It is still pretty important information to be had.
If the offence rate of a pedophile is comparable to the offence rate a non-pedophile have for any other crime then I don't think pre-emptive castration of all pedophiles is in place.

If there is on the other hand a significant offence rate among pedophiles then pre-emptive castration might be the best solution.

Sounds like he was jailed for an obscenity charge not pedophilia. There is a big difference there as possession of actual child porn requires that you be registered as a sex offender unless I'm incorrect? I didn't see where it mentioned him needing to be registered.

Technically it is illegal on a community by community basis according to that act but does not carry the same weight as child porn.

Edit: I'd imagine somewhere alarm bells are screaming with all the searches I've done for "child porn" tonight.

Don't get me wrong, CP is wrong because it's support of a criminal act and being complicit in its execution. Real CP has some poor kid getting his/her life ruined, what's not proven is that its in any way a way to tell if someone will abuse if he/she hasn't already.

I don't think he was arguing that CP causes the abuser to abuse. People had been arguing that pedos need something to expend those urges on so that they don't go after a kid. If those statistics are even close to accurate, it's clear that pedophiles won't be satisfied with just the movies. They don't cause it but they also don't prevent it which is the main point.

That's the thing, I think that pedophilia might simply be a reoccurring misfire of the evolved tendency to value youthfulness in humans as it signifies high fertility.

The environment might also play into this and if that's the case then that's at least something we can root out and hopefully eliminate.
