Funny thing the item you couldn't find is what I find to be the games biggest flaws, the glimmer of suspended crystals is way too subtle,
like seriously out side of 1 plot thing, that is the biggest flaw I can think of in the game, length is perfect (10 hours for my first playthrough, ), bosses are solid, weapons and upgrades are great, the duke is a fun characters, gunplay is fun like it was in 7, but 8 address the lack of enemy variety 7 suffered from (though 7 is still an a+ game to me, 8 is the best re since 4)
I can't understate how happy I am that capcom righted the ship after 6
plus having a fantastic mercenaries mode again is great.

The only crystal I missed (must've been one) was in that underground cave area where you pick up the boat key. Just couldn't find it...

yeah the glimmers need to be easier to spot, but if that's the harshest criticism I can give, I think capcom did things right,

any tips for mercs?

Like builds, abilities, weapons and upgrades?

I was never going to use infinite ammo for anything thankfully.

The handcannon is actually the gun that trivializes the game if you're playing without infinite ammo. It's basically a smidge bit of a step down from a magnum in terms of power but it uses rifle ammo so there's plenty to find and buy.

We got everyone's favourite tall vampire, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, voiced and mo-capped by actor Maggie Robertson, to perform famous Resident Evil Quotes! We've got something about a Jill Sandwich, complete global saturation and even a bit of Jack Baker sprinkled in for good measure too.

So whether you want to step on Ethan Winters or just see Lady D do her best Nemesis or Albert Wesker impression, you're already in the right place.

Finished the game yesterday, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Had something for every RE fan, and I liked that. Fascinating scares too in one particular location (also my favourite part of the game). I'm looking forward to what they churn next.

Here are some photos I took.

Speed. For the village invest in speed and your pistol as far as abilities go. All you need is the pistol upgraded as much as possible and speed modifiers and damage. Learn the level layouts and where the exit is for each stage, that way you can time your engagements and completion times so you're already in the exit area when you've killed everything.

Just watched a retired porn star beat the game on Hardcore, on her first run. To all of the guys that said Hardcore on first run was too hard or whatever other excuse, let it sink in: Sasha Grey is a better gamer than you :p

Before anyone gets offended, I'm just teasing. And to be fair, she struggled quite a bit on the final boss. But still: perseverence won out, and RE8 gives you more than enough ammo so that was never an issue. It's really not that difficult, y'all.

Village of Shadows, on the other hand... now THAT's the difficulty you need NG+ weapons on lol

IGN comments are funny, knowledgeable, passionate... and sometimes pretty weird. We showed Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu (Maggie Roberston) some of our favorite (and thirstiest...) IGN Comments and got her to respond in a way only Lady D could.

Lady Alcina Dimitrescu was a stand out character in Resident Evil Village and the internet went crazy (and thirsty) for her. Actress Maggie Robertson, who plays Lady Dimitrescu kindly agreed to read some of the weirdest comments and respond as Lady Dimitrescu. She does not disappoint!

I just bought this game on PS5 for some reason even though I won't play it until the PSVR2 is released

I refuse to play flatscreen in a first person RE game after the greatness that was RE7

But there isnt even VR support for this game like there was for RE7 lol. You are waiting for nothing.

Why buy the game when no vr mode has been announced especially if you arnt gonna play it on a normaly tv, and psvr2 not gonna be out till next march onwards so even if they did announce a vr patch the game would be well reduced by then

Hopefully something as i thought someone said sony had paid for something for village, but apart from half hr demo a week early and reveal at sony event there was nothing, and if sony had paid for that then that must be biggest waste of cash ever , i must admit playing 21 in re7 is amazing

I just got this and I'm playing on PS5. What are the best sound options to choose if I'm playing with headphones? I also don't know if I should turn virtual surround on or off.

Someone earlier in the thread said it's one of the best-looking games out there. I don't disagree. I'm not saying it's a showcase but it really does look damn good.

turn virtual surround sound on if you are using headphones.

then go to ps system settings and make sure 3d audio is on.

virtual surround sound is for people who dont have 5.1 surround speakers or headphones

Just completed the mansion after the Castle, omg this part was total genius.

They don’t make horror movies like this. Capcom really outdid themselves here.

