Well when Jericho was in trouble it worked for them buy sending over 20 tons of nuts to CBS

Considering how the second season turned out, I'm not so sure that it was a good thing that they were able to bring the show back

The old "OT a week before" rule ended a long ago. So technically it is supposed to go up on Monday.

Given that they filmed this season pretty much knowing that it's the final season, I suspect that we'll have a definitive close to the series, so extending it would likely do more harm than good.

I know they talked about having a 7-year plan, but I doubt that this is the year 5 they envisioned.

These "plans" are basically oneliners stating what that year is going to be about. They make up the story from week to week and they sure don't know what would've happened in their seventh year. In fact they now might have condensed what they had for years five to seven into one great final adventure. No filler.

No.

More is not always better. PoI is already suffering from stakes lacking tension due to the need to fill 22-23 episodes a season, as we all saw from season 4. At this point, I do not believe that, had they stuck to the 7-yr plan, we would've received a satisfying seasons 5 or 6.

Trust the writers and crew to deliver a satisfying, emotionally resonant ending within the limit they've received. In the end, we'll remember that longer and more fondly than two extra seasons of filler.
