Too masculine and anti what they are into now? They killed it because socom 4 didn't hit big. Problem is that was due to the psn hack happening the same day it was launched. Can't have a multiplayer game with no network. That wasn't the devs faught.
No, SOCOM 4 was bad. They got completely away from trim the SOCOM formula and felt like it was chasing COD. Confrontation was the last solid SOCOM.

Loved working on this game. Worked on all 3.
Awesome to hear.

Confrontation was a buggy piece of shit game.

They remaked Desert Glory and you couldn't even shoot out of the windows without issues. Or the exploding trucks when you hit the windshield. Or the reload issues when walking over debris.

Or in Frostfire you couldn't shoot through the nets.

Best example why the developers where complete clueless was when leaning and throwing grenades. In the Zipper Games the character leans and throws the grenades depending on the side which he leads on.

In Confrontation the character always throws grenades with the right hand. So when you lean left the character still throws the grenade with the right hand and most of the time the grenade hits the wall. For more example why Confrontation sucked I recommend the Socom Is Dead Videos from sukmyturban.

Someone here mentioned David Sears.

This guy told us he would listen to the Community and never abandon us again.

Well he and his team took my H-Hour money from the Kickstarter campaigne and never heard a single word from this guy again. I'm still waiting for a PS4 version of hour. Biggest scam I've ever experienced in Kickstarter.

So long story short.

Socom I/II 👍👍
Socom III/CA👍
Socom Confrontation 🤢
Socom 4 🤢🤮

If they ever want to release a new game they better Stick with the Socom I/II formular or better just a complete remake from the ground up including Socom I/II/III/CA maps.

Or make both sides happy. A PUBG like Socom BR game with all Socom I/II/III maps in one huge map and a Classic playlist with a normal map without looting and stuff.

Sony has abandoned its own established philosophy that made them what they were to begin with. They're more about chasing trends and current happenings now than imagination and thinking out of the box at the forefront. Heck, we even had the PS3 Warhawk game which trounces many modern multiplayers and yet some Sony "fans" are now clamoring for them to do GAAS instead. We truly didn't deserve how good we had it.

Seeing where modern Sony stands creatively is a sad sight as a Sony fan...

Gaas can be amazing, have you seen the new content in GT7? I think you're thinking all Gass is just like mobile games or something?

But a new Warhawk would be amazing!

No, this phenomenon is not exclusive to mobile games.

Wait till the servers get shut off. I'd like to see if you change your tune about GAAS once GT7 will become entirely inaccessible and (officially) unplayable. There's an inevitable point where they'll retire the servers.

I wouldn't be confident in Sony approaching a new Warhawk. Especially, since Dylan Jobe has left Sony a long, long time ago.

You have a valid point with that part about servers(if they don't patch it) but Dylan Jobes was just one guy and his team didn't do well after Warhawk.

You're right, can't argue against that. The entirety of a team and their chemistry is what brings a game together. I can't comment on post Warhawk since I still have yet to play StarHawk. Its in my backlog.

Still, though Jobe had a specific vision for Warhark. Warhawk PS3 is still held in high regard because its core gameplay was built around longevity. In comparison to modern big games, I'd claim there isn't a pursuit to create the same lasting appeal which is a concerning issue. I mean, heck, dedicated people can still access and play WarHawk PS3 on custom servers if they want to with little hassle. To this day it still holds up.

The community was pretty brutal though. The amount of times I would be the last alive in the squad only to be kicked out by team for who knows what reason.
I found that shit started with the ps3. Friends could gather much more easily boot people for zero reason other than make room for their friends. I generally found the ps2 group pretty good. M203's were a boot across the community. Glitching was a bootable offence. But I found the community forgiving towards those playing who were less than decent at the game. I loved the pre and post rooms. I loved the shit talk across teams. It should be allowed back. And teams should continue playing each other. People come and go. I really liked that.

It was my first foray into gaming online. It took gaming to new heights for me. SOCOM 2 wss a good and positive experience.

Socom 3 is actually when zipper started messing up. The maps were way too big and it was to accommodate the vehicles they introduced. They had small maps but lets be real it was an after thought where they used the same big map and cut a certain area off. The maps were made with 32 players in mind so the small maps didnt make sense due to this, I think only fault was good since it was one of the smaller maps even at 32 players. Socom CA was ok with better maps but similar issues and it really was just an expansion to Socom 3. Confrontation wasn't good but it almost was but it was too late when they addressed the issues the community had with the game. Socom 4 is an insult to the franchise, dont think we need to talk about that lol.

I completely agree with you and the large maps and vehicles sucked.

Worst thing was when you played one of those large maps is to find the remaining enemy. On the first and second game it was not an issue. But the third one I can't remember how many games ended with a tie. This shit was pissing me off constantly.

Also the smaller versions of the maps sucked from the layout perspective.

