Star Citizen at gamescom 2015 - presentation livestream 8pm CEST Friday Aug 7

Or just don't get hyped at all. Take it all in stride. It happens when it happens.

Eh, it's fun getting a bit excited about stuff expected in the near term. Obviously going to far is never a good thing, but a bit of hype never killed anybody.

That said, a list due out in two months is both too small of a thing, and too far away for me to really look forward to in anticipation.

Didn't they already show off the multicrew different physics grid last Gamescom?

This video: https://youtu.be/qL1RXbZLHAI

And then afterwards he mentions it'll be playable in two weeks, so what're they demoing that's new?

That wasn't a fully functional localized physics grid, just something they threw together for the demo. They only just recently completed the General Instance Manager and the localized physics grid that everyone will be using, which is what we'll be seeing in the livestream.

A few other new things that are supposed to be coming:

  • Completed Cutlass rework
  • Completed Flyable Constellation rework
  • Flyable Retaliator
  • EVAing from one ship to another
  • Multicrew ship fighting
  • Maybe(?) an FPS demo and Planetside demo

Oh sure, I'm not arguing against looking forward to things. But I see all sorts of people getting too worked up over every little thing and get stuck in the peaks and troughs of the hype cycle.

Just go to the wreckage of the FFXV thread to see that in action.

A fair amount of the presentations have effectively been hack jobs to show their intent. The planetary landing for instance. I'm always a bit weary of getting too excited about what they show. I don't fully trust it until I see it running on my own computer. It's great to see them regardless of their real world viability, but expectations must be tempered by the reality that everything is subject to change.

That said, I'm really looking forward to them getting the multi-crew stuff working and the Constellation rework. Every time I start up the game I'm greeted by my Phoenix and I'm reminded of the fact that it's my least complete hanger ready ship. Still pretty though. ;)

Yeah, getting too caught up in hype isn't a good thing. Or rather, echo chambers in general aren't a good thing. Sooner or later reality will set in, and the effects can be rather... harsh.

Yup, pure hype threads tend to get closed for that reason now. Positive emotions are great, but it becomes a problem when people start dogpiling valid criticism with reaction GIFs and dismissive one-liners, shutting down potentially valuable discussion.
(hence my relatively neutral OP)

Tried to say that the story didn't sound very good in an MGSV thread. Replied to with "What-the-fuck-is-wrong-with-you.gif", o_O

Everything I've seen so far looks boring. Someone please tell me why you're hyped for this because for quite a while now I'm really trying to be hyped for this too.

If everything you've seen from Star Citizen bores you, there are two options.

  1. You haven't looked at much.
  2. Star Citizen isn't the type of game for you.

Why try?

Either you're interested or you're not. It isn't my place to tell you what your interests should be

That's fine, it's not a game for everyone. I personally have fun with Arena Commander, but I can understand why some people wouldn't. For the most part, our hype comes from the stated intentions of CIG and Chris Roberts, and we look forward to the potential of the game itself. The Livestream itself later today will be showing off something that a lot of people were looking forward to a lot, specifically Multi-crew ships. Many of the backers are most excited to be able to fly a spaceship with friends through a hand-crafted universe.

If that's something that appeals to you, I would take a look at the livestream later today. If after that you still find it boring, well, there are plenty of other games out there. I would still recommend to you to check it out once it releases in a year or 2.

The standalone Squadron 42 is a modern Wing Commander, which is exciting for fans of the series.

Great graphics, scaling up well for high end PC users (and planning ahead for future PCs with higher resolution textures than people can currently use).

Cool flight model and damage physics (video).

The Star Citizen MMO has a huge scope of potential activities. Try reading through the list of stretch goals, which were all reached and locked down $20 million ago.

Go play Wing Commander and Freelancer. If you're not hyped after that them nothing will help.

Between the end of last year and now, my hype for the game has calmed down quiet a bit. Which is a good thing, considering the game almost single handedly got me to buy a HOTAS and trackir, which I',m now using for Elite. Not to mention the pledges themselves.

Here's hoping we'll get a good impression of when we can expect a PU alpha. The idea of flying around, exploring the SC universe seemlessly on foot and in the cockpit of a Constellation is as fascinating, as it was before. ^^

Maybe it's you. FPS/story driven/Space Sim games may not be your cup of tea.

It's ok. You'll find what you're looking for elsewhere.

Hey, Destiny might fit your bill. It's got enjoyable gunplay.

Ehem, which one of those ships should you buy? Me and friends want to explore.

Or is it another ship I should buy? Kabouter recommended one to me... can't remember the name.

Carrack would be the main exploration one.

Just noticed on that liveblog that there's a fansite pre-show starting 1 hour before and running for one hour afterward. Added to OP.

The sale certainly went up earlier than I was expecting it to. Not that I mind.

Also note that there are cheaper ships for exploration. The Carrack is the most expensive one. So you don't need to buy any of them in this sale unless you want the biggest.

I don't think that counts as a M50 anymore. Even ignoring the shape change, the scale change is huge. The M50 is 11m to the Idris' 240m length. Assuming that ship isn't flying way higher and closer to the camera than the Idris, the proportions would be closer to the M50 escorting a Starfarer.
Or Retaliator.
Because I used the Retaliator for size instead of the Idris :lol

Well my specially modified M50 is a multi-crew vehicle!

What is the difference between the yt stream and the one on twitch? They both have separate countdowns. If the YT one is just repackaging twitch I won't bother with it.

Otherwise, YT probably will have better quality.

Somebody is screwing with the twitch stream and rewinding at times.
