as NFL22.

Of course those good numbers are probably specific to the US.

If the lockout keeps going, this might be the only way to experience major league baseball.

Neither is the NFL, but it's a massive cash cow for EA because the market is the entirety of the US. So, it's even bigger with baseball considering its probably more popular in Japan than the US.

When devs put away old consoles?

They should have just moved to next-gen only for the real 22 version and just update the rosters and re-badge the 21 version as 22 for X1 and PS4. That's the typical Madden/Fifa strategy for long-term cross-gen support. LOL

I don't think anyone here in the UK touched the game, other than mild curiousity.

Wonder if the games do well in Japan, as they like baseball right?

Wouldn't surprise me if this isn't actually way more profitable for Sony.

Consider that as they aren't publishing the game outside of PS, they'll just be taking a fixed royalty and the publisher will be the one forking out platform licensing fees from their cut. So their income per unit/transaction might not change that greatly but their addressable market will be much larger.

I couldn't care less, last year's i didn't even download it, but I recognize the strength of the franchise and kudos to Ms for having it day one once again

What's the pre-paid card trick? Mine comes out to about $10 a month because I bought 4 3-month GP Ultimate cards at $30 because of BF sales.

You’re conflating different things lol understand your error and hit me back.

Meanwhile Sony leaders are standing there being spineless as fuck, having the audacity to sell the game 70$ for their audiences while giving it for free on their competitor and be fine with it 🙃

We went over this last year—Sony can’t do anything about it right now because MLB are the producers of the XS/1 version.

Microsoft and MLB cut a deal. Sony has to recoup costs somehow and since they aren’t spinning up their own service anytime soon…

i wish i liked this game. The hitting is decent. The fielding is almost tolerable. But the pitching sucks.

Gamepass is an insane thing. Playing a Sony developed game day one on Xbox when it’s $70 on their consoles. Even got MLB to market it primarily for Xbox.

I played it for years but jumped to it on Xbox last year.

For those who havent played this series, it's the best baseball game out there. There's various kinds of modes too from coach only mode (like a PC sim) to traditionally playing it with your godly or shitty reflexes.

We live in a world where Switch gets supported before PC. Haven't owned The Show since '18, but I'm still hopeful. Good to see Showtime on the cover. He definitely deserved it this year.

Sony are seriously asleep at the wheel again…dropping your own first party studio game on a rival console for free the first time you could write off as being caught off guard but for them to release it again the same way and expect your userbase to still pay full price for it……shows you how dumb the people running your company are.

Well, no. I don't think we can expect the annual releases to be on Game Pass just because the prior game. Getting The Show on Game Pass last year made a lot of sense in order to try and build up an audience. I don't think people would be surprised either way if it was or was not on Game Pass this year. Maybe Microsoft signed a multi year deal with MLB? Who knows! Now in 2023 I think it could go either way. You can expect it to be there because it's been there the past two years, but you wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.
