*228 updates your roam list, I'm not sure if you can update your phone's operating system over the air. That may be a job for a store clerk.

You can't update your phone software using those codes, like xsarien said, you'll need to have a rep. do it for you. The only 'update' is the *228 one already mentioned -- which updates your prefered roaming list (PRL). You should update it every now and then, though, because it might save you charges whrn your phone is roaming in an area no longer considered a roaming zone.