I could never play this in VR 😫

Hello everyone.
I have a quick question.
I finally have time to play this game and I don't know if I should buy the digital or disc version.
I will play on PS4, but I will buy a PS5 later this year and want to make sure I can upgrade the game later to play on PS5.
Not backwards compatibility but the upgraded version.
I read on PS+ store and it says that the digital version includes both PS4 and PS5 so that's ok, but is this the same for the PS4 disc version?
I always prefer the disc versions because I can get them cheaper and I also like to collect them.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I just got this one yesterday along with Returnal. I am enjoying the game quite a bit. I just got to castle D. And it has been fun. One thing i found pretty stupid is when Ethan is next to the van after what happened in his house. It is like the fucking van appeared in the middle of nowhere. There is no road nor a cliff from where the van could have fallen off of. I feel the tension on the game and it has been fun.

Based on trophy and achievement tracking (using the one for completing the game on at least casual) completion rates for the story are reaching the 75-80% range. That’s really good.

Okay, so...I've gotten all the achievements so far for everything I can do outside Mercenaries mode, knife-only, and beating the game on Village of Shadows difficulty.

Is the game really very hard on VOS? I've got a maxed-out S.T.A.K.E. magnum with infinite ammo, so I think I would do fine for the whole game...but the Chris section near the end has me worried because I won't have access to the overpowered inventory I have for Ethan.

I'm not looking to ruin the game for myself through frustration, so I'm just wondering...how much of a pain is that section of the game on VOS?

PS) I suck at Mercenaries mode so I suppose I'll never have the lightsaber. :lollipop_expressionless:

I am also pretty surprised by the somewhat lukewarm reception from the critics. Happy to see so many players love it. I think this might be my favorite RE game. I loved RE2make and really liked what they did with RE7, but this is a fantastic mix of the two with a bit of RE4 thrown in there. I think the setting is phenoemnal and I really wished we got a slightly bigger Village section. Maybe another one later in the story like a suburb lol.

As much as I liked Returnal, I am kinda baffled by it scoring higher. Village does pretty much everything better. Even when it comes to replay value. When I play the game, I am always making progress. Progress towards challenges, progress towards weapons, upgrades, story, etc.

I wonder if the game being so traditional hurt it. Everything from its 10 hour length to its focus on setpieces and bosses, and metroidvania design unbashedly embraces old school design. And I guess thats not good enough anymore. Again, I liked Returnal, but I really disliked how some rooms can just fuck you over or how it forces bad guns on you. Returnal's bosses were excellent, but there is something AAA about these bosses some of the best setpieces I've seen implemented in a boss fight. It's almost Naughty Dog like in quality.

I dont know. I am just glad that there is a 10 hour game out there with awe-inspiring setpieces, intricate level design that rewards players for learning it, and has a ton of replay value. We dont get that anymore.
This is not old school game design, in fact it's very modern and mainstream --ie : easy.

The levels are not intricate as unlike some previous RE games as there is only one way of progressing. You just have to follow a set path with slight deviations, like an Uncharted game. The idea of "learning" a level seems bizarre to me.
You don't ever find an object and wonder what it's used for, instead you have an object forced on you for finishing a segment then you get to use it later.
Your idea of progression seems to be tried to constant movement, the story pushing forward and having things to buy.
Mine would be when you had a choice in that progression. The game was so easy I felt I was playing a walking simulator at points so there didn't seem to be many barriers stopping me from progressing at all! I was just watching most of the time.

It reminds me a lot of Doom 3 and whilst I found RE8 fun, it lacks a whole lot of what makes the series special, mainly the exploration and puzzle elements.
I've been pushed through enough first person horror games "RUN just RUN" for this not to feel different. Just feels like Capcom watering things down for the VR market.

I was worried too. I honestly only had issue with the boss battle at the end. Since he can kill you in a few hits. Best advice is to try and save as many health stims for that battle. Don’t forget there are quite a few restock areas with the green smoke and to find as many as you can as you make your way through.

I finished it this morning on Standard. I found the end boss tricky cause I had no ammo, until I realised you could visit the Duke store before hand, doh!
I really enjoyed it more than RE7 I think.

Finished a play through and unfortunately have a bit of a love hate thing with the game. The castle stuff was cool but almost everything else was lacking a bit and not half as fleshed out.

Its probably just the old guy in me pining for that old 'mansion' style gameplay. But it just felt like it went from very promising to RE5 style minus the co-op after the castle. Dimitrescu shouldn't have been finished with so quickly. MM was lacklustre in comparison, it actually took me a minute to remember her name despite only beating the game yesterday.

Art direction was great. Pacing was way off imo. I'm hoping Capcom drop the 'mold' arc now.

I'm glad I played it tho. I would have wondered and wondered otherwise.

