So I turn on my XBox tonight, and get the famed "dirty disc error". Concerning, but I've seen it before and turning the system on/off and ejecting the drive a few times fixed it.
Well.
After the fifth or sixth time, I turn the system on, and it sounds like a fucking freight train barrelling towards me. The drive is doing something crazy, clealy scratching the fuck out of my Halo 2 disc (noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!) while the unit actually vibrates. I'm thinking, this thing weighs 18lbs, what kind of force does it take to vibrate it? It's as if a tasmanian devil just got jammed in the gears and wants out.
Now the door won't even open - hitting the eject button promps the whole vibrating, angry animal scenario while the light blinks. That's it. I've tried prying open the DVD drive, but there's no catch on the inside that I can find to snag.
So, shit. Now what? I've gotta have my Halo 2, but at the same time the 360 comes out in fall and I was planing on retiring the Beast when it did; don't want to buy a system just for six months use. Ack!
