Random thoughts.

You made me smile and almost cry you bastard.

I don't like talking about myself in here but GAF has been really supportive for me throughout this ordeal.

I'm mostly alone in this adventure and with your kind words I'm kicking all sorts of ass.
We're all on this wild crazy ride, called life, together. ♡ We might be forced to face the end station alone, but that doesn't mean we can't draw the strength we need to do so from our fellow man.

...I can't think of a single good song by Prince...
...like for most of that calibre of artist, with similar genres under their belt, and of that eras he was popular in, I can find at least 1 song I like... but not here.
and it's not only that I don't like them, I actively find it hard to listen to them without getting a strong urge to turn it off.
so that's kinda weird. like I legit find his music unbearable to listen to.

raspberry beret? I'd rather listen to cats screaming at eachother.
purple rain? cut my ears off please!
I wanna be your lover? well, I wanna be in a world where that song doesn't exist...

When Doves Cry is my jam, but maybe I'm just a basic bitch.

Fans estimated Joker burns about $6B cash in that giant pile in The Dark Knight.

There was around $8T in the US money supply (M2) in 2008.

So Joker lowered inflation by ~0.08%.

If his impact was baked into the market, Joker would've saved people about $150 on a $200K home. The Hero We Needed during The Great Recession.

That is some funny shit 😄

I feel pretty much the same about the actor Ethan Hawke.

He's not great, not horrible, just average and forgettable.

Went to acting school and was average/below average.

Showed up in Hollywood and they went "Sure, whatever, why not".

Say Word Wow GIF by Justin

Granted, the guy's personality was pretty off-putting -- vain, seemingly stuck in his own head and imagination -- but damn, his delivery as a musician and creativity as a writer...I think he was pretty damned notable (for good and ill).

Perhaps an acoustic version would change your mind :messenger_beaming:

nah...I legitimately find his music revolting.
not even that acoustic cover can save it to my ears, and I am usually a fan of acoustic covers... but when the original is too far gone, not even that helps.

and don't get me wrong, I honestly find it weird myself that I find his music that bad. it makes no sense.
it's not often that this happens with big household names in the music business, and especially especially not with people that are on such an insane level of fame.

like I'm not a big fan of the Beatles, but I like some of their songs, and even the ones I don't like are not offensive to me.

with with Prince, I feel like Randy in that one South Park episode, where he tries to listen to the cool music the kids listen to, and to him it sounds like someone is farting into the mic every couple of seconds.

that's how Prince's music comes across to me.
it's not just that I don't find it to be all that great, or that I think it's overrated... no, I can't even tolerate it running in the background.

it's like he wrote the perfect lyrics, and composed the perfect melodies to stimulate a part of my brain that triggers me to recoil from it.

I was going to respond to this with my opinions on Kojima...but imma be positive!

Real Talk Though: One of the best concerts I have ever been to was a Prince concert. At the time I was in a regional position at large retailer and I went to concerts multiple times a week. I had heard of him sure, but I was never a huge fan. His performance was amazing. I still wouldn't say I like his songs but GODDAMN I was in awe of the stage presence he had and his technical abilities.

I don't question his talent at all btw. nor am I some music snob (after all I have a song by some funny Australians singing about accidentally ordering a taxidermy instead of a taxi while shouting weird noises into the mic in my Spotify favourites playlist 🤣...).

it really just feels like he made the perfect music for my brain to reject... expertly crafted in a way that I just hate every part of it somehow, with the precision of high quality active noise cancelling headphones, the sound waves he pressed on his albums perfectly counteract what I find tolerable to listen to.

it's so weird.

I've decided to no longer write, "you"

From now on it's, "uou"

To me, it looks better, looks symmetrical, and just makes plain sense, because as uou know, English is weird.

after their, they're, there...
after your, you're...
after could of, should of...
and more recent worse and worst...
the newest trend of words among native English speakers to get mixed up is "a part" and "apart"...

and yeah it's mostly native speakers, specifically americans, that I started to notice in the last couple of months. that new feature on twitter to see where an account is from helps to make sure.

it always starts with a few, and then is spreads like wildfire everywhere, as people read it, apparently think that's the correct usage of that word, and copy it.
the sinking literacy rate probably doesn't help either.

"which [insert media product and/or activity here] would you wish you'd be able to experience again for the first time?"
is a weird question, because the answer should always be either none/nothing, or something you actually did not enjoy.

"I loved [game xyz] so much! I wish I could experience it again for the first time!"

NO YOU DON'T!
experiencing something again for the first time directly implies your original memory of that thing is wiped out.
this means you can't even appreciate the fact that you are able to experience it again for the first time, since you'd have forgotten you experienced ever before it in the first place.
and on top of that it could be a worse experience than the one you had to forget to do this.

part of why you liked that thing so much that you "wish to experience it for the first time again" could be all the surrounding factors that aren't there anymore in this "redo" you are being offered, and therefore you'd risk trading the memory of a great experience for a lesser one.

if you on the other hand chose something you didn't like, say a game you absolutely hated, or a movie you hated the first time you played/saw it, then wiping out that memory and giving you a second go could actually maybe improve that first time experience, because maybe now the surrounding circumstances are just right for you to now appreciate it more.
