Virtua Fighter 5 REVO: World Stage

So I'm confused about this one. I already own PS4/PS5 version ultimate showdown. Can I access to 4k 60 fps with rollback on PS5 for free or do I have to buy the 10 dollars Revo upgrade?

Ok thanks for info

Is it good? I mean the netcode
It varies. Usually it feels like you are playing right next to someone but occasionally there is some teleporting and a hit interaction completely changes in front of your eyes like your opponent is using a reality stone. The input delay varies a bit too.

I paid the $10 and I'm really liking world stage mode.

Just chilling against AI while learning Goh.

Trying to get the fundamentals down before the new title I assume hits next year.

I have to say this game is a breath of fresh air for a fighting game. It's simple, deep, and just exudes passion. It's not what the genre is now…chaos.

I love this game.

Question boys :
I've been playing Judgement (Yakuza spin-off) on my PS5 Pro and VF5 world stage is available as a mini game , thing is, characters and backgrounds are fuzzy and low resolution (especially background textures), is VF5 REVO better in that regard ? Is the game engine the same ?

Thanks

Final Showdown version of Virtua Fighter 5 (worst revision two gens ago) is the stripped down mini-game. World Stage has a sharp resolution and higher fidelity textures alongside many balancing/mechanical improvements and content. Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (last gen) was rebuilt on Yakuza Engine and R.E.V.O./World Stage improved on it (current gen with rollback netcode) but the lighting is not exactly high tech. World Stage is the best version.

Very, very thourough explanation, appreciate it brother 💪

Fook me that looks nice, thanks Arsic !

Anyway, before posting I did try to watch some comparisons on YouTube earlier but, most of them were between the original VF5 and the newer REVO version. To be honest, I couldn't always tell which was which since I even came across some World Stage footage mixed in.
The last time I properly played VF5 was back on the Xbox 360 and I enjoyed it a lot.

Anyway, thanks a ton. I'm going to buy it ASAP, Cheers.

Report back after you play. Do the city with cars stage at night to get maximum stiffness.

World mode is a lot of fun and easy brain off good times until you get into higher ranks for it. Unlock items for characters to equip along the way.

The game in 4K in motion is a treat for the eyes sometimes looking better than tekken 8, although tekken beats it overall visually.

Mechanically I can't think of a current fighting game that feels approachable to jump into anytime I want other than VF5. Not including old retro games you have legacy skill in, but just current modern offerings. Too many require too much time investment just to play at a basic level.

Granted I'm a Goh main so it's easier to manage the complexity and just dive in compared to say Vanessa.

Finished a 40 min session :
Yep, this is VF5 alright...

Graphics are OK, much better than the Judgement mini game but...they do shown their age (animations/some textures etc).
Sound FX are still the usual VF "swoosh" and "CLANG" fare like you're hitting a G'damn Gundam (nothing has changed since VF2) and they're still low sample rate.

Anyway, that's the technical part and I'm ok with it.

What I'm not OK with is the training mode :
There's no way to understand the proper timing for some moves - even though there's a text explanation before you begin - couple that with the lack of visual demo explanation like, say, in the DOA games where if you don't "get" how to perform a move the game will show it to you by pressing a button.
That, and the fact that...these games NEED an arcade stick since there's many moves where you have to slide/piano your fingers from one button to the next which I find almost impossible to do by using the dualsense - tried the new (to me) white haired Karateka and I just nope'd after going midway through his movelist training.
Back in the day (X360 edition of the game) I used to main Jeffrey but I also used to have an arcade stick so things were easier.

It's a game for the already faithfull/established fanbase/that know what they're getting into since it's pretty barebones as modes go and the training could be better IMO, for the 14€ I spent I can't complain though, I'll just chill with the arcade SP mode for a couple of matches here and there

I am certain you can turn on input display for the more complex commands. As for the inputs I can play it relatively easily on controller with this mapping:

Square - P
Cross - K
Triangle - P+K (Heavy Punch)
Circle - K+G (Heavy Kick)
R1 - Block
R2 - P+G (Throw)
L1/L2 - P+K+G (Context Sensitive)

World Stage mode is the meat of the single player experience.

