Last night, on Showtime, they showed Candyman in its original aspect ratio. This isn't the first time it's happened, either. This is odd, because Candyman has always been shown in P&S beforehand.

On some of the other channels, at some times, the movies and shows are shown with letterboxing, and the rest of the time...not.

What the hell happened, why'd they start doing this? Anyone know?

maybe because of the new HDTV standards? More people are buying HDTV's than regular TV's right now, which actually surprises me, and they are gonna want their widescreen programming to go with their widescreen television.

Yeah, but on the other hand, 2.35:1 movies (Panavision, etc.), get cropped down to 1.78:1 (16:9). You just can't win.
