Final Fantasy 6 remake for NX confirmed.

I wonder when we're going to see Final Fantasy 16 announced. When was the last time there *wasn't* a forthcoming announced numbered FF game? Right after FFX, maybe, or was FFXI already announced when FFX came out?

Anyhow, I'm curious to see what improvements FFXII: The Zodiac Age has beyond those already introduced with the IZJS release. I know screenshots have already shown us that more "big" spell animations will be able to go off simultaneously, which will actually alter the strategy of some of the tougher bosses in the game (since using a mage to lock them in a spell-charging state while whaling on them was formerly a viable strategy).

You can't sell me on the idea of the biggest lineup ever and not have Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy VII Remake, or NieR: Automata there.

Howeverrrr, the whole rumored August FF VII info reveal kinda ties into this. Maybe it'll happen....

They aren't announcing 16 anytime soon. Taking any amount of attention off FFXV Nd ffvii remake would be idiotic

Bad: not announcing FFXI updates - expected, but annoying
Good: nothing new on FFXI mobile, screw that attempt at replacing the game on an even worse format instead of updating the original's infrastructure

What rumor?

Such a fantastic turnaround for SE. I really feel like the purchase of Eidos has turned into a major positive for the company as a whole.

Hopefully once they get FFXV out the door we'll start to get a glimpse of what they've got planned beyond KHIII and VII:R. In particular, I'd like to see them revisit Ivalice, or maybe even do a spin-off single-player title in Eorzea, since that seems to be it's spiritual successor.

Also, aren't we due for an announcement of FFXIV 4.0 in the next couple of months? Maybe we'll see that touched on.

Might we get new game announcements?!

Gamescom is a pretty big PC gaming show, so if they have something more targeted toward that audience, it'd be an appropriate venue.

They make some amount of f2p games and FF14 has to have a new expansion eventually, so there are options on the table.

It's of course also Europe's primary gaming conference, so anything they feel is especially well targeted at Europeans also fits.

They have sneaking pieces on what will happen for the next expansion inside the game already but there isn't anything concrete yet. 3.4 should start the push to the new story that the expansion will focus on while 3.5 sets the stage proper for it.

They've mentioned that it will be revealed at Octobers fan fest. So still a few months away.

Yeah, I suppose following FFXV's release the multiple installments of FFVIIr are going to take up a lot of oxygen (and so will FFXV DLC, and so will KH3).

I think Square-Enix also wants to avoid the spectacle of announcing an FF game and then having it take 5+ years to come out, given that that was probably fairly embarrassing with FFXII, FFXIII, and certainly with FFXV.

Still, once the FFXV DLC rollout is finished, KH 2.8 is released, and FFXII:TZA is released, we'll see the FFVIIr and KH3 hype machines rev up into full gear and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we also saw an early FFXVI tease for 2018.

SE always have multiple FF titles announced to be forthcoming and the announcement of FFVIIR and World of FF before FFXV even had a release date kind of shows they're not planning to change that anytime soon. Besides FFVIIR is going to be at least three full games - there's no way they're waiting until those are all three are out or nearly out before revealing the next mainline title.

I'd think at the latest, we'll probably see FFXVI at e3 2017. It'd give XV some space, allow them to ramp up VIIR and also be a big announcement for the 30th anniversary.

Yeah, nice list of games but nothing as exciting as KH3, VIIr, & Nier for me.

Nice to see some more of XII remaster tho.

Thought the same thing lol. Let's hope so

What's the team that made XIII doing then?

The 'team' thing is something of a misunderstanding of how things work - a huge amount of the same people got moved over to work on FFXV assets. But the core writing and design team (Toriyama et al.) are probably working on something, yeah. Who knows when we'll actually see it, though.

I think they were supposed to work on X-3 but the reception to the novel and the audio drama was sour to say the least. SE was definitely planning something with X at some point heck they still might.

If we compare when they started making hints about FFX-3 to the purported start time of Mobius, along with some of the staff who would have been on said projects, I think the former turned into the latter.

It'd also explain why it was canned, since this was around the time Matsuda took over and they mostly stopped rebooting franchises on mobile instead of console, especially for the bigger ones.
