In high school, my English Lit teacher told us that gay servicemen stationed in England during the war would put a cigarette over their ear as sort of a code to each other. And this is where the slur used in NA comes from, while in England it's what they call cigarettes.

I dunno if it's true, but it made an interesting story.

What does the star tattoo mean - usually on the wrist or hand? I see them a lot, usually on unwholesome looking individuals.

the nautical star? I see it a lot on porn stars, strippers, druggies, etc. It's supposed to protect travelers or something I guess?

lol at men online planning to get queen of spade temporary tats for their wives. I'm guessing so they can troll the clubs for some cuckold studs?

Yes I learned that mid session with a chick and was like wtf... Also me and my friends would say "let's call a spade a spade" until we figured out the origin of the phrase.

Actually the idiom has a long history (thousands of years, technically) and predates any racist connotations it might have in the US today:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_call_a_spade_a_spade

Originally from a 1st-century greek essay collection, it was mistranslated by Erasmus and the error carried over when Nicolas Udall translated it into english in 1542.

Never heard of the queen of spades thing but I could see that being a thing.

Also, I'm pretty sure the earring on the LEFT ear signifies homosexuality. I was told it originated from cops pulling people over and discriminating against them when they see the earring on the ear next to the window. Straight guys would wear it on the right side so cops wouldn't see it and treat them harshly.

Who knows, depending on what country you live in that might be true for the opposite ear (depends on what kind of car you drive).
It's the left for straight guys, right for gays. In the US anyway.

As a gay black man, I've seen the term... King of Spades is what a black male would be in relation to this particular idea. A jack of Spades, denotes a man, usually white that feels the black race is superior and is subservient to them... It's interesting given the abundance of porn (gay I know but not much about straight counterparts) with Nazi or race play. It's a fetish for most, a lifestyle for the truly devoted I hear.. Lol

a certain individual I am aware of has a "clockwork orange" tattooed into his forehead. I'm curious the story behind that

Only one I know is a tear on the face, supposedly means you killed someone.

Well actually....

Originally placed in prison to signify that the bearer was owned by a fellow prisoner. In prison terms "their bitch." The tear drop signifies that pain and humiliation one would feel after being "turned out" in prison. The tattoo is placed on the face to further humiliate the victim and mark them in a place where they could not cover the mark.

Confusion about it's meaning has come from the victim's having to explain the tattoo when they get out of prison and have to explain it to family and loved one's. They would often state that they got the tattoo because they killed a man in prison. This statement was not far from the truth since their submissive act of becoming another man's "bitch" could easily be viewed as the death of their manhood.

Problems arose when men on the outside began to get the tattoos and brag that it signified their killing someone or lost a loved one. Unwittingly they had marked themselves as a target for predators if they ever went to prison.

lolololol

Remember to always be 100% sure what something means before you permanently sketch it on your body.

No Fun Allowed Edit: I will say though that it's really sad that someone can force another human being into getting a tattoo like this. It's almost like branding cattle.
