Such independent studio…
Demon Souls sold 1.4 million copies.
Bernd Lauert is not here to comment on the sales.
Yeah, wtf they bought the wrong studiowait this isn't Blue Box Games Studio
Kinda aligns with https://www.pcgamer.com/phil-spencer-says-studio-acquisitions-are-good-for-the-videogame-industry/I know everyone here is sick of console warring, but these acquistions wouldn't have happened if MS didnt buy Bethesda. After spending an entire generation closing down 4 studios, and buying just one new studio in Insomniac, Sony has bought 4 studios (housemarque, Nixxes, Firesprite and BP) in a matter of months.
Competition is good. I'd argue that MS doesn't go out and acquire Playground Games, Ninja Theory and Obsidian if Sony first party wasnt so goddamn successful last gen. They were pretty much forced to respond, and I feel Sony was forced to act as well.
We don't need all the big companies buying up all the smaller studios, but there is no denying that healthy competition between two industry giants is good for the gaming industry as whole. Studios like BP, Housemarque, Ninja Theory and Obsidian struggle to get big money from third party devs and thats exactly where first party support is needed.
Keep the pressure up on your favorite company. Dont let them get complacent and good things will follow. Taking pot shots at their competition is fun, but criticism of your favorite company can be quite productive.
So encourage more acquisitions? I'm sorry, but no. Look, I'll acknowledge and pay respects for one when it's actually officiated and legit, but I'm not going to egg on more acquisitions in the supposed name of fostering competition.I know everyone here is sick of console warring, but these acquistions wouldn't have happened if MS didnt buy Bethesda. So, Hulst and Ryan still wants to talk that they are not in arms race and they prefer organic growth?
Because if answer is yes I just need to know to believe exact opposite of what they are talking in future...
But congratz to the team. I'm interested what they will do when not making remakes...
single console supply limited launch title, with a lesser known IP and difficult gameplay. Not exactly apples to apples. Seems good enough for a remake (cheap)Not trying to be an ass, I love Sony and Demon's Souls, not starting a war ...
But isn't 1.4 mil over a year a little low when games like MK11 sell like 2mil in the first week or something?
MK11 are on way more platforms, like 4 more platforms with a +200 million install base. Apples to oranges. Not trying to be an ass, I love Sony and Demon's Souls, not starting a war ...

I really don't want them doing original titles. I want them 100% focused on remakes of old games for a modern age. We have enough companies focused on new stuff. Reading that they are making somthing new is very disappointing news.
Japan Studio was renamed to Team Asobi after they separated its XDEV Japanese team to be now under XDEV, and after merging their internal Japan Studio teams into one of them (Team Asobi). Why?
Edit: Never mind I get it now, lol, Sony JP just sitting there by themselves in the corner with a whistle waiting.........
He's joking because the Sony JP twitter account accidentally leaked the Bluepoint acquisition while ago. Why?

They're good, even great, numbers if the game's budget was modest. Which for DS Remake, most likely was as most of the game was made for them by From over a decade ago. Remakes tend to cost more than remasters but they're still a lot more affordable in costs compared to completely brand-new AAA games. Not trying to be an ass, I love Sony and Demon's Souls, not starting a war ...

And Square decided to shift to UE. Yes I know that there is alot of custom stuff/modules that you can bring to UEAn exception to this seems to be FFVII Remake but that's because they've completely modernized the game engine
That’s a gif of what this means for fans of what bluepoint WAS doing right? Couldn’t be anything else.
I dont neccessarily disagree. I think fostering studios and then acquiring them like Sony did with housemarquee and BP, and MS with playground games and Obsidian is the best way to go about doing this. Sony buying SE or MS buying Zenimax is probably more monopolistic, but at the end of the day these kind of big acquisitions happen all the time in the industry. Watching Ford vs Ferrari, I found out that Ferrari was bought out by Fiat in the 60s. Ferrari. It is what is.So encourage more acquisitions? I'm sorry, but no. Look, I'll acknowledge and pay respects for one when it's actually officiated and legit, but I'm not going to egg on more acquisitions in the supposed name of fostering competition.
Because IMO you don't NEED to acquire studios to be competitive, it's just one of the methods available to platform holders and larger corporate entities. If the ways I like to encourage competition by proxy end un resulting in an acquisition, then hey, it is what it is. But I'm not gonna jump the gun and egg them on under the guise of wanting more competition.
Maybe he’s just a slobIn other news... isn't that the shirt Herman was wearing in a past PS5 showcase?!?! Was that filmed months and months ago

Why the hell has everything turned into a game of acquisitions now? Tiring mentality.
Curious to see who Microsoft ends up going for.
Demon's Souls remake is a launch game exclusive for a single console (so a console with a 0 units userbase before that game), in the middle of a global pandemic. It's also a remake of an old niche game nobody bought. Not trying to be an ass, I love Sony and Demon's Souls, not starting a war ...

Original content, very interesting.
don't see a reason why Kojima would feel like selling his company at his current age / statusKojima Productions next?
It was a full on remake of a game that came out years ago on older hardware in a niche genre (soulsborne) that while is popular in places like here, isn't exactly mainstream (i don't think, i may be wrong). Those are fantastic numbers, IMO