I dont think they will drop it, i think resident evil 7,8 and 9 will all be linked in a story arc and 9 will keep same camera view as 7&8, although im hoping for some dlc to be announced , hopefully more on dimitrescu and the daughters and beneviento as loved them bits and felt there where to short, it will be a crying shame if capcom leave village as it is with no dlc and just move onto 9

Finished it again on newgame+ hardcore difficulty and whilst it was fun, the amount of cash I had meant I was never low on ammo. I'm thinking it was a mistake to be able to craft ammo and buy it from the merchant. Crafting alone would be enough, and it's the searching for stuff to craft that makes a big part of the game.

Felt similar the first time too. I guess I'll avoid ng+ in the future.

For those who've played them all, should I try RE3 Remake, considering:

- RE Village and RE4 are by far my favorites. I love RE as action games, though I hate RE6. I like RE5 as well.

- RE2 Remake gameplay felt a bit dated to me. I think it's the emphasis on puzzles and horror/tension + too much backtracking in the beginning. I understand why people love it, but what I'm looking for right now is something more linear and a bit more action oriented like RE4.

In other words, I'm craving more RE Village/RE4 mix of action and horror, but watching videos of RE3 I'm not sure if it's more like RE2 or RE4.

I'd say go for it. RE3R is a little more action oriented than RE2R but not by much, and there isn't as many puzzles or backtracking. I myself enjoyed it more than RE2R even though it did feel a little rushed and lacking in content at times.

I disagree on a few things but don't read this as me wanting to start an argument, lol.

Mostly just curious on why you think it's not much of an RE game. I'll give my point of view first; as someone who still actively plays the PSX RE games and CVX on the PS2, RE7 & 8 feel very much like RE titles to me, at least in terms of gameplay. Puzzles, exploration, inventory management, etc. In Village the inventory management is kind of turned on it's head and rather than running out of space for storage, the management factor to me was in crafting supplies. Do you make such and such ammo, or do you hold off and wait? Do you make a healing item or use the materials for sniper ammo, etc?

In terms of story, RE has been completely absurd for 2 decades now so I don't get worked up over ret cons and stuff like that. For me it's purely about gameplay and to me, Village nailed what made Classic RE so memorable as well as included some of the best elements of RE4.

To each their own though, no worries on our views not aligning.
Although the series has varied wildly I would say that this title is much more in line with modern western games.
It doesn't help that with 4 mechanics were introduced that almost every game copies now.

What makes it less of a RE game, is mainly the lack of a puzzle element.
In the past the mansions in the games were puzzle boxes in themselves and you would often leave them having not explored every inch. That's impossible here as you are basically funneled through the experience.

It's the same with the gunplay, there's less of a puzzle element there too.
You don't ever really run out of ammo, the inventory box is huge so there's little item management and there's almost no "how do I handle this situation" involving which weapons to use.

The game has basically had any rough edges rounded off in favour of 'the experience' which is mostly running from one room to the next looking at all the great art direction.
RE4 did that too but in that game each area was substantially different, had more variety, and each area was often a small puzzle in it's self. Here the map is just basically populated with enemies and you shoot them as you go through -- Much more of an FPS mentality. Mopping up enemies to get cash with very little strategy.

That's not to say that RE can't do that, but I'd rather see a game that didn't lean so heavily on gameplay that has been done to death in other titles.
This is probably an exceptional VR title, but it seems pretty compromised for regular play.

I think the bosses in RE8 are embarrassingly bad. They’re a hot mess except for mother Miranda which is a-ok. You’re fighting them on unbelievably constrained spaces and can barely see a thing. Heisenberg was fine but so over the top and ridiculous - and easy - that even that one didn’t manage to elevate the previous bosses. And don’t get me started on “find the right doll to stab”.

I think the game is super lazy and uneventful. As a fan, to me, it’s shockingly bad.

Returnal comes from a far future compared to this.
I agree. If you play action / FPS titles, this comes across as very regressive. It's like playing Skyrim at points.

I really enjoyed RE3 remake although I think most were luke warm on it. It's v short which probably didn't help reception on release.

If you can get it for a decent price though definitely give it a go.

Naah it’s just more of an adult market and people have limited time.

So anyway this is the first mainline re title I’ve purchased since 5, I played about an hour of 7 on game pass, respect survival horror fans but they just bore me to death. This is more in line with what I want from a re game so far. Unlike most I never gamed as a child so I have no great nostalgia at all for early re games.
