Roughly a 20% price increase per item.

Add in the 33% PS sub plan price increase, and the new slim digital releasing later this year going up $50 (about a 12% increase) and Sony is on a roll. Got to prop up those gaming division profits current at about $2 billion back to $3 billion like during covid.

WTF, are they so brazen going all in razing japanese goodwill?

Yes i know about the Yen exchange rates, but considering how puny PS has been in Japan, talk about killing your console once and for all

Sony was the first to set the $70 game increase as a standard, so this is no surprise.
Next will be even shittier joycons jumping in price too.

It was bound to happen. Yen never really recovered and the post-pandemic reality came knocking on their doors. It's not getting easier for anyone to be honest, but I'm more curious to see how the Japanese will react to it since they aren't very accepting of this type of price increase.

The fact you are typing on this forum right now is proof that jackshit is happening to the middle class. Kek

It's happening slowly but surely and when it's there people will blame jackshit that no one has a live anymore. Cooperation will own us just like in cd project reds last game. We gamers gonna eat good for having it in real life.

PS5 sales are now tracking 24% ahead of PS3 sales in Japan on a time-aligned basis.

This is the currently the best year since 2003 for a PS home console.

Can’t Git Gud
Erasing the middle class and moving most of the population into the own nothing be happy zone.
So fkn true and sad state of affairs.
That's why I am against the pro because they will milk us dry with new pro, pro2, pro ultra.... if it catches on like smartphones.
And I will hold onto my physical discs as long as possible

Living in Japan right now is hard with this inflation and exchange rate issues going out of control. Sony is literally pricing people out of buying their products. Myself included. No way I’m paying close to ¥10000 on a controller right now. Hope my doesn’t break anytime soon.

No way it's that cheap.
At this point, I expect 1000$ luxurious device. Just like smartphones do it.
And we will buy it anyway
I could see PS6 upwards of 699. But I don't know, its going to be very hard to tell. Honestly, I am quite shocked these new versions are basically more expensive. Digital is now $449 and not $400. The barrier to entry has been risen if the PS5 Pro is next week then either its going going to be $599 or higher unless they will actually lower the prices on these instead.

So first, couldn't buy a ps5 for 2 years, next the price goes up, then controllers.

Hammering hard that Sony is no longer a Japanese company with these second class import country measures.

Nintendo ninjas infiltrated what remains of Sony japan.

The yen is ridiculously low since over a year, not just compared to USD but also to other currencies.
Even with these re-adjusted prices, most of these peripherals are cheaper than officially priced ones where I live.

At least Kaz told me to get another job for the PS3 upfront, these backloading increase suck. Doing it because they can get away with it. This generation has been interesting to say the least.

Remember when Slim consoles came with a price cut and an announcement of a line of discounted “Player Choice” titles?

Where the fuck did we turn left and end up like this?

Sony needs competition, they know they can do whatever the fuck they want now and people will gobble it up.

Their competition hasn't cut the prices of the console they released 6 years ago.