Training mode could need some explanation behind the fast inputs, like, how fast? Well Wolf Swing need to be one frame per input, so a VERY fast rolling motion which might be more feasible on a stick with a short throw.

VF5 REVO looks so good because it isn't destroyed by filters, haze and gimmicks. Its clean AF. The sound FX is my only issue here really.

If you are referring to the Giant Swing then it is a simple half-circle forward followed by the P+G (which can easily be mapped to a single button). The command throws in Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are more complex and less lenient.

Its another, the just frame version. It needs to be done extremely quickly. Trust me that one isn't easy. Its akin to Akiras Knee.

Been playing VF a while yesterday. I managed to do the Swing JF a few times randomly yesterday. I actually went for a QCF but the swing came out. I'm kind of certain because he yells at the end of the throw. You'll need to cut corners. Problem is my stick is buried atm, I am too lazy to get it and hook it up so have to do with pad for now.

I even beat Dural with Wolf. I got stomped but first round I managed to land a swing and ring out. Third round I was losing again, but she hopped over me at the edge lol. The beauty of VF is how fighting styles are depicted. Wolf's throws and holds are fire, without the game feeling like UFC or WWE. Jean's Karate idem. It does a better job with this than Tekken.

Played a bit online with Jean. Its kind of... dead. Eventually found a few Lei's. One only spammed PPP, which was easily sidestepped for free wins. Another was better and matches often went to the decider.

Its a shame but understandable. REVO should've been the release in 2021, and should've had crossplay. Adding this 3 or 4 years later, on top of the original revision being a PS3 launch title, wasn't going to cut it. You'll see these Capcom classics and SC2 HD dying about as fast. Also, VF5 US doesn't upgrade to REVO. Its a different app/purchase. So yeah.. I hope they get it right with VF6 from day one.

Yeah so this Ranked online is rather busted.

Out of 10 players you find on PS5, over half of them are trophy boosters who either idle or are in a turbo controller loop. My last 5 matches went like this. One straight idled, and another did a Kick loop with Vanessa. Which means you get free wins as DQ isn't an option. Which means these W/L ratios of everyone are likely busted. Some of those guys had a siginificant amount of wins, probably because they match idlers as well.

Then I looked up trophy info: 300 ranked matches with 2 characters. 200 room matches... yeah gg Sega.

Don't worry. I can't do a perfect EWGF in tekken consistently for the life of me trying.
That's weird as execution is pretty lenient compared to a lot of just frame moves...

That sucks. I have yet to run into anyone like that playing on PC.

P.S. I have started repackaging old mods into the game using new tools that have recently popped up so the Easy Anticheat is not as obnoxious anymore. I might make some more custom mods for the game now. Yay!

I don't trust PC gamers either. Some I matched up with were just... weird. Like, perfect input reading punishes but then constantly not following up or catching lows or escaping throws and not rushing in close to time out. Just weird.

But then I looked one name up, and hes an eSports SF6 player on PC so likely hes legit and probably has some timing down.

Switch 2 version is out!
Nearly unplayable using the stock buttons though. What's the consensus on the best replacement d-pad solution for portable mode? Surprised Hori hasn't made one yet.

ive had the switch 2 beta for a long time lol. I wonder if they lock that now?

its okay.. its VF5 🤷‍♂️

Congratulations to Nintendo Switch 2 owners who can finally play VF5 REVO World Stage for the first time. Welcome to the club! 👍

The recent update patch for version 1.10 of VF5 REVO World Stage coincided with its Switch 2 release. There were many minor gameplay changes made for every character in this update. And it wasn't only improvements to gameplay that were made for this game. Online connectivity issues seem to be addressed as well. I haven't played enough online matches after this update to make a comprehensive judgment on this topic yet. Anyway, I for one really like the appearance of an icon indicating if someone is playing on a wired connection.