Regarding Socom 4 was a garbage third person COD clone. With Socom 3 they tried to collect Battlefield Fans. The attempt failed.🤷🏼‍♂️

For some reason, despite chasing the GaaS train, Playstation never thought to revisit SOCOM

They were done so dirty by the 2011 PSN hack, if anyone remembers, the last one came out a few days after the PSN was taken offline for about a month, SOCOM was DoA through no fault of its own, but they thought it was a total failure so canned the IP essentially

The vehicles made sense for convoy since you need them and have to be in certain areas so it didnt take long to find enemies. It would have worked if they kept it for certain modes and only few maps made for it and the rest of the game was smaller maps with no vehicles.

Socom 4 was a huge dissapointment regardless of the psn hack. They went far away from what made socom the game it was even more than socom 3 and the games that followed it.

You're right that was on PS3. They need to bring SOCOM back.

3 and Combined Assault were still really good, at least playing the smaller modes and the DLC maps. Loved whenever games were set up of Snipe-No-X on Devil's Road.

I did enjoy Convoy a lot though too.

And 3/CA did the whole "expansion turned into full game" thing right where MWIII fails, by letting owners of both games play together on the common maps.

Confrontation was okay.

I agree there are pieces of 3 and CA that weren’t terrible, but it was basically like 3 and CA were only good if you removed all the stuff they added with sequels and just made it SOCOM II with new maps. And the maps themselves were a huuuuuuge drop from the first two imho. They were only serviceable if you played the tiny versions of them.

Sniper battles were legit. Sniper Elite tries to replicate it today but just can’t.

Oh no, total agreement with the order you listed best to worst. Was just pointing out SOCOM 4 never even felt like a SOCOM title. Confrontation was buggy but they patched it and patched it and it AT LEAST felt and played like SOCOM.

SOCOM 4’s failures were not due to the PSN hack. It was a bad game.

3 and CA were way worse. But jumpsniping on S3 was a lot of fun.

I still game with a crew of guys who all met on Socom 2/3/CA. Miss those days. Clan matches and the community was amazing.

A terrorist shooter unfortunately is missing today gamers do everything in their power to keep socom’s legacy alive, I’ve played shooters for years and there’s nothing like socom.

I’d take any one of them. I really enjoyed confrontation.

One of my fav games ever.
Got the original that came with the headset/network adapter. My parents upgraded to cable internet luckily at the same time as the original.
Socom II owned me. Played nightly as a kid, part of a clan, and made alot of great connections back then. Fond memories and i would always go HAMMM on Desert Glory.
Nothing beats being the last man standing and successfully escorting hostages out.

I'd take confrontation. Anything but 4.
Whatever the easiest way to do it because as soon as they see the sales they'll commit to more SOCOM. We just need something released

I think the easiest thing for them to do is a simple remaster of SOCOM 2 and release it either for cheap, or as part of PS+. Just increase textures slightly and make it 4k60.

I don't have a PS5, but I would rush to the store to pick one up for this.

Evidently the SOCOM community is still decently sized.

I used the included mic to give commands to my AI squadmates. Great game back in the day. I bought it when it first came out. Never tried the multiplayer, but wore the mic every time I played it. Good gaming memory. Anyone know why Sony hates the franchise?
I'm constantly reminded that so many people on the forum are children.

Why Sony hates the franchise? They never hated the franchise. It performed really well initially and the studio who ran it wasn't able to keep the quality up with expectations as the years went on.

  • SOCOM - 82
  • SOCOM 2 - 87
  • SOCOM 3 - 82
  • SOCOM - Combined Assault - 72
  • SOCOM Confrontation - 67
  • SOCOM 4 - 67
In defense of Zipper Interactive, they didn't have the budgets to put out games that would compete with multiplatform titles like Call of Duty. You look at Halo compared to SOCOM or Killzone and while it was exclusive, they got massive budgets at Bungie. In order to do that, your games need to sell really well or be on multiple platforms. If Sony had a PC strategy back then, maybe SOCOM would be alive today, which is why it's crazy when people complain about series releasing on PC.

Sony has abandoned its own established philosophy that made them what they were to begin with. They're more about chasing trends and current happenings now than imagination and thinking out of the box at the forefront. Seems like people don't understand things and just come to their own conclusion. Sony largely let's their studios do what they want. Warhawk was made by Incognito. The studio went under and Eat Play Sleep and Lightbox Interactive were created in its wake.

Sony worked with Lightbox Interactive to do Starhawk. Starhawk also didn't perform well and that was the end of that relationship. The studio went under.

So when you say, hey someone should do another SOCOM or Warhawk/Starhawk, you have to ask the real question which is what studio wants to do it.

You look at the studios who have experience in the genre and they'd probably want to work on the games that gave them said experience i.e. Guerrilla working on Killzone and Insomniac working on Resistance or Disruptor.

As for studios without experience, that's a big risk to do something that isn't in your wheelhouse for a franchise you're not familiar with. Lack of success can cost jobs.
