This trailer is, ugh, though. Bear in mind - 1998, and about 4 months of work on the Quake 2 engine. Looked great at the time, though.

For comparison, here's the 2001, Unreal engine trailer:

I don't know, even though this game may never come out, it's impressive that they keep trying, and not only that, but both trailers look pretty amazing for their time. One must wonder why the hell they can't manage to complete it though...

Bah you need to sign in to download. 3dgamers also have it, and you dont need an account.
Im not sure if ive seen this trailer before, but I sure remember the last trailer from e3, I think it was 2001? The game looked great. And now, DNF is the defenition of vaporware. Wonder what happend?
edit: Just seen the trailer, kicks ass. Ands so early in development. Damn you 3DR!

I wonder what they are thinking really. There are lots of fans of Duke Nukem 3D that would very much like to se a followup.
It doesnt have to break new ground or be the best game in the world. It could simply be like Duke Nukem 3D with a better engine, new story and new levels. Is that so hard to do?!

But both trailers show that they keep trying to break new ground, yet fall behind and have to start over because they have such a small team. (25)

damn that 2001 trailer rocked so much.....

It still looks good now, IMO.

While the game will forever remain the butt of endless jokes, I still feel when it eventually comes out we'll all be quite surprised, at least going by the effort from the other trailers. To scrap the content in the 2001 trailer for something even better is really impressive. Unless of course, by now George is so depressed that they're just trying to get the game done in any way possible.

I also found it interesting that 3D Realms posted a new job listing on July 9th for a level editor, and that whoever gets hired (along with the rest of the team I'd imagine) gets a cut of the profits on each copy of the game sold. Now that's motivation to bust your ass on the game, and not do a half-assed job.

I watched both videos and then dreamed about DNF using the FarCry engine...

I had a tear watching the trailer with the DN theme.

I'll need to watch these videos later tonight.

I agree with goodcow. Duke Nukem 3D was awesome for its time. I don't think 3Drealms decided to pack it all in and tease us with vaporware. One of the reasons they might be keeping quiet right now is the impending releases of Doom 3 and Half Life 2. Let the hype for those two games die down and then start pimping your game.

Not the first time i see the 2001 trailer, but damn does it kick ass, still impress me. Personally, i would prefer getting DNF with these graphics and kickass gameplay, than keeping delays forever because they're changing graphic engines constantly.

I'd love Duke Nukem Forever as a Xenon launch title..

hell, i bet if MS bought exclusivity, that would sell alot of xenonboxes.

All the trailers have been great, god knows what possed Brossand to keep fucking postponing it. Using Q2 engine never hurt HL. (Q1 modified if you believe some people).

Why didn't 3D Realms just develop their own engine in-house for DNF? They practically re-wrote all of the Unreal engine now anyway.

My guess is they thought if they'll use a licsenced engine it will cut the development time....

I dont get why they didnt trash this a long time ago. 6 years in the making is crazy. How much have they spent on developing this game?

How do you figure? Duke Nukem was never really a mainstream title and especially after it's absence for so many years? I highly doubt it could be considered a system seller.

EDIT: BTW, do they keep changing the story AND the engine technology? I thought they just kept restarting from scratch with new engines but it looks like they're changing the entire story, too.

When DNF finally ships...they better have a CD with nothing but the various versions of LameDuke

The 2001 trailer can also be found at gamespot if you have a complete account. I'd play the 2001 version , it still looks pretty fun from that trailer. But whatever, its their time and their money, if it still looks like a fun game whenever they decide to release it I'll try it out.

Three years later, and I'm still impressed with the 2001 E3 trailer. Almost as much as when I first saw it. I hope to God that they took all the cool shit from the 2001 version, and just upgraded the hell out of the graphics engine. They had some awesome stuff going on there, like the mine cart chase, the riot shield showing bullet impacts, boat ride, the motorcycle, the crane, the monster in the fountain of the Mirage (Menage, lol) casino, etc.

The screenshots from Nov. 1999 were like light years beyond any game at the time. This one in particular had me so hyped up for Duke4:
